Release date: 6/24 nationwide; 6/21 for SP members.

Glad this got pushed back to 6/24. I'll let all of you get it and see what kinds of problems arise if any and then purchase mine a month later. Things better be in stock!

I might do the same. I love my EVO but I got it at launch, and it still has several problems associated with launch-day devices, such as the buttons bleeding, ghost touches, recessed power button, and whatnot.

Hopefully the 3D launch will be smoother and have less reports of hardware issues.

If you want it just get it. Will there be issues of some sort? Of course there will but that will be the case with any product you purchase. Nothing has a 0% rate of failure, I don't care how long you wait for whatever issues to be worked out. Thats why you have a warranty so just in case something isn't right you can simply just exchange it for another one.

Sorry if this is off topic a bit, but what is the difference with the $150 upgrade w/ 2 year contract vs getting the Evo 3D for $199 for eligible customers?

Is the $150 credit just if I want to purchase any other phone, sprint will knock off $150? But for the Evo 3D, they will charge you $199, which is a $200+ discount from the msrp.

Is that correct?

Is that correct?

Typically, the way it works is this:
- suppose a phone costs $500
- if you're eligible for only the $75 discount with a 2 year contract renewal, you'll get the phone for $425
- if you're eligible for the full upgrade $150 discount, you also get some other discounts to bring the phone down to the advertised $200 price

For example, if the phone's $500 and they're advertising it for $200 for new customers or full-upgrade-eligible existing customers, you'll get $150 from the renewal and another $150 in other discounts (often some combination of instant and mail-in rebates). In other words, if you're eligible for the $150 discount, you're actually eligible for a lot more, but that extra amount may depend on the phone.

The EVO 3D isn't special -- they usually have the fully-discounted price for new high-end phones around $200, and off-contract MSRP is $500 or more.

Usually every phone has an instant discount and a 2 yr discount price.

Some phones have a higher instant discount than others. For more expensive phones, the instant discount can (and will most likely be) higher.

So if you want to upgrade to any other phone, you get $150 off for sure. Plus any instant discounts they are offering on that phone. Some phones you may get for free. Some for $50.

Over on the SP forums on the actual Sprint.com website this was just posted by a moderator."Premier Customers Can Buy The Evo 3D on June 21st
I will post the link at 8 AM Central time on 6/21. I'm not sure what the quantity is that is set aside for the Premier presale, but we've been reassured that this device shouldn't have the inventory issues that the Evo had".

Lets see how fast we will all bring down the Sprint website at that time.

Thanks RedWingsFan.

So just to clarify, if I purchase the EVO 3D for $199, I'm basically getting more than $150 discount since the MSRP for the Evo 3D is like $400-600, right?

That is correct. You are getting the following:
MSRP for Evo3d $549.99 (not confirmed but good guess based on final price for upgrade and new) - $150.00 Upgrade/New Customer discount = $399.00
$399.00 - $200.00 in instant savings = $199.99 (final price for New Customers and Eligible Upgrades).

Some third Parties will be giving additional discounts like Wirefly and probably Amazon.

I am not sure if this has been posted so I apologize if it has been mentioned already.

I was thinking of buying an Evo 4G now in order to get the $125 credit for porting my number over. Once I did this I was going to trade my Evo 4G in within the 30 days in order to get the 3vo.

I called Sprint today and asked if I could do this and the representative said I could. I almost started service that day but I wanted to come on here to check with you guys. I also wanted to share this just in case anyone else was thinking of doing something similar.

Do you think this is a good idea or do you see me somehow getting screwed and losing the port-over credit when I trade in my Evo 4G for the 3vo?

It's a gamble. If E3Ds are in short supply, you're stuck with the E4G and have to buy the E3D at full retail ($550). But if there are plenty of E3Ds, you save $125. Risk vs reward, my friend. Risk vs reward.

Personally, I'm just going to shell out the $200 and not do the port over stuff. Unless, of course, they extend it at the last minute. However, if I were to take this gamble, I would get the Nexus S 4g. If you're going to get stuck with a phone, might as well make it a new one.

I don't think it's as big a risk as you think. Check out this post by SRH12 in another thread:

You will not lose your credit.

