Root Removing Root

Lurker
I recently bought a phone that was rooted secondhand, and I would like to totally remove the root- it seems like it is possible, but not very common. Does anyone have a guide or something? I am new to android, and I do not know which root he had on (but I can ask if it's something I need to know)- the phone is now set to stock 2.2 and reset, but will not upgrade to 2.3 the normal way. I am not really interested in keeping the root on either unless it is the only way. Thanks!

You can flash a ROM that has the GB update already included but if this is not an option for you, you can find instructions on how to unroot in the ROOTING For Dummies sticky.

and if you really want to unroot we can do that for you. but like frenchy mentioned read the http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/194918-rooting-dummies.html guide first. there is a section in after rooting that explains on how to unroot. if you have any qiestions please feel free to ask.

Welcome to the forums! As a suggestion, I would not yet unroot your phone. We can get you flashed with the latest update. I would suggest reading up on what you can do with a rooted android phone before making your decision. The problem right now is that if you unroot and then accept the latest OTA it will update you bootloader and possibly prevent you from ever gaining root access on it. As of right now, the newest bootloader is locked and not rootable. If you flash the latest rooted stock rom and the latest radios, you will not know that the phone is rooted under normal usage other than the Superuser app in the app drawer. There are so many things you can do with a rooted phone the least of which is get rid of the sprint bloatware that takes up memory and using wifi tethering for free rather than paying $30 a month to sprint for the same thing. It is your phone and your choice, just suggesting you understand a little about what you have before you take that step to unroot.
