Airplane mode should save battery, but it doesn't for me because of this problem.[/QUOTE]

Very strange..

I know. I have another issue of awake time climbing while the phone is in airplane mode.

Airplane mode should save battery, but it doesn't for me because of this problem.

I dont have any siggestions, Im just curious because I think I probably have the same problem as you.
What is your up time and awake time?

I've read from OTD's thread that the 50% bug doesn't seem to effect her phones battery, but from my experience it's a must for me to do the airplane trick.. considering going to have a talk with Verizon, I recently just received this replacement for problems with the leak v3 audio bug, and honestly would rather just have a new phone with 1.5.. I don't believe this phone was meant for 2.1. just my opinion of coarse.

I'm starting to think that might be my opinion also.

...another issue I just notice, all of my previous speed dial #'s have been removed and I'm not able to assign anything but the voicemail # automatically assigned. I go through the process of adding a new speed dial #, however, it doesn't save. What gives?
I have this speed dial not-saving problem too. Any fix or workaround? TIA

What is your up time and awake time?

up: 49:52:16
awake: 10:49:11

This is about 20% awake time, which is normal.

The only time I have a problem is when I put my phone into airplane mode. I like to use airplane mode when I'm at work because I don't get a signal in my classroom. By the end of the day, my battery is gone and my awake time is around 80%.

I've just been turning my phone completely off now. When i turn it on, I have to remember to quickly do the airplane mode trick to fix the 50% without a signal bug. Haha

Gotcha.
See my up time and awake time are almost identical, and my reception is fine. Always have had 3 bars here. Not sure whats up with that...
I also have the 50% bug as well.
I can understand conserving battery when you have no service, but I experimented with this 50% bug thing, and I really dont think you need to worry about fixing that with airplane.
How long have you had the OTA? Because it seems to me that battery life is horrible until about 36-48 hours after. Then it improves back to what you are used to. I am finding this to be the case on my phone with the 50% bug, and without ever touching airplane mode.

Sounds like you have an app that's keeping your phone awake. Do you have Spare Parts? You can see what's running and using your juice.

I dont have spare parts, but I have noticed a new feature on 2.1. In settings>applications>running services
you can see what is currently running in the background. The only thing that I see matching the up time or awake time is my keyboard replacement with the voice to text mic from XDA.
I would find it hard to believe that is the culprit.
I kind of figured these readings were just inaccurate and not bothering anything. Because I topped off my charge at about 6:30, and I am still at 100% now.
Major major improvements from last night after updating.

I must be daft because I updated my wife's eris and her phone is much faster than it was....no noticeable force closes from the core apps. Phone seems to be running good as ever, almost zippier than my Droid currently(but I have a custom launcher running).

My wife's favorites(quick dials) was erased but she was able to add them back..plus her contacts re-sync'd. That was about the only change I noticed.

1. Weather app force closes every time.
no crashes so far, works good

2. Still camera no longer works on vertical mode.
camera works vert and horiz

3. YouTube app works, but the screen is tiny. (just use YouTube Mobile... it works better.)
this was addressed earlier

4. No pinch-to-Zoom in Google Maps (so what, but VZW said it was there)
addressed

5. No speech-to-text? At least, I cannot find anything other than search that uses it.
this has to be installed as probably already stated..not stock unfortunately

6. Facebook For Android is MANDATORY, YOU CANNOT UNINSTALL THIS CRAP APP.
all 2.0 devices are stock with facebook

7. Virtual keyboard text window doesn't really close all the time... don't know how to explain that but try posting comments here from your phone's web browser and see if it happens to you.
Seems fine here too but I figure this is possibly diff for people.

Looks like some Eris are running fine with 2.1 while others aren't. Now my wife's phone had little to no extra apps installed at the time of update. I'm not sure but I'm guessing there are hardware and android OS integrity variations btw people's phones.

Glad someone is having a good experience.
I have noticed some problems, but I am actually perfectly fine with the way my phone is operating anyway.
My battery life seems to be back to normal now. I had 2 force closes when I spent more time in the market than I ever plan to ever again, so I dont think that will bother me.
50% w/o signal seems to have no effect. Awake time appears as though it should be problematic, but it has not been.
I must say I have noticed some lag in some areas, but in other areas such as opening up my photo album, it is instant now whereas in 1.5 it took a while to load all of my pictures. Gained some and lost some as far as lag goes. But honestly waiting 1 second sometimes really doesnt bother me at all.
So all in all, I am pretty thrilled with this.
I think the one problem I would like to see a solution for was the force close issue when I received a call while using navigation today.

