Help Replace desire hd volume key???

Can I root, do a full back up.... Restore with ruu and send it back to htc / orange....???

Well, to advise you on that would be to allow a perception of condoning a sort of anti-carrier/user agreement ("Terms of Service") scheme. ;)

So we can't go into a discussion on that course of action you mention in particular.

Please understand.

Because it's dishonest and fraudulent, and prohibited by the Site Rules.

You choices appear clear; either own up to the accident and (hopefully) allow the owner to have it repaired under warranty, or risk voiding the warranty with a bodge repair and leaving the unsuspecting owner with a bigger problem than a mere broken volume rocker. It's up to you, but I know which I'd prefer were it my handset.

Not sure on how long this would take - you would have to bear in mind that, as it is not your phone, you would not be able to get this sorted - your friend would, as it is them that have taken the contract out!

lost the void stickers completely ... broke the volume completely too... ill have to accept the consequences compelety tooo.
just to let you know , to replace the volume key all you do is feed both ends through with th ehelp of a pen ( no need to open and ruin you rphone ) :)

In the first week of owning my desire hd the rocker fell out and got lost, carrier said damage not warranty issue.

Brought dummy phone off ebay for $5 as no parts were available (12months ago) spent an hour with a file an made a new one - as dummy phone parts are not the same.
Glued it in and its been going strong since.

Bit different to the op's question but could be helpful for someone in the future.

Would love to post a helping image, but can't because I've not posted anything, what's the limit for that?

Once you have posted once, you are good to go with posting links/images, etc.

This is an old problem though (from last year) and has since been solved :)

I broke mine so I used this company, ordered online and had it in two days.

It was a doodle to fit without taking the phone apart, just take you time and put it in the right way up....

--Snip-- (no links allowed for first post, but just had to say thanks!)

Seconded. I pulled mine out to clean out some gunk behind it/around it, and in the process pulled a bit of the rubber backing away. Put it back in and it was always loose, eventually falling away and gone forever.

So, you can remove/reinsert it without taking the phone apart, but you do need to be very careful and not force anything, otherwise you'll just end up right back where you started!

Also - thanks for the link Raistlin, I've been looking for somewhere to buy a replacement rocker, hard things to find, and the on-screen volume widget was getting a bit annoyint!

My phone went off to HTC today for another issue, but my volume rocker is also damaged with a small hairline crack. When I mentioned this on the phone before it was sent off I got the usual blurb about it not being covered. They did mention that they would repair it for

heheh

Just read this thread again , and all I can think is what a noob I once was...

yeah , the rocker just slots in after you push the little black thin in .

Dear forum members,

I broke the volume rocker of my DHD as well. The thing is, I don't quite understand how I can replace this button w/o taking the phone apart completely! The descriptions on this thread are too cryptic for me to understand :P (no offense)

Can anyone explain me a bit more in detail what steps I need to take in order to replace my volume button?

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

If it's just the silver bar you need to replace, it's quite simple.

Buy it. And then slot it in.

One end should be flexible. Put the other end in first and bend the flexible bit and guide it into the hole.

I had my volume rocker ripped out of its position via wear n' tear and still had my volume rocker. i noticed one end had a piece of rubber that has been mentioned here before but to me it looks like it was attached to the phone before it ripped...therefore when i tried to place my volume rocker back in-it never stayed in place and continually fell out. if i bought a new rocker via the internet how do i know it wont do the same and just fall out...does it not need to be attached to some part inside the phone to stay in place?

No. All the rocker does is push the contacts on the mechanism to close a circuit.

I can't guarantee, but buying and fitting a replacement should work.
