Root Request to Themers

First, I want to thank all of the people who put time and effort into the people creating Themes for us. Your contributions are greatly appreciated.

Ok, so here's my request. Often times, there are a lot of things about a theme that I really like but some parts of the theme I'm not too crazy about. Is it possible to break up the parts of the theme so that we can pick and choose the parts we like?

For instance, I like ldrifta's LDK-ICK theme, but the lock-screen kills it for me. I hate that slide up to unlock feature. At first I thought it was cool when I got the Esteem, but that slide-up gesture doesn't always unlock. I have decent sized hands but that movement is somewhat awkward and it's much easier and convenient to slide to the right. So how about having 3 different lock screens.

Another example is the boot-animation. If users had the option of choosing their own boot, it'd be pretty cool.

Maybe having 2-3 battery icons to choose from.

Basically at the end of it, we'll have to flash over 5-10 zips instead of 1 complete zip, but this customize-ability would be awesome so that each individual users can be even happier.

Just a suggestion.

I'm actually probably going to do add ons for atleast phone candy. Different color bubble battery icons, transparent status bar, etc etc. Now the only real problem is, none of us have the actual time to make that many zips/apks. None of us get paid to make/port themes nor roms or kernel for that matter. If someone wants to full time employ me or anyone for that matter to make that many different versions, and the pay check pays all my bills and gives me left over cash Ill make as many different versions as anyone wants. I for one, and I'm sure ldrifta, KaneOfMars, spc_hicks09, Aplus and anyone else that has made or ported a theme, don't have the free time at all for that. It'd be easier and 10 times faster to just tell someone how to do it and they can do it with any icons and such they find.

I was in the same spot of NOT liking certain things about themes. So I just learned what it took to change what I wanted and found out that it's surpirsingly easy.

For instance if you wanna change the lockscreen on LD-ICK it is very easy, if you have the tools. Android commander to push the files to your phone AND the icons for the lockscreen that you want.

Everything is made up of PNG files, image files, and they just need to be in the right folder. So my suggestion is if you wanna edit small things in themes, just take the time and learn how to do it. It's really not hard. :D

Yea, I tried researching on how to make those changes myself, or even make themes and contribute them on here, but after about an hour and taking a few steps into making a theme, I got lost in how big the zip file was and still didn't understand a lot of it.

Are there any links or advice you can give? I'd love to make themes and contribute. The more people working with our limited time will better our Esteem community.

What can you tell me? Wanna give me a call? :D

If you still have the links that helped you, I'd be grateful if you directed me to them.

What i did was I took the framework.res.apk and systemui.apk files and broke them down with 7zip so that i could see what was inside of them. Once I did that i was staring at every icon and color on the phone.

If you want to change say the 4G icon, you would just replace it in either systemui or framework, depending on which it's in, and then re-zip the .apk with 7zip.

My advice is unzip framework.res and systemui and look in the drawable-hdpi folder. Most everything you would want to change will be in there.

Get the android commander program I made a thread about and use it to do everything remotely from your PC instead of doing it on your phone. You push and pull files via the commander and not have to install a zip every time you make a change. Much more efficient.

Cool. I won't have a chance today, but I'll have some time tomorrow to mess around with it. Thanks Fuzzy.

just a tip :D even though the png's for the lockscreen are in framework/res_capp, your actual 'lockscreen' file your device is using is the 'android.policy.jar' so if you want the aosp lockscreen (slide open sideways) just replace that file with what in the previos ick roms or whatever..

the only problem is with that new lockscreen, your phone wont know what the hell to put on it.. so your gonna see things like 'NO SIM' and stuff like that..

to fix that you need to decompile framework and edit the 'eri.xml' file according to the lockscreen :D im not really sure how to do that so this is far as i can take you with lockscreens lol

battery icons on the otherhand will be a B*TCH!!! because thats in the framework.. so every single time i/you update your work.. you have to update it in each framework with diff battery icons.. so your better off using rtoolbox for stuff like that.. lol
