Root Remap Search Softkey to Camera

I TAKE NO CREDIT FOR THIS LITTLE HACK, THIS WAS DONE FOLLOWING THE INSTRUCTIONS FROM THIS SITE.
ALL CREDIT GOES TO Decad3nce for making this as easy as 1,2,3.

THIS SHOULD WORK ON ANY 2.2 ROM. I DON'T KNOW ABOUT 2.1.

***INSTRUCTIONS***

1) Download the file HERE
2) put the "incrediblec-keypad.kl" file you just downloaded into the TOOLS folder of your Android-SDK folder.
3) run this:

Code: 
adb remount
adb push incrediblec-keypad.kl /system/usr/keylayout
4) Reboot your phone, and then long press the search key to check it out!

Thanks man! I never use that search key, not once between my Eris and my Incredible. I remember having this hack for the Eris, and thought some of us Incredible users might enjoy this.

There is ways to set it up to other applications and what not I think.
 
Long press on search currently brings up 3 different things i could select, would this just add a 4th or would it actually just open the camera without asking me what I want to do?

I think you are getting this mixed up with the home key...
search is furthest to the right.

Nope, I am thinking of the search button...

If I long press it asks me if I want to bring up spell check/handcent quick compose/voice search.

I am wondering if the camera function would then just be added to that list or if it would just go straight into the camera.

I can't answer your question, because I'm still trying to figure out what your talking about. How did you get this, is it something you added, what ROM are you on.

whats spell check?

before I added this, mine used to bring up voice search and that was it. so I'm not too sure why yours is doing that.
 
Well, It's a good idea.. not working for me however.
I pushed the file over without any issues, rebooted, long pressed the search button and it opens the camcorder, not the camera.

I'm on skyraider 2.5.2. I dont need the camcorder hard button, camera would be nice... applied the undo zip file, all is back to normal.
 
it opens both which ever you are using last. so if you re-apply it again, if it opens camcorder again just pull the thingy down and click camera and all is well.

When you install handcent it offers a shortcut to the search button long press for text quick compose.
