Release date ? (BBY Xoom page active as of 2/20)

That's a good question. I personally would love to see them sell out across the country. I'd like to think there is high demand for the Xoom. But honestly, I don't know. The (apparent) high price and lack of features at launch might set it back. I for one am sick of the "it's too expensive" mantra. Yes, it's expensive. Yes, that means this tablet is not for everyone. It's the first honeycomb tablet on the market. It will get absolutely CRUSHED by lower cost tablets going forward, I'm sure. At least sales wise. But, I'm hopeful that it'll be successful.

Hope you're right, I want it to be a major success. Either way I'll be there before they open on the 24th

Look at it this way. Regardless of whether or not the Xoom succeeds, Honeycomb tablets are likely to be a big success. It's the first truly tablet oriented OS to be released. Once people see what it can do, and once apps are written specifically for it, you're going to see some amazing things. Will it all take place exclusively on the Xoom? No. But, I think the Xoom is going to be the demonstration model of choice for a few months at least. And it'll do everything I need a tablet for so I'll be quite happy to have one.

I think I was the only person who had pre-ordered at my local BB.

Let me toss this out there and get feedback: My OG Zune is dead. I am miffed that they want me to set up an additional line (new credit check is unnecessary in my book as an existing customer) for the xoom. Can I apply the xoom to my phone line (full retail price, month to month) instead of opening a new line (using current phone number) and then when Tbolt comes out cancel, replace the device with tbolt? 1) Is this even possible? 2) Would I lose my new every 2 discount on the Tbolt?

I'm under the impression you won't be applying for a "new line" with Verizon, they'll just tack a data plan onto your bill, $20/1gig, $35/3gig similar to a new line. You'll keep your current phone number and upgrade eligibility for it...

This means that
1. You can cancel that data plan at any point in time, assuming you don't contract the Xoom.
2. If you're eligible for upgrade on your current line, then it will remain unchanged.
3. When the Thunderbolt comes out, assuming #2 above, you can use your new every two to get the Thunderbolt at the subsidized pricing.
4. You will not receive another New Every Two once you do #3 above since they have canceled the program, you can still redeem the New Every Two for the next year or so but it doesn't renew.
5. Once you get the Thunderbolt, as I said you can do #1 and cancel your Xoom data plan if you want...since it can be canceled on a whim.
6. I said, this Xoom won't be billed to your phone line since phones get..
1. A phone number, and likewise voice service. The Xoom does not.
2. Smartphones with Verizon get the $30/mo unlimited data plan, which tablets can't get unless you tether your phone to your tablet over WiFi or through PAN on bluetooth, then your tablet would just run off your phones data which is unlimited
7. Even if you did opt to contract the Xoom, it still wouldn't affect your phone line unless Verizon allows the option to transfer upgrade eligibility from phone to tablet, I know you can do this from phone to phone... I have no clue if this can be done from phone to tablet though. But I think you mentioned you aren't going to contract your Xoom..so this doesn't matter.
8. Whether you buy a Xoom or a phone it won't touch you upgrade eligibility or New Every Two UNLESS you want it to, you can always buy a phone from Verizon at full retail and never contract it, you could go out today buy a Droidx at full retail, a Xoom at full retail (tomorrow lol), an iPhone, a Droid Incredible and put them all on your plan (assuming you have enough lines available on it, my plan only allows for 5 lines and they're all in use) and not contract any of them, then buy the Droid Thunderbolt whenever it comes out on the 24th/28th/ March 2cd or whenever and still use your New Every Two on it :D
9. If you're worried about it being used, just stress to them that DO NOT want your New Every Two and upgrade eligibility affected what so ever.
10. Even if the Xoom somehow made your New Every Two vanish you could call Verizon and threaten them until they gave you $100 credit in some what shape or form. They want you as a customer ;)

Thanks for answering!

The reason I assumed it would be a new line is because I asked a VZ rep via chat last night if getting the Xoom would require a credit check and a new line or if ti would be added to existing account. They said new line and credit check. Tried to order a Samsung Galaxy tab to see how it would work (never intending to complete order) and there is no option online to just add a tablet. It also required you to select a phone number option. I might call customer service today to see what they say.

So has everyone who pre-ordered gotten a phone call from BB yet? I've yet to get a call to say when I can pick it up tomorrow. Kind of frustrating considering they specifically said they'd call and set up a time for it. I really want to pick it up before I go to work in the morning.

