Root Restoring after flashing custom ROM

I am running into problems restoring my phone after flashing the cyanogen mod.

I have a rooted Incredible; prior to flashing this, I was running stock 2.2. I also created a backup using Rom Manager.

I installed cyanogen but didn't like it, so I went through the steps to restore my phone using rom manager. However, this essentially did a factory reset -- none of my settings or data were saved. I was under the impression that a rom manager backup takes a picture of your phone such that everything is restored....is this not the case? And if it is, what am I doing wrong?

(I had previously backed up using both MyBackup Pro and Titanium Backup, but unfortunately not very recently.)

Thanks in advance for your help!

Yeah your nandroid should be a snap shot from when you did it. When I flash my stock backup it is from early december texts and call log.

Just a guess but maybe an error during the backup process. It does boot, correct? Have you tried flashing through recovery and not rom manager?

yeah, i tried both within rom manager and recovery. it seems to restore about 1/4 of my apps, but none of my settings are there. when it reboots, it goes directly into the setup that occurs when you first get your phone.

Using ROM manager could be the problem...
I do nandroid backups from Recovery and install new ROMs every week. I restore the backups if I don't like the new ROMs. It never fails this way.

so do you think the problem is that i did the backup via rom manager, or attempting to restore via rom manager?

i did do a restore in recovery, and got the same result (basically factory reset)...i actually had to do this because rom manager would force close (without an error message) every time i tried opening it.

Most likely ROM Manager didn't do a proper nandroid backup.
Simply avoid it next time.
