Replacement X will it be a refurb???

My X is being replaced because of a faulty speaker. Get this crap, Aug 23rd. LOL And I just got the damn phone yesterday. And I had to argue with tech support to push my 30 day window out until I received the 2nd "new" device.

I don't believe that's completely accurate. Some of the Droid Incredible people who received theirs at launch were supposedly getting refurbs within the 30 days.

That happened to a handful of people, me being one of them. It was a "big" mistake supposedly. Ha, vzw, always trying to pull the wool down over our faces.

August 23rd??? damn are you sure man? Even the VZW website says August 3rd..

but yeah i was wondering about getting the 30 day extended if needed be due to no stock. I asked the lady at the store where i bought mine at yesterday and she said she would have to ask her manager but i got the feeling that it wouldn't be hard for me to get the 30 day extended.

I just received a replacement Droid X. It came in the refurb brown box with no battery or cover. I called to complain and the rep told me that unless my first phone was DOA, they're now providing refurbs - within the first 30 days. Sounds like some folks are getting new replacements, and considering I just dropped "new" money 2 weeks ago for a "new" phone, I'm calling back tonight to talk to a supervisor.

Out of curiosity, is there any way to confirm if this is a refurb - within the phone somewhere? With my EVO, I could just dial #something and it would tell me. I can't imagine they have refurbs for the DX yet, but the rep seemed to think it was definitely a refurb.

just reading that pissed me off...i have a replacement due at my house tomorrow and i was told it would be a brand new one from the CSR i spoke with. Let us know how your phone call goes.

Bought a phone on the 15th but it had a screen issue. So i ordered a brand new one. That one came in and the power button didn't work. So i called and they sent me a new one and i just it today and its a certified return phone... wtf i haven't even used the new phone yet and hey send me a refurb....

I just talked to another rep. She called the store where I purchased my original unit because she said this would need to be disputed through the store. After putting me on hold, she said that the store confirmed that this was the only way to handle replacements right now, due to the backorder. They can't even send me to another store because no stores have them. They have to "warranty them out" through the refurb program. However, the store told her that, as we've all kinda guessed, there likely aren't any refurbs in inventory yet. She said that, even though it came brown-boxed, that it's probably a new phone. She couldn't confirm this though. Honestly, that's not what I wanted to hear, but oh well. I probably just got a returned preview unit. :( Doesn't seem like there's anything else I can do, but threaten to cancel service and I don't have the energy to play that game right now. I'll just see if the replacement phone works.

I don't blame you for not wanting to pay that game. Hopefully it will work. I was told though that within the 30 days you got a new one.

That's traditionally how it's supposed to work - when there is stock. It seems that this is their only solution for corporate store retail customers right now. There is no backorder replacement system for retail. I bet those that originally purchased online or over the phone are getting confirmed new units though. I'm assuming they can just be placed back in that order system again.

For the others who just reported receiving brown boxes - can you confirm if you originally purchased over the phone/online or in a store? I think this is why some people are reporting that they have to wait until the 27th or 3rd for replacements to ship and mine was shipped right away that same day last week.

All device replacements within 30 days should be new devices. If you are not receiving new devices, then call and complain!

There is a delay with the devices, but you should have no trouble getting the device within the allotted time frame (by Aug 4th as of this writing). If you're being told something else, then someone is not being truthful.

Don't let people give you bad information.

That is a good point. But it doesn't make since for the retail x stores to not have a back order system. I got my og one in the store and I was og told my replacement wouldn't ship til the 3rd but now it will be here tomorrow.

I purchased my original in the store. When I went for the replacement, the store then told me they were ordering a new replacement through a warehouse that has units that were set aside to handle replacement issues. The phone shipped out via Fedex 2-day from a warehouse in Fort Worth, TX - per the tracking. I was actually surprised to get a brown box.

Where is yours shipping from? Can you report back tomorrow to confirm if it was a brown-box?

Mine was shipped from memphis. When I went in the store the csr gave me a number to call saying she couldn't even order me one. So the number I called was a tech number and that's when I got mine ordered.

Doh! Yeah, my in-store rep just processed it through his computer. Sounds like you're getting a new one.

after reading these last few posts i'll believe it when i see it.

normally i wouldn't care if it was a refurb. But like you i JUST paid cash for this brand new phone 5 days before i needed a replacement so i would rather it be a brand new one.

I ordered my replacement for the speaker buzz issue on the 23rd. I was told it would go out on the 26th (today) overnight delivery, and it would be a brand new phone because I was within my 30 days and it was an obvious malfunction. Probably that and because it is so new.

I called today to get my tracking number and no dice. It won't go out until the beginning of August. Total bummer. It pretty much puts a halt to customization since I'll have to redo everything. Not to mention how friggin' annoying it is to actually TALK on the PHONE!

Here's to early shipments!

I just bugged VZW again about this. This time, the rep took a look a the ESN history and confirmed that this phone has never been used before. I'm feeling better. And so far, the phone is working ok.

So your replacement came in a brown box then? Called and they confirmed that it was never used before. If that's the case I hope I have the same luck. This is already my third droid x.