Because my music player app now is so slow after this OTA, anyone know of one that is real snappy and has decent track scrubbing ability?

So still waiting on my update. Of course my friend who lives down the street got hers last yesterday. I only had a chance to peek at it. She did have a problem I had not seen on any post yet. Her text messages have a notification ring when she sends. I found in her message settings where you can disable it but I was not allowed to deselect the option. Any idea's???
I still wish I had that problem so I could play with my own 2.1 update. :(

I had the vibation, notification sound, and received a message saying my message was delivered. Incredibly annoying new feature. Not sure why anyone wants that. But thank god I was able to disable it in the menu.
I assume you did go to messages>menu>setings> scroll down to sent messages options you need to uncheck "sent notification"
With this unchecked it makes "play notification sound", "notification sound", and "vibrate" turn darker and not touchable. Even though the darkened "play notification sound" is still checked, I dont get any of those annoying things anymore.
So basically just uncheck the sent notification box.
If you did that, and it didnt help, then I dont know.

I have noticed that there are way too many things running in the background for no reason. When I start the phone nearly all my apps are running. I can shut them down but messages and people always run. Also mp3 store seems to pop up and other I've never used. I think this is responsible for the poor battery life.

Was always the same on 1.5 also. But I had great battery life.
And apparently this type of software is built for multitasking. It is normal for multiple things to run in the background, and it does not drain your battery.
But its something I am not used to, and it bothers me. So I do use advanced task killer. It is the first thing I do as soon as/any time I turn on my phone.

A few things for people with battery issues.

First, for people who think that I don't have battery issues, think again. I have issues with my battery. Mostly due to the fact that I use my phone constantly. I'm on my phone so much that I run down the battery very quickly. So any measure out of battert life on my part is not truly accurate.

Secondly, many of you need to double check the regular battery saving tips that you did on 1.5. I know that when I switch to 2.1 and forgot to do adjust a lot of the settings and it did caused me grief with my battery. 2.1 it's not 1.5 therefore many the battery tips the we used on 1.5 need to be altered for 2.1. At least that has been my experience.

Last, anybody that is using the HTC battery widget may want to remove that phone. For me the battery widget sucked my battery dry faster than anything I could have done to my phone. On 2.1 that thing is poison, IMHO.

Edit: Also keep in mind that many of you are playing with your phone a lot more than you did before. This happened to all of us using the leaks. Once we calmed done and returned to normal use, our battery life did improve.

Got the update this morning, spent many hours today trying to get the phone back to what it was before.

Have weather bug, but may have got the fix from another thread....
Camera is ok, just noticed the slide out controls so it's good.
Spare Parts states it won't work higher that 1.5 so at least I can shut the screen off with the work around of "sleep".

I have is I can't figure out how to change my txt notification to something besides what my email uses. Don't know if this is a new bug or user interface incompatance....

Biggest complaint as I just found out is no more pinch/zoom in my defalut browser.

does anyone else has this problem?
i can only see the first 100 contacts (alphabetically) from my Facebook account in the integrated Facebook for htc sense.
why is that?

thanks.

Yeah, I'm having the same problem, still haven't figured out how to fix it. I can only see to the "c"s or "d"s and nothing lower, I can't even search for anyone lower than that. :(

Aside from the Facebook contact issue the other problem I'm having is that regardless of whether I have an individual ringtone assigned to one of my contacts it still plays my default ringtone for everyone. I've tried deleting and manually re-entering those contacts and reassigning the ringtones as well... even assigning them using different apps and still the problem persists. Is anyone else having this problem and have you found a solution? Uber frustrated.

every time i try to edit a contact i get a force close on people(process com.android.htccontacts) for some reason when i updated the pics didnt stay with the names, now i cant even edit a contact. anyone have any idea/same problem?

So far the transitions have been alot smoother on 2.1 than 1.5. In regards to the stuff that the op posted, its all there and hopefully verizon relizes this and puts out a fix.

i can not assign speed dial.

so are apps now stored on the sd card or still on internal memory

out of curiosity how much do you guys have left on your internal memory