I picked up the E3D on Friday of last week at the local Sprint store in my home town. I explicitly told them I was doing it to get the port in credit and then trade in the EVO 4G when the E3D was released. I put my name on their pre-order list, no money down, and will get the 4th device. I stopped in again on Saturday or Sunday, I forget which, to add my corp discount to the plan . The owner manager was there and I spoke with him for a bit. I reiterated exactly what I was planning and he said it was a good idea because the credit was set to expire the 23rd.

You will not lose the port in credit and you will have the E3D as long as you are high enough on the pre-order list to get one of those shipped to the store in that 30 day window. I recommend putting your name on the pre-order list if you are truly interested in this phone.

I also called the Sprint line on Monday and confirmed with a rep that my credit and work discount went through. They said yes. I have the emails stating them as confirmed from the previous days, but I wanted a rep confirmation as well.

As long as you are not discontinuing service, you will get the credit. It does take two billing cycles, but you will get it. Go into a store and ask the questions :) I think you will be happy you did. I sure am. The service is already better than I ever had through T-Mobile in my area.

Oh, and don't forget to check out the network coverage for your area on the Sprint website. I did and it shows 3G over the entire area and I get a 3G signal anywhere in my house and my garage. 4G has yet to arrive, but thats no biggie to me.

Heh, please don't bring down the website :( It may not come back up by the 24th and I want my E3D on launch day :)

Sprint told me yesterday in store and when I called customer care that they don't waive activation anymore. He said it cost them to do something to your new phone and that it couldn't be waived. And I just got off the phone with Sprint again and was told the same thing. That they recently just changed there policy. I am not a 100% sure about when ordering online. I used to always get free activation cause I got discount through my work and then they stopped but I always got customer care to waive it and now they said they can't. But he did tell me when I go and return my EVO for the 3D and pay the restocking fee since I am using my upgrade I won't have to pay 18 bucks again for the 3D since I just paid it so that's good.

Premier customers do not pay an activation fee...

Just out of curiosity, if my dad (the owner of the family plan) is a Sprint Premier customer, and I have a 2-year upgrade that I've been waiting to use for 8 months, am I eligible to use the Sprint Premier status to get the purchase the EVO 3D on June 21st, instead of waiting the extra 3 days? If not, no big deal. I just thought I'd try to get it early so as to avoid the crowds on the 24th.

Good question! I am the primary account holder and a Premier customer with multiple lines; however, the line I am upgrading is not the main number, if that makes any sense (I'm stealing the one from my parents--sorry, I still love you ;) ). I was planning on just doing it to see, but if anyone "in the know" could tell us, that would be great!

For anyone (including myself) wondering when the phone would arrive if ordered online on the 21st this was addressed in the Sprint Premier Forum. The response provided by one of Sprint Premier Administrators:

Hi, this is Deb from Premier Team. So here's what I've found regarding ordering/shipping/receipt of devices when ordered online:
- We always use Overnight Shipping for devices purchased online.
- In general, devices purchased before 4 p.m. EASTERN meet the deadline for shipping same night for next day receipt.
- There is a risk that if the volume of orders is exceedingly high for the day, the order may not process that same day. Once it does process, the device ships overnight.
I, personally, have not heard of any order processing delays happening with any of our previous online Premier First to Buys. However, if online demand exceeds daily order processing capacity, I wanted to make sure you were aware of the potential delay.
The good news is that no one else besides Premier can order online until after the phone is launched to the public. I wish I could guarantee all orders will be processed same day, but I don't know what to expect regarding demand.
I hope this helps.
Thanks,
deb

They may say they use overnight but I have always gotten 2-5 business day shipping and it always comes in 2 business days. I have been premier since they started the program and I have never gotten overnight shipping nor have I been given the option. Perhaps they added overnight shipping to the Premier First orders after they did this new Gold Silver thing. I hope they did.

I have always been pleasantly surprised by receiving my phones by mail the next day, the last of which were our Optimuses this past December.

I usually get my phones the next day cause of the warehouse being here in Kentucky but I hate to go and change everything since I already preordered mine and his at the Sprint Store and am guaranteed them on Friday so I can wait.

Yeah I think it depends on where you live. I am down in New Orleans and it is always 2 days for us. I know they ship fast though.

I think the SP customers will get them atleast by the 23rd if they go out on the 21st.

Like they have stated on the SP community website, there is a good chance if you order by 4pm EST on the 21st, it will come overnight. My phones ALWAYS come overnight from Sprint. The only way it wouldn't would be:

1. You ordered after 4pm EST on the 21st, or
2. They have an issue with supply so they wait another day to ship it.
