Root Regarding the 2.3.6 Update & MetroPCS (Solved)

Since I have Data working, I'm going to Factory Default and restart the phone.
I'll re-do the Market and MMS steps since I still seem to have some troubles.
It appears as if I can receive MMS, but not send; and I cannot download anything from the Market. I'll keep the thread posted how my phone's status is.

If the Samsung boot image is taking to long to boot than you have a boot loop (this happens if the boot check is missing something, in our case deleting Mms.apk without deleting Mms.odex)

To solve your problem you have to re-flash your phone again with the 2.3.6 update and make sure to delete both files for the MMS.

to re-flash the phone turn off the phone, plug in the USB and keep holding the camera button, when the Odin Recovery Mode comes up press "Volume Up" and run the 2.3.6 Update.

Thanks for the clear explanation, and suggestion. In this case it did not fix the problem, I'm still in a boot loop. Youtube, turned up someone on a Cricket version of R720 with the same problem after a bad rooting. Hard Reset Samsung Vitality SCH-R720 - YouTube

did you get to Odin recovery, it should pop up before the booting process.

I get a message like

Click on Volume up physical button on your phone, and run the 2.3.6 update from your PC. If you don't have it I placed the link below.

Thanks again, the reinstall did not work. But I think I found a solution written by shinyside in another post.

Hard reset.
1) down volume key
2) back key
3) power key
all together till samsung logo comes up

Then I choose

Wipe data/ factory reset

Got it.

I had the same problem once where the program couldn't flash the phone and that was because the PC was not able to detect the phone, a simple restart for my PC and the phone solved the problem and the program was able to flash the phone.

In your case, the phone does not work after the flashing is complete Or the program can't flash the phone in the first place

..........

OK ... it's great to see that the phone is working ( I did not see the last sentence)

good luck

ok, had the data and market working.. Was messing with the mms. and think I forgot to do something before restarting and it kept looping and wouldn't start. So I re flashed.. Re rooted and now es explorer wont give root access. I click the option in settings. it says it's been granted super user permission. and then says test failed. can't run on your system/.. uhhh just when I was getting somewhere..
edit: trying factory rest... Then will re root and try again...

Edit 2: just received my first picture message since doing the upgrade.. data and market are both working.. been 3 minutes and the picture I'm trying to send still says sending... :-/

When the MMS is sending a picture it should send it on the spot 3 minute is way to long.

the system file content attached in the MMS fix post (etc folder & build.prop) did you replace them over the original 2.3.6.

also the Mms.apk attached in the MMS fix post contains the samsung admire profile attached to it did you copy it to the phone.

and final did you reset the APN setting to default (after copying the system folder content)

after restarting the phone you should be able to send images (it should take few second to send them)

Deleted the 2 mms files from system/app Then copied mms.apk to system/app and then etc folder and build.prop to /system .. ran apn reset defaults and restarted.. Have done it twice now.. Just did it again after re downloading mms.zip again just to make sure it wasn't updated since I last downloaded. Still unable to send images...

OK
1- so we have the Mms.pak with Samsung Admire Profile in it :: Check

2- default apn files are copied:

3- Data connection is active.

4- Apn Reset was apply.

let's try doing the apn reset after restarting the phone (so copying files and making sure they have been copied - restart phone than reset apn)

also if you have another MMS application try removing them (if there is).

and see how it goes

Is it safe to update to this or is it better to be on 2.3.4? I'm bored without a custom ROM.

When you update you will get

1- Phone Service
2- Text Messaging
3- Faster OS than the 2.3.4 with many fixes

HOWEVER

For MMS and Data Service and Android Market you have to apply the previous fixes for them to work

some of us go them all working and the others are trying them.

So, if MMS & Data Service is a Crucial thing that you must have than I advice you to wait till every thing is 100% accurate.

I'm kinda having trouble now, hope you guys can help me out.
Okay, so my data connection works I can surf the web. However I still can not sent or receive picture message. When I download it says, MMS transaction failed. http 401 error. I also can not access the market without 'market enabler', it pop out this error a server error has occured:mad::mad:

Im still a lil confused. Does the 2.3.6 update effect your Admire whether it was rooted or not?

Thanks for all your help! Apparently waiting to restart the phone before resetting apn settings was the way to go! I now have a fully functional phone with 2.3.6 Thanks to you!!
now is there any way you can do something about the 3g coverage in my area? haha

If only Clark;

No, 3G is part of your wireless service, so if you're running any of the PRLs 3021 - 3026; it's all on Metro now.

I know, I was joking.. Wanted to see how good GTK was at working miracles..

edit: So can I uninstall file explorer, super user, Titanium backup, and Market enabler now that everything is working and I've uninstalled everything I can?

I just want to thank you all, I fixed my device and now have 3G and MMS. You guys are better than Metro and Samsung's support.

The instructions are getting market, and mms working are spread out over several pages of this thread, with some detours built in. If someone could repackage the instructions....

The market enabler alters APN setting to force android market to communicate with the device ... and ... MMS alters the APN setting also (there fore it goes between this & that). I trying now to see if there is another way to enable the market without market enabler programs this way we could have MMS and Android Market working at the same time instead of one at a time.
