Root Remove bloatware

I am a bit lost, how is everyone removing these apps? Is it via another app from the market or via their CPU DOS commands similar to how the phone was rooted ?

you can either go in from the adb shell and change to /system/apps folder and them run the rm (file name) command to delete it

or run a file manager app like astro and go to the /system/apps folder to delete it.

On another note, would someone be able to host a copy of the preinstalled .apk files?

I was messing around in astro, then suddenly the phone rebooted, when it came back up, majority of the pre-installed apps were all gone! include backup assistant! So if someone can put it up somewhere that would be greatly appreciated! :)

yes sixiam, that's the worst app. it screwed up all my contacts and deleted some and added some which i haven't had in my contacts for years. so i wanted to delete that asap.

I'll be sending you a pm soon...

edit:
EVERYONE: Hold your horses...

I'm getting the file, instructions, and creating a new topic....

I haven't ran DOS commands in so long. One day into tinkering with my ex, I may be an expert by the weekend! :)

Thanks!

Thanks!

These are unix commands :) Get into Unix very powerful stuff

You start to understand what these commands mean when you write them out

For some reason, even after following all instructions..I still can't remove the damn apps..I must not have achieved root.. (even though I have that damn ninja icon).

I was running my rooted x all day , try to shut off the phone for a reboot , and now it stuck on the droid "eye" on boot up. i did use titanium backup to remove a few programs, i left restorebackup assistant on , i removed 3g wifi and a few other programs , i was able to run restore via power button and home keys. booted into safe mode entered info, then power off , same issue... any suggestions

Just found out the answer to my previous problem with removing the Blockbuster app and wanted to share it in case anyone else had the same problem

1. Remove Blockbuster.apk from /system/app
2. Also remove com.motorola.Blockbuster.apk from/data/app

Hope this helps anyone who has the same problem!

DO NOT REMOVE BACKUPASSISTANTCLIENT

If you remove it and ever have to do a factory reset, your phone will die :(

Put it back on if you took it off!

As per Birdman's tweet:

mrweeeedbirdman
DO NOT REMOVE BACKUPASSISTANTCLIENT if you do, get it back on there NOW! a factory reset will result in a near brick.

Thank you Fabolous. :)

I REMOVED BACKUPASSISTANCE!!! I did not backup before I removed!!!! (Moron) Does anybody have the apk file they could upload or send to my email address...PLEASE ANYBODY!!!!

What would I have to do a factory data reset for anyways...

so can we get a full list of .apks we can delete??
i think this would really help everyone who wants to get rid of the crap

Does anyone know if it's OK to remove the VoiceCommands.apk, I'm so sick of it popping up while I'm listening to music or to RadioTime.

So with Titanium Backup.... once you do the backup it saves the TAR files off to the default save dir. If for some reason you need to restore I presume you can just extract the TAR again...... or are we lacking the restore ability?
