Hmm seem in their effort to maintain settings , they have caused issues. My v3 leak is perfectly stable and I have update in excess of 5 of these phones for co workers. On anyone experiencing bugginess a hard reset has cleared the issue.

I most cases it appears to be cached data having an unanticipated effect on the app or widget. The reset clears this and the problems go away(at least that has been my experience). If I find any new info, I'll be sure to post.

i strongly believe this to be the reason ota'rs are seeing problems, good advice

I think it may be an Exchange option that is required. Corporate email was added to the phone, and since that update, the password is required. Case solved.

Not sure about that - I've been accessing my work Exchange server (via Touchdown) since I got the phone; got the OTA update yesterday, and still getting my email without any problem. My phone doesn't ask me for a password; my email didn't ask me for the password. Just kept on going. :)

Now it may depend heavily on the specifics of the Exchange server; just sharing my personal experience here.

I love the update and that I'm now able to send pics via txt to iphone users. However, I'm having problems with Amazon mp3 force closing every couple of minutes (when I'm not even using the program). I'm also having trouble now with the phone as a phone. I received several calls yesterday where the person calling could hear me but I could not hear them. One more complaint: the alarm clock and ringer keeps going silent. If anyone knows what I should do about the Amazon force close message, please let me know. I don't want to wipe my phone and lose all my paid apps.

Playing audio through bluetooth 'skips' every few seconds, really annoying considering I stream the bluetooth to my car via Sync. Bluetooth control over the player is much better it seems though.

Not all of my contacts are syncing. They show up on Gmail, but not my phone... weird.

There's actually a way to clear the phone's /cache directory entirely without doing a hard reset. It might be worthwhile for someone to try doing this before resorting to the hard reset. When you follow the sequence that's used to install the update.zip, instead of choosing "flash update from update.zip" from the recovery menu, you have the options "clear cache" or "factory reset." Someone should try doing the "clear cache" there to see if it helps.

Did you finally get the OTA, only to discover that certain things just DON'T WORK?

1. Weather app force closes every time.
2. Still camera no longer works on vertical mode.
3. YouTube app works, but the screen is tiny. (just use YouTube Mobile... it works better.)
4. No pinch-to-Zoom in Google Maps (so what, but VZW said it was there)
5. No speech-to-text? At least, I cannot find anything other than search that uses it.
6. Facebook For Android is MANDATORY, YOU CANNOT UNINSTALL THIS CRAP APP.
7. Virtual keyboard text window doesn't really close all the time... don't know how to explain that but try posting comments here from your phone's web browser and see if it happens to you.

Maybe not everyone has the same problems or opinions about annoyances.

I've had zero of the problems in that list.

#6 is not relevant to me, nor is #4 pinch to zoom in maps (there is a handy + sign for easy zooming in or out).

Great 1.5. Greater 2.1... however:

I feel like starting a thread about factory resetting; I think it is solving a lot of issues inherent in the OS replacement and that it should be done as a last step in the installation process.

It takes a total of about three minutes (I had no issues, but did the reset after backing up my stuff just so I could see what the process involves and speak from experience about it next time I see a question about factory reset).

I went from 1.5 to 2.0 OTA, finally got it last night.

I was having the same problem with facebook photos not syncing with my contacts. I could still view their FB profile from their contact list, it synced birthdays and status but the pics just wouldn't show up. I turned the phone off, did a battery pull, waited a couple minutes and turned it back on. All of my contacts are now synced with FB photos.

The only problem I have now is that my phone actually seems to be running slower than it did on 1.5. My phone was awesome on 1.5, never had any problems, it was quick and always responsive. Now when I switch between apps (by long pressing the home button) it lags, the Market is very slow, browser is slow, and when I push the home or back buttons I usually have to press them 3 or 4 times before my phone responds. Very annoying, I hope that problem solves itself with time.

Another thing I have noticed is when I open my browser and it is taking forever to load my screen seems like it is trying to auto-fit itself, it expands a little, contracts a little, and continually 'bounces' back and forth until the page has loaded. Not really causing any problems but it is annoying and seems to slow the brower down even more. Anyone else having this problem?

