Root repackage apks on computer?

novemberwhiskey

Android Enthusiast
So I am trying to theme my own apps now, and i am doing so by copying the apk to my laptop (mac) and editing the files from there. I open the apks with stuffit file expander (basically just unzips them), change the files I want....

and there is the problem. How do I repackage the now unzipped folder back into an apk? I tried just re-zipping them, and then changing the file name from .zip to .apk; but that didn't work (when i moved it back to the DX, it would not read it).

Any help?

novemberwhiskey,

When you say it wouldn't read it, you mean the app would not install?

I'm guessing that since you changed the contents of the .apk--which is a signed .zip file--the signatures will no longer match. You'd have to re-sign the .apk somehow...
