Why not give it back to Best Buy if it has only been a day?

Well heres my story. I switched to sprint from verizon on the 15th of July. Got a blackberry. Didn't work. Exchange. Next one. Bad trackpad. Exchange. Next one. Another bad trackpad. Exchange. Annoyed the hell out of them to see when they would have evos in stock. Got one. Light leakage. Exchange. I'm just so damn embarrassed now. Plus all my phones have been bad from there so I thought what better way to get a perfect one than to have it shipped from the company itself?

I don't think it really matters where you get it from, it will still be hot or miss. If the leakage is really noticeable I would bring it back to Best Buy first. Worse they can say is no......

Well I just really don't wanna go back to best buy. Do you think HTC will acknowledge the problem and send me a new one? And do you know how it works exactly?

I doubt that they consider a small light leak an issue... In the course of normal use, light leakage doesn't affect anything the phone does. About the only time it's an issue is in a dark room.

Best of luck to you on your dream of swapping, but from what I've seen in the forums, if all you have is a bit of a leak, keep it and be greatful you don't have a screen separation problem or worse.

If I said yes or no would you believe me?

The only people who would be able to answer you is HTC themselves.......

My worry is that it will eventually turn into that and get much worse have you seen peoples pictures and stories? The light leakage isn't the only problem but the others would just be me knit picking.

I got a funny feeling that the phone in the image above (the one with the 4 really bad points) was either already abused or wasn't sealed at all at the factory. Maybe someone pressing hard on the screen due to the 'grounding issue' or something like that? If you press hard enough on the middle, the outside will eventually give - or the screen would crack...

The BlackBerry Storm (9530) was notorious for its leakage problems and dust under the glass. The leakage was fixed with a rubber gasket on the later models and the dust was fixed by applying some additional adhesive around the perimeter of the screen.

HTC will probably take care of the units that aren't abused by simply resealing the screens (maybe with some more aggressive tapes?) and adjusting the sensitivity of the screen so you don't feel like you have to 'press' it to make it work.

Again, mine has 2 very very very small light points at the bottom that are only viewable in a dark room so it's really not a big deal to me, but for those that have worse problems, I feel for ya!

I like how many people are returning phone under the assumption "It will get worse". Maybe it will, but then again, maybe it wont. Why risk getting a phone with a REAL problem that effects, well, anything? If it does get worse, or seperating sure, exchange it. But just seems alot of people are getting worked up over something minor thats not hurting anything - atm.

Thanks pretty informative. The phone is great but this SMALL problem is SUCH an annoyance honestly.

Wouldn't you rather be safe and exchange it knowing that the problem could eventually get worse?

I searched on Google, and ended up at this thread, because I'm wondering if I have any options here...

I did what you folks have described - I had some light leakage and figured, instead of just returning it because "It will get worse!", I'd wait it out and relax. I got a case and it covered the issue. Ive been very very happy with the phone for 3 months now!

But 2 weeks ago I noticed right above the home screen, I had 2 little "spotlights" shining up on to the screen itself. Pushing on the glass made it go away for a second. Hm.

Now, it's really really annoying. Anything above the home key is very washed out, making videos and pictures totally distracting because the lower left corner is always brighter than everything else.

Because I waited, I'm now outside of any 30 day warranty from Sprint (bought the phone on Sprint.com), but Im HOPING this can be fixed by HTC. I've emailed them and am waiting for a response.

Has anyone else had this issue - where light is leaking ON to the screen itself? I really love this phone, but I'm so angry that after switching from an iPhone and AT&T specifically for this, I even have the stress of worrying about if I'll get stuck for 2 years with a problem that's this annoying.

I don't think you have to worry. This is clearly a phone defect and not caused by you so HTC really have to cover it under warranty.

Why not use some superglue under the screen? Fix the issue yourself folks. Not that hard to do.

Curious if anyone has tried this. The bottom of my screen isn't flush...but it is nowhere near a worry stage. I won't be taking mine in for it unless it is something horrible as I've seen how great that works ("my new phone is worse, etc").

HTC will fix the issue for free. You will have to contact them 425-679-5318 and tell them the issue. They will then tell you that you will need to send in your phone (2-3 week turnaround) and they will fix it for free OR you can contact Sprint and you will get a refurb'd unit. I did just this and the refurb'd unit had light leakage as well. I ended up getting a Brnad New EVO thru Asurion (Sprint paid the deductible)

The phone has a one year warranty. The 30 days is just to return or exchange for a new one. After 30 days they will give you a refurb phone.

HTC devices are pure garbage. Honestly. They say nobody complains, yet virtually all of the devices are defective. Every EVO I have ever seen (roughly 12) have had light leakage. I think all phones have this issue and the people that say no, simply don't see it.

HTC gets away with making horrible products because by the time it catches up to them, they are on another device. The build quality of the Hero, for instance.

HTC sucks.

I have a very minor light leakage but it doesn't bother me at all. Hopefully it just doesn't get worst.

I have the same phone from day 1 and i did not have light leakage at all. I ended up getting a dead pixel. Then i noticed some very small cracks in the glass. I have never dropped it or put it in my pocket with keys, etc. I took it to sprint and they replaced the back lighting and replaced my screen all for free. Now i do have the light leakage at the bottom. If i press it down it will go away, but will eventually come back after a few minutes. Im prob going to bring it back and have them tighten it more as he prob did not tighten it enough.

Not only do I have light leakage at the bottom, I have light leakage about an inch from the bottom. Almost looks like it's burned in, a spec of light now always slightly shining from beneath and through the screenHave had phone since it came out. Didn't notice light leakage til after 30 day mark, didn't notice the more prominent light that seems to shine through until a couple of weeks ago. Sad.

I have leakage on the bottom and a little bit on the left side of the case. I can slightly move my screen also to cover the leakage, but when let go it moves back into it's original place. My Seidio 2 case covers all of the leakage fine, but lets just hope that this doesn't lead to a more serious problem.

Had some light leakage on right hand side of screen so took it into sprint today. They put a new screen on it as the tech said he sees it quite often. New screen is perfect with no raised edges and no leakage.

My hardware 0001, day one phone had light leak. I exchanged it at Best Buy for a Hardware 0003 and it does NOT have light leak.
