recovery screen wtf?

every time i try to reboot to the recovery screen (this is by using volume down + power, menu+power, and adb shell > reboot recovery) it simply shows a phone and a red attn triangle, and freezes. have to pull the battery from there. any suggestions? just for the record i rooted with z4.

Are you sure you have a recovery image flashed? You need to install ROM Manager and flash ClockworkMod Recovery.

If you do have ROM Manager already, have you tried rebooting into recovery from that? Also, I only use the hold volume down button and press power for two seconds to get into recovery when my handset is off method.

Awesome! I am glad that helped you out.

I have actually seen a few people run into that issue lately and surprisingly it turns out that they just forgot to flash a recovery. Cheers!

Okay back to rookie school for me...

I have always held the home key to boot into recovery and the volume down gives me bootloader (which I have never used).

You guys have something different than I?

Some Hero's are different, usually that is how for RA and CWM is our way, but lately seems to depend on Hero

They both work. The home button and power button combination takes you directly into recovery. The volume down and power button combination takes you into HBOOT where you can press the home button to get into recovery. It is just a matter of choice which you want to use really. I use the volume button and power button combination out of habit. It is always nice to know alternatives though.

If you go into this link and search for "home" you will see the button combinations work the same for both Amon RA Recovery and ClockworkMod Recovery: HTC Hero (CDMA): Full Update Guide - CyanogenMod Wiki .

I thought he said he could not get into recovery with the Home and end, some can't FYI, why we have not figured that one out

actually i couldn't get into recovery using any of those methods. but my fault lied in that i didn't even think of flashing the recovery image when it came to z4root. i thought the program did it for me. i know i did it when i originally rooted with my first hero. that was on the .6 software version where i could do the ruu back to .5 and manually root. i got this one on .7 and had to do the cheater's root.

oh btw i was trying to flash liquidsense a rom i recently discovered. flashed that, and the overclocked kernel. and was completely sold on it within the first five minutes of use.

That is weird. I always thought both combinations worked for all Sprint HTC Hero handsets using either recovery and, apparently, so does someone at CyanogenMod.

Genuser said he used the home button and power button combination. Oh well, as long you SOME method works to get into recovery. :D

I thought so also until I help 3 peeps that could not get into recovery at all other than through CWM app, or the Home end and home button, unless they were not doing it right, but I did walk them through it many times to no avail.

Yep, I hold home while powering up with the end button. Of course now with Asops Roms I use the reboot to recovery on the power down menu.

I swear this site always takes a crap everytime I come here on my iPad. Probably shouldn't be surprised. :-O

I also have always done it that way, but lately I simply tell everyone to hold the volume down and end and then home to recovery.

Just looking for ways to spice up your job? :-)

First time in bootloader I inadvertently did a reset of some kind. Horked my phone so I couldn't get calls. Nandroid couldn't fix it. Ended up reflashing radio and rom from scratch. It's one of those dark alleys I don't go down.

Yep same here thus the reason why I am careful when I try to explain someone to go into recovery, before they end up down the same patch, lol

Quick boot from the market also works ;)
