Root [Request] Please test for me please, will further development/debug issues

I really need a few guinea pigs for a harmless test that will hopefully allow me to understand the current issues with my rom. This is a request to people who have been UNSUCCESSFUL at booting my rom. If you are able to boot, you can help as well and I will compare the results. Do remember to make a backup of your current system.
1: I would like you to flash the official update.zip from the ZTE website here. This needs to be done either through adb or stock recovery. There is a thread for this.
2: When the phone has booted successfully to stock android, apply the steps to install cwm recovery BEFORE ota update has a chance to complete. Its very easy and won't take much time.
3: Flash my rom from the thread
4: Report your results

The purpose of this test is to see if there may be conflicting assets between the ota and the current state of my rom. My thought is that somewhere within the ota lies the resolution to the backwards compatability of my rom. My personal device does not contain any assets from the ota whatsoever as I never actually allowed it to be applied...ever. I wish to find out if this may be the reason to which so many people have issues with the rom.
The test is harmless and there is no risk to breaking your device. That being said, do this at your own risk as I accept no responsibility to what you do to your device.
My gut tells me there is a link here, but my brain tells me I'm just an idiot. Let me know which one it is ;-)

I thought we decided the kernel was the issue with it not booting. So wouldn't a simpler test be to flash the stock kernel after flashing your rom?

well idk. cuz i was running ur rom for about 35 mins (all i could handle) and about 10 secs after first boot, it rebooted. and it went downhill from there. my awe is one of the "good" ones so it shouldnt do that, and im running the kernel by itself on stock and havent had a reboot or problem yet. it may be something REALLY small causing trouble

NON-HLOS.bin
boot.img
emmc_appsboot.mbn
recovery.img
rpm.mbn
sbl1.mbn
sbl2.mbn
sbl3.mbn
splash.img
tz.img

^partitions flashed during update^

Sbl if I remember correctly is scecure bootloader. Tz.img is "trusted zone" in the hboot. Maybe the update is breaking root or changing something in the bootloader?

Had you taken the ota?

im updated and fully rooted, no reboots on stock kernel:D

Right, STOCK kernel. This test is to see about the kernel BEFORE the ota is taken. I figure it could help the developers understand where the problem lies since so many people are having issues with it. My presumption is that those who have taken the ota that updates several assets, including the kernel, will experience the reboot/no-boot issue. By returning the phone to its original state and THEN flashing the rom/kernel may prove this is the issue.

I pulled the ota update (still never flashed it) and found several patches that may prove my theory further. Brittnearl, can you perhaps pull it from /cache and post it before i can for cdz/rbheromax others to investigate? Maybe they can understand the problem more.

I will whenever i get home :) i removed the recovery patch from updater-script when i updated to keep phils recovery:D

Just reverted to stock (no root stock recovery) took the OTA , rooted with Cydia Impactor and flashed phils recovery (togling the update binary option) cleared data, cache, dalvik mounted system and flashed. No issues here.

You obviously had to revert back to stock or were on stock with no root right? I mean because you'd have to be on a stock recovery to flash an official update. Or has been in my experience. Did you lose root after the ota?

...oooook yea, this is expected. There should be no issues whatsoever with root. Root binaries do nothing harmful to the system unless the user does.
This test however does not concern root

I didnt think it did but the sbl and tz files were making me think something may have changed in the bootloader causing the issues.

I'm still thinking that the entire issue is not related to the ota. The not-being-able-to-boot symptoms were identical to those unable to flash the oc kernel.

I cannot flash the ROM at all. I've never been activated (use my phone for free on WiFi). I've never done the OTA. I am fully rooted. The oc kernel will not work for my phone. I will test it out now

Phew...crisis narrowly averted.
Apparently these things are pretty resilient to water. Taking it apart was surprisingly easy to get it dried off. Not that I suggest dropping them in the toilet by any means, but apparently this thing holds up pretty well after being completely submerged for around 30 seconds. The only issues I initially had was that the vibrate motor wouldnt stop, the mic wasnt working and the power button was registering like it was stuck. After all is said and done its like it never happened. Funilly enough its actually working BETTER than it did before...no idea how that works. Too early to tell what damage it actually sustained if any. Hopefully it doesnt rust up any contacts, but I dried it off very thoroughly best I could.
My girlfriends phone...she would have KILLED me if I didnt get it working properly. And they would never have found the body >_<

Hi. Happy to read it's still working but please take the back off, cards and the battery out. Lay all 2 days in a bowl of dry rice, to get all the moist out. If you don't chances are high the remaining moist will erode and ruin the contacts within in the time to come.

Ive taken a hair dryer and shammy to the entire insides of the phone and all contacts. Thanks for the advice though! We do have a warranty on it yet, so if anything well get it replaced
