Root Restore

I don't think so. I know that the wimax keys won't work, and I wouldn't think that most of the rest of it would work either. I have not, however, tried it.

I'm sure certain parts of the backups would work though.

Yeah I wouldn't restore an entire back up but you can pull some stuff from your .imgs if you really want it that bad. Restoring a back up between phones is generally considered not to work but if you restore the right things I have heard of it working, like no wimax keys of course...you can pull data like contacts and stuff like that out of the back up...

What recovery did you use to make the backup (assuming we're talking about nandroid, since nobody actually said it)? You should be able to just remove the wimax.img, then remove any reference to it in any txt files in the backup. I know this will work with RA, but I'm not positive about CW. Otherwise, the rest of the images, *should* work fine. Look at it this way, if it doesn't work, it will likely fail immediately. If it does happen to fail part way through, the worst that can happen is your phone won't boot, and you'll need to just flash a ROM over it to fix it. Just make sure you do not try to restore anything with a wimax.img in it. You *will* lose 4g if it successfully flashes.

That being said, there *could* be things in the system.img that may not be agreeable flashing between phones. It should work, but take this as a warning. You *could* just flash whatever ROM a nandroid backup is of, then restore the data.img, only. That will probably be safer, and should (theoretically) work just fine.

Of course, if you want to do the safest, and, if nothing else, cleanest thing, just start over.
