Release Date?

Perhaps so.

I am wondering how much they are banking on people buying the accessories.

Part of why I'm kinda losing interest in this phone is because, even if everything works out with it just fine..

its really a bit much just for a phone..

If your going to use it for the docking, gaming and what not.. great. If not.. then I think your right.

The HTC and Samsung phone do have a market..

Not everyone is interested in specs alone.. and outside of people who just want the best hardware.. or to use the device for docking..

The phone itself is really a bit overkill for those of us just looking for a good phone.

Like I said, the traditional consumer will base their purchase off of the looks of the phone or how well it will fit in their pocket to even how nice a case is for this phone compared to that phone.

Yep.. I am a pretty big techy and even I am kinda thinking the atrix is overkill.

If I were in the market for a laptop on the other hand.....

What you guys fail to realize is just because a phone has been announced does not mean every t is crossed and i dotted re the launch plan. The carrier itself may not have a firm launch date at this time. CES is the time to whet the appetite and obviously it did that. AT&T hinted at a first quarter release so that is probably all we should rely on for now.

They said before Q1, not hinted. Yes, CES is a time where product rollouts for the year are announced but that is what the remaining nine Android phones and eight tablets are for. They probably have an idea for when they want it released by but they are looking at it from a marketing perspective. They are looking at what the competition releases and does and will now work on making an advertising campaign to really sell the phones that they announced. Most likely, the Atrix's release will coincide with a new, large 4G advertising campaign which will start soon or, my bet, at least by the super bowl.

Except it cannot do anything. I can't do web design, code, photoshop on it. It is a netbook and almost not even that.

Yes that is true but most laptop owners for personal use don't do any of that either. They use their laptops as portable social networking and internet access. That's why tablets are so big now. So the laptop accessory is perfect for the majority which these phones and accessories are designed for

Believe it or not, I agree with you that we should have well defined standards for what is a computer and it is pretty close to your definition.

Sadly just because, you and I have standards doesn't mean anyone else in the world does.

Also.. I doubt it can handle photo shop.. however, I don't see why (assuming someone spent time and energy making IDE's) you wouldn't be able to code on it :/

While your right about it being more of a netbook.. thats really about all joe blow expects out of a computer.

My parents and friends have no problem saying something like that is a full on computer sadly.. they all make up more of the population than you and I.

And there lies the reality. That the average Joe will live the laptop add on. Me if I purchase it i will be using it for web browsing when at work etc. Not for full out computing. That's why I have a mac

Exactly my point--They have an idea of launch but there are still a lot of variables to work with.

The evidence points to before the month is out. One moto stated in the coming weeks meaning less than two months. Two Bell Canada announced it would get this phone as well. At the bottom of said announcement the disclaimer stated that att would be releasing said phone in January. They know they just didn't want to say yet

Well, you can't run any intensive simulation for my projects so that would be why I cannot code on it.

unfortunately the majority has more say in what "is" or or "is not" than we do.

Well if course why wouldn't they. They are the majority. The most users the most money the biggest piece of the pie. That's the way it works. You don't cater to the minority you wouldn't make it as a bussiness

I have been looking but have yet found it. Does someone know when the fiscal quarters are for Motorola? If their Q1 2011 ends before AT&T, we might end up getting this phone quicker than expected.

Considering that the iPhone may be announced for Verizon on the 11th of this month, I think that at least the Atrix and the Inspire will probably be available sooner rather than later.

I agree I will say that the atrix is gonna be huge for AT&T maybe even bigger than iPhone for Verizon

I wouldn't say it is bigger but it is big. AT&T needs to get this phone on the market real soon. Verizon getting the iPhone is the reason why AT&T announced 12 phones and 8 tablets at CES. We must remember, though, that if Verizon announces it, it most likely won't be available for another month. It must clear all the FCC tests. I do not recall, has the Atrix (maybe under the name Olympus) cleared the FCC yet?

i actually upgraded in july and i can already have a 2 year upgrade.

Well, some how AT&T messed up the family plan I am on and put the voice plan on a different line instead of mine. Therefore, I am not eligible for an upgrade until February 20th (about 18 months since the last upgrade). I do have an average $250 bill with autopay so that should provide leverage to bump it up.

Yes I saw it weeks back on Howard forums when we thought it was the Olympus
