Help Removing Extraneous Apps...

Is there a way to remove stock apps that I do not use? Like the Email, Android Keyboard, Camcorder, Messaging, and Browser apps?

Can it be done through Droid Explorer?

are you rooted?
if you are, run a nandroid backup
stay in recovery and connect to pc
open droid explorer
browse to system/app and you should see stuff there you can right click and delete

i do not know what affect deleting some of these apps will have therefore do so at your own risk
the reason you should do it in recovery is so that none of the apps get put in use as it will make droid explorer crash.

Is there a way to do this if your not rooted? I downloaded Handcent and want to delete the "factory" messaging.

Make sure you do a back up as I tried something like this a while back and had troubles with other apps not working,I am not sure but perhaps certain apps are linked between themselves a bit like dll's in the old days of windows 98. I am not specialist so may be it was just me doing a bad job :o

If You delete gTalk app You might have problems with google account sign in on phone and market!

I know nothing about Android architecture, but it seems to me that native messaging app is vital for messaging to work, as it acts as a system service. Anyone knowledgeable can back this opinion?

we're discussing messaging app, not gtalk...

I will ensure to backup everything... unfortunately my laptop is in for service still and I haven't had time to fix my desktop, so I can't try this yet. Good to know about messaging though... I currently have just turned off notifications, auto-check, and hidden it from the launcher, and everything works fine. I suggest that you do that if you're using handcent now.
