Removing trash?

Hey there and welcome to the forums!

Once your in your Gmail app, go into the labels tab (where it shows inbox, outbox, trash etc). Tap on the trash label, once there you have 2 options. You can either tap the check box beside each mail and choose delete or swipe the mail to the right to delete as well.

Hope this helps :)

Adding to DragonSlayer95's information, from Google:
"messages that have been in Trash more than 30 days will be automatically deleted"

Also, iirc, items in the trash do not count toward your space allotment.

To elaborate even further, :)

As noted, what you throw in the trash is going to still hang around for 30 days.

If you want to delete it forever, right now, you have to log in to your gmail account, either from a browser on your phone, or on a pc, and go to Trash.

There you will have the option to delete it immediately.
