Root Removing VM Startup Screen and Sound

Hey guys,

I posted this in a different place, mistakenly so. I was kindly pointed over to this Category, and hoping someone could help me :) Here is what I posted elsewhere:

"I have rooted the phone, and removed a handful of the VM Bloatware. But thats as far as I have been brave enough to go. I would like to get rid of that annoying VM Loader Screen whenever I resent my bloody phone. 'Virgin Mobile! 'ding'" is incredibly annoying and starting to do my head in. Any suggestions on how to get rid of that, or if its possible without doing that Flashing, Romming, or other such things? Like I said, not very brave here, dont have 150$ to replace it if Murphy's Law takes effect. Thanks for the help in advance. Love the forums btw, great info"

Appreciate the help and advice in advance everyone, its really great :)

Hey, The boot animation and startup sound are located in the /system/media/ file as bootanimation.zip and android_audio.mp3. deleting those would rid you of the annoying virgin mobile screen. if you google android boot animation there are numerous and if you place another sound file approx 30 seconds long in the same folder and rename it to android_audio.mp3 that will play instead.

Hope that helps!;)

Smashing, ill take a look right. One more question, will any File Explorer due to view those files and folder? Or ill I need a specific one?

Ok I installed Astro File Manager. I notice by that sound file, -r I cannot do anything to that file. How do I change the permissions of it so I can place my own into that folder?

i use the file manager under super manager gives you superuser permission of it and can change to r/w on entrance

Mine is in /system/sounds/poweron/PowerOn.mp3

Same here. I have yet to have found where the boot screen images are located but a lot of people have been saying that the boot screen is locked in somehow by Virgin Mobile; so it's going to be harder than usual to remove it. If I find out how before someone else does; I'll post it here on how to do it and such.

Searched and found this thread. I have Astro and is says -r- so do I need root permissions to overwrite that PowerOn.mp3 file? Do I need to root the phone before I can make changes to system files?
