Report your 2.1 OTA error /bugs/complaints here.

When switching to WiFi, I turn off the mobile network. When I switch back and turn on the mobile network, I now have to swith
it on/off twice before the 3g signal activates.

I've been pretty lucky...dont have the majority of problems other people have on here. I didnt even need to log into gmail/fb again or use mybackup files...everything was the same when I updated OTA, all my apps and settings were in tact. My single phone contact even appeared. I only had to redo my home screens.

I have a few minor complaints:

-Facebook syncing: I had the option turned off in the sync section because I only wanted to choose certain fb friends to sync. I could do this in People with 1.5, but when I tried in 2.1 it wouldnt work. So I had to turn on the facebook sync and get all 200+ friends. By sheer luck I got the fb pics to show up in the Favorites contact widget. However, now I get all my facebook phone #'s, names, emails, etc that pop up in certain text programs. The option is turned off in People, but doesnt work in anything else :( FB syncing overall just seems quirky.

-If I'm looking at a contact's details in People, and I go down and hit "edit contact," it gives me a list of ALL my contacts and wants me to choose who to edit. Umm, isnt that obvious since I was just looking at the contact I wanted to edit?! Hate this extra unnecessary step.

-In 1.5, when I first clicked a person in the Favorites contact widget, it would ask me what default action I wanted. Chose it and done. In 2.1, I choose the default and then starts the action! (IE, I choose "call" for default, then it calls the person) I think this is silly.

-Can't for the life of my click the name below the picture on Favorites contact widget for anyone on the left side! The middle and right rows work just fine. But people in the left row always get their pic pressed instead and starts the default calling action. I only have 2 rows of people so I tried hitting the screen way below the 2nd row and moving up just a tiny bit higher...no matter what, even though I KNOW I only hit the name, the picture gets selected

My biggest complaint -
My Facebook friend's pictures are not showing up in my contacts list. I went to settings, accounts & sync, removed Facebook account and added it again thinking maybe that would help. Now some of my contacts are linked but their pics aren't there. And my contacts whose names start with M-Z are not in my list of Facebook contacts for me to chose from when i try to link them. GRRRR!

I'm having the same issue but mine starts with K. Anyone have any advice or a fix for this issue. It is really annoying that I can't sync my Facebook contact info with my phone contacts. I don't seem to be having other issues yet but haven't worked my phone over much yet either. Thanks.

My girlfriend is having the same issue. I am still waiting on the OTA to see how screwed up mine is.

Any ideas on this one cause I am lost?

I'm having trouble with my contacts and texting using Handcent SMS. When I send a message it works, but when I receive it from another person it comes in a different box and when trying to reply it asks to save the number. Could this be, because I don't use the area code? I have my contacts saved under Google and I didn't have to punch in my local area code with 1.5

Yes i Have this too.please help

PdaNet problem here. I'm able to get the computer to recognize the connection but I'm getting no interwebs connection?!? I think it may have something to do with the connection type thing. i.e. : Charge only, HTC Sync, Disk Drive. I've tried all of them with no success. Any thoughts? Thanks for any advice as I have a 12hour car drive/ride Tuesday:eek:.

I lost a few of my contacts, and when I try to add them to my contact list, it lets me add their name, and when I click ok it makes me force close. Any ideas? I have reset the phone multiple times.

This should be made "sticky" if it hasn't been already........

I think, but I'm not certain, I've found another bug in v3 (OTA), and a surprising one:

1. BATTERY LIFE

I usually live life with the phone plugged in, and maybe 3-4 hours per day unplugged. One day a week I'm out of the house all day, and usually I can easily go the day with moderate use, and the battery still stays at least "yellow".

However, on this version, it seems the indicator drops a notch within minutes of being unplugged... then it goes downhill from there. Usually where I am, it does have to hunt for a signal, but always lasts a whole day even so. With this version, I don't think I got more than 7 hour's life out of a full charge.

When I checked what was using the battery, it showed that an app I'd used for 1/2 an hour (Cardiotrainer) used more power than anything else - normally this app doesn't do that (same version of that app).

Also new: when it cut to black.... it REALLY cut to black. No "auto-shutdown" mode when it sensed a dead battery. It simply turned off, and that was that.

The other thing that makes me think there's a bug in power management: The "unplugged" time read something like 4 hours, when it was closer to 7 hours.

2. RANDOM UNRESPONSIVENESS

More so than the previous leaks, I notice a lag on v3 (OTA) that wasn't there before. When loading an app, or more noticeably while actually using an app (and not multitasking). What would normally be a 1 second pause after pressing a button sometimes takes 3-4 seconds, sometimes not responding at all.

I'm sure there will be more. Not that I want to wish bad luck on people, but I hope enough people report these problems to they get fixed in a patch :p

Can we PLEASE sticky this thread or at least keep it up top so people will stop making so many bug threads??

Also, shouldn't this should be a thread about 2.1 OS bugs, not APP bugs?

I read all the posts. No one mentioned losing the "favorites" tab at the bottom of the screen in the people app. Also, the favorites screen seems to only hold 9 people! Strange... Each time I add another, it replaces one I had already added. Use to have 12 of the people I dial most often. Anyone else have this? Did you find an answer or work- around?

My weather widget doesn't work after the OTA upgrade. The error msg is "the application weather (process com.htc.weather) has stopped unexpectedly.".

Ok, I figured it out. I had to delete all the cache and application data and now it works.

I updated to 2.1 and it deleted ALL my contacts. Anyone else have this problem? And if so, do you know any fixes? Naively, I did not do a backup so I'm hoping there's some way for me to get my contacts back.

Is it odd that my phone will not unlock while it's downloading the update? It wont slide to unlock and the menu button doesn't work either. Anybody else have this happen?

