Regarding New System Update... 4/8/2014

So I got a notification today on my F6 regarding an update, it asked me to reboot so it could install, but I don't think it installed my phone rebooted as normal. Does anyone know if this is the KitKat update or has anyone successfully updated their phone today?

Hooking it up to my mobile tool it says there is a software upgrade for MS50010l
Its confusing as hell, my phone is still MS50010i..

This is on the website...

We are pleased to announce the software update to LGMS50012b is now available for the LG Optimus F6. This software update includes KnockON and various other software improvements.

If the current software on your device is version LGMS50010i using the GOTA (Over the air) update is recommended.

do not update!!! ... at least for a while
I did not update but read someone did it and cannot reroot.

I am doing the upgrade recovery method.. I will let you know how it all goes, I got like 84% to go on the actual Upgrade process... I fear nothing.. I can always use my MS50010i rom to reflash if it doesn't go as I like it.

It is not the KitKat Update, still at 4.1.2, my new software version is MS50012B though. Can not use Trevors Root method..

Eveyrthing short of root and my App2externalSD Mod is not swapping and my Link2SD scripts need to be recreated is still there.. Framaroot is a no go either.

IF you update to b12 and want ROOT do full recovery and it WILL go back to I as I just came from my metro store and they did it, as well as one guy who has the 3/3/14 f6 which stayed at I after update but he will NOT try to ROOT for testing purposes or any other reason (jackass). Thier nicew guys over there tho so no hard feeling towards them.

Knock on can KMA.... that thing is so sensitive it turns its own self on at times.. I barely bump the phone and it turns the screen on.. One feature I do not like... and will live without.. I see no other functionality in this update other than removing the ability to root..

I had the update notification as well yesterday, however after the reboot with the little android guy on the screen for a while, the version was the same. Suspect it's not updating due to the phone being rooted.

Am going to attempt using the LG Mobile Phone Tool Updater and see if I can do it again through a PC.

I attempted to check for updates using GOTA method but it says my system is up to date even though I still have MS50010i showing in software information screen.

Update: LG Mobile Phone utility installer progress bar stops about an 1/8 of the way through...probably caused by the firewall at my job but I'm not sure. I'll have to wait until I get home to run the app on my PC.

I did not get upgrade on my F6, so I connected to the PC and launched LG support tool. It had upgraded my phone to 12b. Knock feature works. I liked it on my LG2, I will love it on my F6.:D

No damit just tryed to install it while i had cwm recovery and now when i try to reboot my phone while im in cwm recovery it reboots back to cwm recovery please help!!

What I'm trying to figure out, is how to get rid of the message asking me to update.

My wife's S3 was easy. You just delete the partial file.

Any idea how to get it to stop asking me to update? It does it like every single time I turn on the screen to my phone!

I do not care about ever being able to update the Android OS, so don't worry about that.

Thanks for any help you can give me!!!

That worked, thank you! :-)

Ya know, the funny part is, that I already had this file and the method. But I got it in a Samsung Galaxy S3 thread on a forum and I ignorantly thought that it was created just for that exact make/model phone, so I didn't use it on this one.

DUUUHHH!!! <LOL!>

Oh and P.S. to anyone reading this, follow the instructions EXACTLY! In other words, you do NOT install the Apk! You MUST copy it to the /system/app folder!

Also, if your System area on your storage is not mounted as Read/Write, you won't be able to copy it to that folder! You need to be Rooted of course and have a file manager that can write to a System partition/whatever it is.

Root Explorer will do it (look for the little "Mount System as R/W" at the top.

I use "File Manager Pro" (they have a free version), by RthmSoft, which I absolutely love! Just make sure to go into Setting and enable the Root access and the "Mount System as Read/Write" options at the bottom in the Settings. That may be a Pro Only option though, I cannot remember.

Anyway, if you do not do these things (and delete any partially downloaded folder out of the /Cache folder), then it will not work for you! All that's covered in the other thread that the above link takes you to also.

But I can verify that it just worked for me on my LG Optimus F6 phone and thanks for providing it! :)

So, I was finally able to put the apk in /system/app and rebooted, but the notification still comes up. I assume I have to delete the OTA download, but I have no idea where it is. Could someone please tell me? Thanks!

It is a long file in /cache.

No, there's nothing there for me, even though the notification said it was already downloaded. Oh well, I think the notification has stopped now. I got it once, cleared it, and haven't got it again.

Confirmed. It is right off the root, in the /cache folder.

You can delete any file you see there, really.

Then make sure the FOTA file is where it's supposed to be and reboot.

Sometimes it will still notify you again. If it does, just double check the /cache folder and delete what's there again (if anything) and reboot again and it should go away. :-)

Well I updated it, it's not the KitKat upgrade, it was about 37 MB of space, I lost root access, non of my root apps (super su, titanium backup, Cerberus) work properly anymore. But I did notice that now we have the Knock on gesture on the display menu. Have you guys try it? In my phone doesn't work that well.

And can I root my phone again without getting stuck on boot loader or something similar??

ok listen up.i know the update might seem scary but there is an easy method assuming you didnt already update

on 10i root your f6,then go to google play and download and install ota rootkeeper.make sure you get superuser to accept it and everything and then click protect root in the program.you should have a check in every box in that app.ok good.now youll see temp unroot (make backup) click that and let it do its thing and unroot you,and then click on the update in the notification and let it do its thing.when you are back on now updated rerun ota rootkeeper and youll see restore root, click it and then once it finishes close it.now i advise you to go to your superuser app and run it.itll say it needs to download binaries.click to continue,it fails the first time, dont worry, run superuser again and press continue.it will say installation sucessful the 2nd time.congrats your rooted and still have the update easy peasy ;P