Yes, if you think about it for a minute

of course some 1.5 apps are not compatible with 2.1 and vice versa

the ota is a upgrade, not a full flash, so it tries to keep your apps intact (am i right with that?)

well when you boot up 2.1 after your update, any 1.5 apps that cause issues with 2.1 are there and can hose all kinds of things.

So a quick factory reset will clean it all up and give you a fresh start with happy 2.1 apps.

As far as the zoomed out view goes when opening a page you can go to Browser > Menu > More > Settings and uncheck Open Pages In Overview to get a normal screen. This may affect pinch zoom as well, but not sure.

Thanks very much, OTD, and HTCthebestdroid. That seems to have done the trick! Not sure what effect it has on the pinch/zoom but it is working now. That was making me crazy, opening the browser to such tiny font. My eyes are too old for that sort of thing!

I'm missing all of the old 1.5 HTC widgets, which is a huge pain. I use the calendar and people ones constantly. I tried turning the phone off and on again but had no luck in getting them to come back :(

wow... I've never used the long Home press to switch between apps. Nice feature that I've been unaware all this time.

I know that Google Voice has an "issue" where when you push the back button to exit out, it comes back and you have to back out a 2nd time. (this happened on 1.5, but the 2nd back out was much quicker and you probably didn't even notice it).

Anyway, if you long press the Home button, and switch to Voice... you only need to back out once for it to go away. Thought that was interesting.

Try pulling the battery out for a minute and then restarting.

Apologies if this has already been covered...
But how many with the silent call in 2.1 issue are using Google Voice? VZW support is suggesting this _might_ be an issue, but I'd like a little more data.

Mine will not let me enter the recovery menu... I was going to try it. It seems to lock up.

The silent call bug has occurred after a factory reset with NO third-party apps installed. It's a hardware issue in some phones, brought to light by the linux kernel used in 2.1.

To speed up Verizon's response to the silent call bug, tell them you already tried a factory reset.

Also, even if Google Voice were the problem, it's an official Google app and you're entitled to a phone that runs it correctly. "Don't use that app" isn't an acceptable solution from Verizon.

Yea, I had already told them that I did a factory reset and did NOT install any new apps. When they saw that my voice mail number was the one for google voice, they jumped on that. I'm currently in the process of trying to reproduce the silent call and then I'll have support look at the phone over the network.

I can almost guarantee that you won't be able to reproduce the bug on purpose. I tried so many times to do that, and never could. It just seems to appear when it wants to. That's why I eventually called customer service instead of going to a store. Way easier; they won't say "prove it."

My wifes phone got the OTA upgraded from 1.5 and the facebook images in the people app, favorites widgets and calls screen are still crap. What is going on to cause this image quality loss.

Well, I went to the store and the next day called customer service. They're the ones saying 'prove it'.

2. Still camera no longer works on vertical mode.

Yes it does, the GUI just doesn't change to indicate that it "rotated", but you can still takes pics in vertical mode and the picture will look just fine just as you took it. The reason they do this (I assume) is so you can quickly switch back and forth between vertical and horizontal picture taking without waiting for the Eris to "rotate" the GUI. There was simply no reason for this. It's just like a regular camera. When you rotate a regular digital camera, the interface on the camera doesn't rotate too does it? Thanks to the internal sensor, the phone always knows which way is up, so take a pic either way and it'll be just fine. The GUI just doesn't change now, which actually makes things faster, it was a good decision on HTC's part.

Does anyone know if there is a way to disable the Facebook contact sync option as well as remove the Facebook contacts without removing the Facebook profile picture support?

That sucks. I've only seen two people who were able to purposely reproduce the bug on demand, and their methods never worked for anyone else, so it's going to be very difficult to prove it to Verizon. If they expect you to reset your phone and then keep it not-set-up for a week while waiting for the bug to reappear, they're total jerks. I once had my phone go for literally ten days between appearances of the bug (with no change in my own use of it).
