Help Replacement screen help

We replaced the glass only on our galaxy. Now the swipe feature will not work.
The pic and icons look excellent, just can't swipe to use anything.

Does ANY touch input work? The Glass is also the capacitive layer that translates all the touch input into movement on the screen. If it is not working properly, perhaps it (the cables) wasn't connected properly.

Do we need to remove the glass again to see cables? If I open the back there are no cables visible. And no swiping or pressing icons will work.
Thanks

Now you're confusing me. So not the glass? Now its the screen? The screen underneath the glass?

Sorry. No it was just the glass itself. However it was not like in the first video, it was exactly like the second video. Just the glass itself.
My son dropped his phone. The top right corner was busted up, however he could still use the phone, although the breaks were getting worse. We then got the broken glass/frame off (just like video 2) and then put the new glass on. Powered up and everything looks great, can see who is calling, can see when texts pop up, just can't do anything because the swipe doesn't work.
(I hope that helps)

Ok gotcha.

So when you buy a full replacement unit, you're buying 3 parts:

- The AMOLED Screen (what shows you stuff)
- The Digitizer (a clear, capacitive layer ontop of the AMOLED screen that digitizes your input)
- The Glass (The protective layer)

So the job that you did shouldn't affect the first 2 parts or any of the cabling associated with this (which is mounted behind the AMOLED panel) So I doubt that it is a connection issue there...

...However that digitizer can be damaged because all it is really is a plastic (clear) layer with a small voltage running through it that produces an electrostatic field, which sits directly ontop of the AMOLED screen panel.

How these work is, your finger (Which conducts electricity) disrupts this field, plotting that disruption on a grid and sending a signal to the phone to "map" that plot on a grid to a location visible on the screen. If this capacitive layer is damaged, that would stop any touch input working.

If you can't think of anything that jumps out at you as a possible cause of the damage, it may be simpler just to get a professional to look at it. A service centre or something because unless it had been cabling, you're kind of looking at something invisible and hard to troubleshoot without the right equipment.

Isnt there supposed to be some kind of conductive "seal" between the outer glass and the digitizer beneath?

There's the liquid optically-clear adhesive (LOCA) but its purpose is to stick and be transparent. It is not a conductive layer. The capacitive layer can pick up your input without it.

Watch the second video I posted.

Ah thanks man. Will do.
So is that layer of adhesive just for strength? EDIT(i should watch the vid before askin stupid questions lol sorry)
Id rather just replace the unit as a whole if i could afford it

So, my screen cracked, and I replaced it by melting the glue and taking out the screen.I did it fine, but the touch screen isn't responsive now! The digitizer appears to be completely dead, no matter what I do. I used a mouse to turn on the developer item that tests for touch responses on the phone and it doesn't detect the slightest bit of touching. The digitizer has no damage aside from a tiny pinhole dent on the far side. Is there some kind of ribbon that connects that may have been cut or something? Just how does it detect pressure in the first place? Please help as soon as possible. Thank you.

Theres a similar thread mate but dont think it has a solution :( ill try n find it...

It doesnt detect "pressure" by the way. It detects electrical conductance

There's a tiny pinhole dent/ in the layer under the glass (digitizer, I assume), and three little scratches. Could this really be the problem for it's complete unresponsiveness? I actually used the second video above to replace the glass in the first place, back when the touchscreen was working. I took the glass off, so I can make any changes if need be right now.

The threads were merged as I was typing this. If I unnecessarily repeated anything from earlier,I'm sorry.

I duno how the digitizer physicly works mate. maybe something as simple as a dent or scratch could kill it... at least the actual display panel is ok, id guess thats the expensive bit.
Is the digitizer layer bonded onto the display or what? (Actualy im gona watch those vids so i know what im talkin about lol)

Does anyone have a clear idea of how the digitizer works and of what can mess it up?

I'm pretty desperate to fix this now by the way.

Man that looks too messy for me lol. I only watched the second vid. Has anyone mailed the guys that made the first vid? Maybe theyl have some advice about the digitizer..

Quick question, just to be sure, should the digitizer work without the glass on it, if anyone knows?

Id hazzard a guess at YES mate. Even with glass on, it detects a finger not even touching the glass. Just try not to smudge the digi'
