Root Request for Rooted NC owners

Hi guys,

I don't have the Nook but I'm not sure if one of you nice NC owners can post updates to what a rooted NC can do. Also, things it can't do ...yet.
I know I can go the the XDA forums and search but dang I'm lazy. :)

I know you can install gapps which will give you access to the market but really...what else can we possibly ask for from the XDA devs. What else are the Devs working on?

I have a rooted NC (I didn't root it, my boyfriend did) and it is GREAT! I have access to the market, web browsing, and even my Nookbooks still. I am a little jealous, Tom the talking cat won't work on it because I don't have a microphone but it does have speakers. He ran into some issues with YouTube, it's currently not working but he tells me when Froyo 2.2 (sp?) comes out in January (again - not sure?) it will fix that. Forgive me if my termanalogy isn't right, I am came from the Blackberry market and this is my first time with anything Droid. I love the Nook - I have access to my Google calendar now and I have a neat task app I got from the market called Gtask (I believe). Its a great functional tablet thats way less expensive that the iPad and its easier to handle (I believe) because its smaller. Sorry about the crappy photo, I took it with my CrackBerry.

I have working Market, Talk, Calendar. Still waiting on Contacts so I can really start using Voice to do SMS.

Use Autonooter by Gab: Auto-Nooter 2.12.18 (1.0.1 Only) - xda-developers

What it does:
Installs su and Superuser.apk
Installs Busybox
Installs Softkeys 2.0.2
Installs NookColor Tools (To Enable Non-Market Installs)
Installs Calendar and Calculator.
Installs Android Market, Gmail, Youtube
Enable Multi-touch for Android Apps
Enables Live Wallpapers
Enables Android Market and Gmail.
App Auto Install (Open up NooterFiles from sdcard drop in /data/app)

and yes you can install the kindle app but why you'd give money to amazon for their BS proprietary AZW format is beyond me.

The Devs are currently working on overclocking kernels (it exists but its in testing so not public yet), getting Froyo on it (very experimental build but it will run) and also trying to enable bluetooth (this could very well not happen depending on what BN physically did to the wifi radio)

I've already bought into the Amazon eco-system. I really couldn't care less about the proprietary format. I can read it on my Kindle, I can read it on my phone, I can read it on my computer if I really want to. Everything syncs across devices. I was reading A Christmas Carol on my phone while a virus scan ran at work. When I got home I picked up my Kindle and it automagically synced to where I had read in the book and it works vice versa. And the Kindle will still read non-DRM books as well.

T&P for you, brother. Maybe Santa will leave an iphone under your tree.

Not the same thing. Pretty much anyone and everyone can publish books to the Amazon store provided they're not ridiculously obscene. (I think they recently pulled a book on how to molest boys.) Also, you can sideload content obtained elsewhere with no problems. I do it all the time.

Also, please correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't Nook books DRM encoded also?

Ok I nootered my wifes nook without asking:eek: lol. I couldn't stand the browser and no home and back button. She's asleep so I can't complete the sign-on. Well I can but I think I've done enough to a device that's not mine.

Question- how much app space does she have? I know apps2sd isn't available on 2.1 so I want to know the storage capacity for apps vs other media without the use of an sd card?

i have a lot of apps installed and if i go into the NookColorTools app, click settings and then SDcard&InternalPhoneStorageSettings, I show 655 megs free.

that would be plenty for me on my Evo even without apps2sd

And the cool part of this story?

With a rooted Nook Color, you install the Amazon app and it runs full screen, still synching to your iPhone or Android phone or what have you. Plus you get the Nook eReader app. Plus any other book reading app. And you can side-load any ePub book you want FOR FREE inclusive of those you get from your local library or download off the internet (including 'ripped' current releases if that floats your boat). And you get free WiFi access at any B&N store and most Starbucks locations to boot.

For the money, a Nook Color, once rooted, has got to be the best bargain our there. Free yourself from sucking only on Amazon's teat my friend. The world is yours with a rooted Nook.

How do you get all your icons so close together? Mine are 2 or 3 icon spaces apart. Running adw launcher ex. Also updated to 1.0.1 and rooted with autonooter.

Has anyone tried to download a epub drm file from overdrive.com? this is the website that is linked to our library for checking out ebooks

Yes I have and it works well. However, you have to do it in two steps. First downlaod the ePub book from your library website to your computer and open with the Adobe Digital Edition reader. Then connect your NC to your computer with the Nook USB cable. You then sync the book from the Adobe Digi program to your Nook. At the end of the lending period, you can no longer read your book, however. You will find the book in Library / My files under Memory Card / media / Digital Edictions. This is also the same place you will store downloaded ePubs purchased from other sellers like Kobo.

If you cannot find the downloaded file on your NC, you may need to move it from another download folder.

I have already rooted my NC and put froyo on my micro sd but can't get market or anything else. can I just format the micro sd externaly and put your methode on it or do I have to unroot my NC?
