Replacing stock browser on Optimus V

The most popular ones seem to be Opera and Dolphin. Since our phone isn't the most powerful out there, wondering if I should try Opera Mini vs Opera Mobile? Dolphin has lots of bells and whistles, but does it feel like overkill when you use it? Any other browsers I should look at?

Thanks!

dolphin works wonders for me on this device, as opposed to the intercept where it slowed shit down. opera mini is cool, as i use it quite a bit on my acsend.

but its all really a matter of preference. download a few and see which one you like the best

Yeah, I know... I can tell so far that I much prefer "Dolphin Mini" to the stock browser. Maybe I'll find the time to try another one next weekend.

(How much time do new Android users spend looking at various apps and testing them? What a time sink!)

Its really not that time consuming. I get most of my phone usage on the throne or at work. Whilst on the throne. So you download muliples of the same function at once, try em out for 5-10 minutes, make a choice. Pretty simple process. I have a rather small number of apps (20 or so) that I ALWAYS download. No matter the phone or rom, and then experiment with the rest.

Opera Mobile 11 takes up over 20mb after installation. So if your phoηe is not rooted υ may not like it. Dolphiη seems to use less battery compared to Maxthon, Boat broωser, or Opera Mini. But if you're looking for a broωser UI that suits υ best, you'll have to doωnload and try them like biggpat86 said. I have Dolphiη HD, Dolphin Mini, Galapagos, Boat broωser, Boat Mini, Xscope, Opera Mini, and Skyfire cυrrently installed on my phoηe :)

I've tried just about everyone of them, first on the Intercept and then on the OV, and found that there were good points and bad points to all of them. I finally settled on the xScope browser as I liked the way that it handled tabs and bookmarks better than most of the others.

At only 3.9Mb it's also pretty space efficient which is important on the OV.

I used xScope for a week or two and liked it, switched to Boat Mini and just like it better. "Seems" faster (but may not be). I also tried Dolphin and Opera and didn't like them (to each his own). They're all too small on a 3.2" screen! Boat just seems to render pages best, wraps lines well, displays mobile pages well (and switches to desktop easily), saves cache to SD. I don't surf a lot, I have all my favorite bookmarks in an html document on my SD card that I use as my browser home page (laid out just like I have them in Chrome on my PC, so it's easy to find stuff). Have Chrome to Phone, so if I'm on a page at work I want on my phone, presto, it's there. Hopefully Google will have Chrome available soon, and it will be better than any of these.

Check out xmarks tcat. It costs $12 a year for the app to sync bookmarks to your phone, but you can view all of your bookmarks as a webpage on your phone. I have it installed on all of my computers and use it (not the app) on my phone.

Thanks, but I sync over 400 bookmarks between home and work PC and don't really want that many on my phone. I find that Bookmark Tree works well, along with my custom HTML document as my browser homepage. Under 60 bookmarks on my phone are a lot easier to navigate. If Chrome comes to phone, I may not actually use its syncing although I'm sure I'd try it. I also "tweak" bookmark names, they are much simpler/shorter on my phone.

I use Skyfire if I want to watch something with flash content,Xcope for a web site I go to a lot because of the way it rearranges the page after pinch zooming, making it easier to download Bible based audio lit.,even all 66 books of the bible and music. Private Browser I use for this site and I'm trying to figure out because it has the ability to copy and paste, which will make it possible to post a link or copy and paste instructions(instead of typing all that info. in). And last, the Browser that comes preinstalled with this ROM for everything else. When I have the ones set up for specific sites, all I do is click the home button to get out so when I want to go back to the site I just click on the specific browser and I'm there.

I currently use the stock browser since I don't really browse the net much on my phone. But, I have fiddled with most of the popular browsers and I will say that Skyfire was my favorite.

One vote for xScope here. I tried all of the browsers and even though most of them have something uniquely great, xScope has the best features/usability for me.

I've used Skyfire, Dolphin, Opera Mobile and have finally settled on Opera Mini. As one person mentioned, the full version of Opera is HUGE! Opera Mini has most of the same stuff on it at a very small fraction of the size (though bookmark sync didn't seem to work for me). Plus, no caching means less bloat. Between Mobile and Mini, I would definitely go for Mini.

Just tried Dolphin Mini. Didn't seem any faster, and it looks horrendous with that green.

What were you running before? What I like about Dolphin Mini is that I don't "fat finger" it (click on things I don't want) like I did with the stock browser, tabs, options. and "speed dial" pages were easy to find/use/set-up, and it's easy to exit (stock browser always ran on in the background). The color doesn't bother me.

I guess I didn't expect a phone based browser to be all that fast. I'm intrigued by all the happy xScope fans here, though, and may try that one next.

Thanks to all who answered!

I prefer Dolphin HD because it has different color themes. Also, υ can enable/disable javascript or change from android mode to desktop mode using gestures. Dolphin Mini's gestures is a bit more limlited, and has no theme color option.

Do what I do. I have 5 browsers that I like for one reason or another. I use them all in the course of the week.
You may not need 5 browsers, But if you got Dolphin HD,Xscope,Skyfire,Private browser, you would have all the bases covered.
If you only need two then you should make Skyfire one of them as it converts some flash content. I use it to go to crackle and watch movies and tv shows. Doesn't do a good job on flash video games though.
If you only want one your going to be doing a lot of head scratching and grinding of teeth because they all do something better than other.

Well if your watching tv at work... I want your job Andy!! :D

I've tried almost all of them and think I've settled on Boat Mini. It's fast but doesn't have loading issues with some sites like Opera Mini (my old go-to browser) has sometimes.

I tried xScope and was pretty happy with that for a short while but couldn't get past the fact that the menu button didn't open the menu toolbar. You can set the menu button to either click or long press to open the context menu, but the actual menu bar needs to be opened through the touchscreen, which is counter-intuitive to basically every other Android app that uses the menu button.

I agree!!

Wow man I'm sorry. Was good while it lasted though right?? I called my boss today... no return call. Not good.
Looks like you'll be sitting on the bench with me..
We got a couple of school constructions coming up in Nov. it'll be alright. Give me plenty of time to try out new browsers.