Just finished the OTA upgrade from 1.5. Touch screen is acting very strange. I hope this is just a start up issue. I've rebooted and pulled the battery a couple of times already to try to see if it would go away, but so far it has not. Seems that screen registers short touches way too quickly. When I try to swipe the screen to scroll through a list it registers a touch wherever I start the swipe. If I try a long touch then it registers multiple short touches at the same place. So trying to move an app icon on my home screen not only opens the icon but takes me a couple of menu levels deep. This is making it completely impossible just to set up my home screens. Is there some setting or program to adjust the touch screen? It used to be very usable on 1.5, now very difficult. I'm trying to dig through settings menus but unfortunately that requires scrolling and I get to visit every menu and program along the way, and the back button usually registers two touches and drops me completely out of settings. Luckily there is the little track ball or I wouldn't even be able to power it down without pulling the battery.

Very frustrating! I try to add one app icon to my home page and end up with multiple copies of the wrong one. Then they keep opening instead of letting me drag them to the trash. In the email app it is registering touches of the menu button as a touch in the middle of the screen, so instead of pulling up a menu like I want it to it opens the third message down in my inbox. I touch a check-box and watch it check and then uncheck itself immediately. Time for another power cycle and a little break from this mess.

My initial excitement at getting the update is definitely wearing off. I hope that this will settle down by itself once the update breaks in a little bit. It better.

1. Dialing Bug
Today I tried to make a call, it said "dialing" and gave a small vibration, then it went away... I thought the call didn't go through, but those that I tried to call said their phone rang and could not hear me, I couldn't hear them either. I attempted 20 times to make a call and it did this. I had to restart my phone, and only then did phone calling work.
All the other bugs were just annoying since it didn't hinder my phone from being a phone. But now I couldn't even make calls.

2. Facebook Contact Picture Blurred
On 1.5 my contacts used Facebook profile pictures and they were clear. Now on 2.1 they are blurry. I deleted one contact and entered it back in, after it linked with Facebook, the picture came in clear, and when I made a phone call it was clear. Then after I made a call again the picture became blurry again. Anyone else having this problem?

I'm surprised how many bugs 2.1 has after the extensive testing Verizon has done for the past few months... :(

My weather widget doesn't work after the OTA upgrade. The error msg is "the application weather (process com.htc.weather) has stopped unexpectedly.".

Should I do a hard reset or call support first? Does the hard reset wipe out the SD card if I have my stuff backed up on there?

Go to Menu > Settings > Applications > Manage Applications

Then carefully look for any application that has to do with weather and clear the data associated with each. There are at least 3 of them. It should work after that.

Your Facebook pictures should eventually come in clear. Apparently, it brings them in blurry and gradually sharpens them up. Some images on the internet work that way as well. That way you at least have a place holder that resembles a picture while it is loading the rest of them. Just be patient.

Also, make sure you're logged into the Facebook app. Mine got stuck until I logged back in.

It just keeps getting worse. I tried entering text with swype and the over-responsive touch screen registered my swipes as multiple single touches over every part of the keyboard. So swype has become useless. I don't even know if I can make a phone call reliably. Probably end up with a bunch of repeated digits for every number I try to hit. It took my 5 tries just to enter my facebook password. This totally hoovers.

I also can't delete a Pandora icon on my home screen because instead of registering a long touch as a signal that I want to move the icon it just fires up Pandora, selects a channel and starts playing music. Once in a while it seems like it's working, but when I try to drag the icon to the trash the "trash" button turns back into the "phone" button and it opens up the phone dialer. So far I've been lucky not to have "OTA dialed" (like butt dialing but much easier to do since the OTA update) anyone since it's late.

I'm open to any suggestions as to how to fix this. PLEASE!

It came in clear when I created the contact, then it went blurry... I figured it would do as you say, but its been a few days now and all are blurry.

Another annoying thing with FB syncing: since I cant choose who I want to sync anymore and I have to sync with EVERYone, I now get a update notification every couple seconds from everyone doing stuff on fb.

I want to keep the notification, but there are certain friends who are constantly updating and then there are others I just dont care to follow that much. This was exactly why I chose certain contacts to link with fb :(

Facebook and Google contacts are synced, but the pictures aren't changing. I'm hoping that time and a few reboots will fix this though.

This reminded me of another thing that bugged me about v3/OTA... For what it's worth, I am having similar issues, too (and these seem new to the v3/OTA... v2 leak didn't do this).

I'm able to use the phone and Swype, but I did notice how the touch interface now seems really buggy. At times I'll be touching the middle of the screen, and Swype will show a trace from the very bottom of the screen, shooting upwards, that I DIDN'T make.

Also, in several apps that feature long scrolling lists, it will sometimes register that I made a hard "down" gesture and scroll very quickly downwards through the list (which usually, I didn't). I then have to make a second press to put on the brakes and make the list stop scrolling, or it just keeps going...

The battery life issue was fresh on my mind, and I forgot about this one. Definitely add "BUGGY TOUCH INTERFACE" to the list of OTA complaints. :(

(Any they're supposed to still be distributing the OTA until the 24th I read?... with no patches?... yikes)

3 hours after the update the crazy touchy touch screen seems to be settling down. I was able to successfully change between home screen pages by swiping left and right (which didn't work even an hour ago). Maybe the eris was just really busy syncing after the big upgrade and now it's getting past that. I don't know if that explains the v3 issue since that was a clean install rather than an upgrade, but it's a theory. From the description the v3 issue is "buggy" as opposed to "unusable" touch interface. I'll be much happier with buggy than unusable.

Hopefully in a few more hours it will be usable. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

6:00am MST (4 hours after originally posting this) -- I wouldn't have believed it, but it seems to have fixed itself and is working normally again. Now I'm happy with 2.1.