The guys I talked to were clueless. they never mentioned a pick-up time. I am starting have serious questions about getting this. I really don't want to get it, have to set up a new account, only to cancel as soon as thunderbolt is launched. I am frustrated beyond belief.

The lack of info from these guys is truly wonderful. I really hope they decide to call like they said. Otherwise I'm going to have to head down there when they open. And that's REALLY not convenient tomorrow as I have meetings at work. They said that if they got enough pre-orders they'd open the store early for it, but, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that's probably not happening. UGH.

It seemed to me that I might have been the only pre-order as of Monday night (in the middle of our biggest snowstorm of the year.) I had to inform them I could pre-order it.

Great. I was the second one 30 minutes after they opened. (Man I stood in line longer than I thought. I just looked at my receipt and it shows the time on it). So I have no idea what my store's plans are at this point or how many people pre-ordered. I guess we'll find out tomorrow.

I got a call this morning, but after a few calls they still haven't been able to answer if they will be offering it a $599 on the 2 year contract. My appointment isn't until tomorrow evening, so I may just stop by a verizon store on the way to work and pick one up.

I have not got a call yet either, I went there today to pick up the folio case and I spoke the BBMobile Manager, he didn't know what the schedule was yet for pick ups for preorders, he said they didn't have any information yet. I told him I simply could not revolve my whole day around waiting for them to call, he understood. He said he was going to call some other stores and see what they were doing. He took down my name and number and said I would be the frist to know when he knew more.....

How in the hell can they not have a clue about how the pre-orders are going to work at this point in time???? I have a very bad feeling about this. I will tell you this much...if I'm not able to get my Xoom tomorrow I'm going to be extremely upset. My b-day was last Saturday and I've waited long enough. This is to be my b-day present. My wife gave me half the money to put towards it. At this point, if I don't hear from them tonight, I'll probably stop at the VZW store on my way into work and see if they have any. That's how annoyed I am.

Plenty irritated, too. Probably going straight to VZ and will get a refund on my gift card.

I'll use the gift card to buy the dock, but, if I don't hear from them by the time they close tonight, I'm heading to VZW in the morning. And then will head to BB later and get the dock if I manage to get a Xoom at all. I just don't get how this can be so complicated for them. Here's a pre-order, call the person and let them know when it'll be available. Call next person on the list. Repeat until list of people on the pre-order list is complete. And by now they must know how many they're getting so they should know if all the pre-orders will be met or not. This isn't rocket science. BB has done big launches in the past without much issue and I don't really see this as being a big launch.

I was not going to preorder but the Best Buy in my part of town only had 5 with 2 people on sign up list. So I decided to take the plunge and pre-order so no hassles tomorrow. Kind of crazy to pre order day before but I know for sure will get one. I live in a major city surprised they only had 5.

That right there is what I'm worried about. Everyone talks about how this is overpriced, and how it's not going to sell out day 1, etc. But if major stores are only getting 5 in, um, it doesn't have to be a huge success for us to not be able to find them. This isn't like when I got my PS2 and stood in line for 4 hours with 100 people, but, if the numbers of units per store are this small, then that's not so good. UGH. I wonder if the VZW stores will be getting more of them.

Manager at my Verizon store said it wasn't coming for another month on Sunday, I told him otherwise.

Called on Tuesday, he said I needed to call him in the morning if I wanted one since they would be very limited... I told him I would be there before they opened. If they did reservations behind my back....I swear to god I won't walk out of that store without promise of an uncontracted Xoom at $599 when they get them back in stock...

That isn't making me feel any better! :D sigh. I really hope to not be disappointed tomorrow. I've really been looking forward to getting a Xoom for a few months now and the fact that we're so close would really be a let down if it were delayed any longer. I'm going on a mini-vacation in a few weeks and was hoping to bring just the Xoom and my camera rather than lugging the netbook with me. If I don't manage to get one tomorrow even though I've pre-ordered it, who knows how long it'll take them to get more in stock. Argh! I wish they'd just simply call already.

I don't imagine there will be a line outside at 9am lol.. but I could be wrong. I might actually call my best buy tonight too and see if they have any that aren't reserved yet.

There won't be a line. It's not like they're getting 50+ per store and people are clamoring to buy them. If they only get 5 or less per store, it wouldn't take much of a "line" to sell out pretty quickly.
