Return to latest Samsung stock

I've just received a Nexus 4 so will be selling my Galaxy S2.

I'm going to sell my phone to a recycling company and they've said that a rooted phone would be classed as non working, so I want to return my phone to the latest Samsung stock release.

I'm currently on Neat Lite LS8. Would I9100XWLPT_I9100XEULPA_XEU.zip this be the best ROM to flash? Can I un-root the phone? Is there any other advice anyone can give me?

Thanks

I've got the latest ICS firmware for the UK. I'll dig it out later.

Flash the .tar file in the PDA section of Odin. This will give you vanilla un rooted stock UK firmware. Now shoukd you need to reset the flash counter you'll need a USB jig and the old bootloader:

Flash the bootloader in Odin. Turn phone off, put jig in, turn phone on, flash counter is reset. Turn phone on and it will boot as new out if the box.

Enjoy your Nexus 4 :)

I'll be here until the s4 at least, unless something totally amazing arrives between March and the s4! Lol

And please, less of the rugby talk....for a change :-(

Thanks dyno. Your dropbox link gives a 404 error, any chance of reposting it?

Have had the Nexus for a few hours now and its looking goooood ;)

Thanks dyno, you're a star.

Just a quick question though. You mentioned earlier about flashing the .tar file. Is this located in the .zip file above? Do I flash the bootloader in the PDA section also?

The bootloader has it own section in ODIN, donot flash in the PDA section

Yes, extract the zip and there are two files the one you need to flash is the .tar.md5 (I9100XWLPT_I9100XXLQ6_I9100XEULPA_HOME.tar.md5) put it in the PDA section of ODIN. The other file is a .dll file, no idea what it is for, but you don't need it.

For some reason my phone isn't being recognised by my pc, therefore odin. Arrggghhh. I've enabled USB debugging, but it still wont connect. Any ideas?

Maybe the cable? Mine gets arsey if I use a non-original, replacement lead - it's ok for charging, and even dragging and dropping files across, but Odin prefers the proper one. (My previous Desire was exactly the same too!) :)

Is the PC recognising the phone at all? Does the cable work OK for other devices?

As for Mobile Odin I have't a clue, I would think it would, but would not be prepared to try myself and wouldn't recommend anyone else trying either without actually knowing.

Ive seen a youtube video of someone using mobile odin, but the comments dont inspire me.

The cable works in terms of powering the phone and works for data on my new phone. I had some problems with the USB port a while ago, which I thought were solved - obviously not!

If I were to just flash the firmware you linked above, through CWM, would that return the phone to what appeared to be an unrooted phone? Would it have the stock kernel?

I've reset the binary counter, so the triangle isnt an issue.

No CWM won't work the zip file is not a flashable one. You hsve to extract the md5 tar file and flash that. The best thing I can advise is to stick Odin on a USB stick along with the aforementioned md5 tar flashing file and borrow some one else's PC.

Just one other thought, is Kies running on your PC? If so shut it down Odin and Kies clash, but you need Kies installed for the drivers.

I've tried on 2 PC's (home and work), but no joy. I dont use Kies either.

The phone doesn't register that the USB cable has been plugged in, so my main thought is that its a problem with the contacts. This seems to be a common (?) problem if you google it. Theres a thread on XDA which says to clean it with contact cleaner, so I think thats what I'll try next.

Hopefully it'll work, cause I need the

There's a thread here about problems with the USB connecter. As for Kies I've never used it either, but I do have it installed.

Hello Dyno

I would like to restore my Samsung Galaxy S. Will these instructions work for my phone as well. I also would need more detailed steps since I am not skilled at this.
I have used oden to reroot? my phone when it was stuck is a boot loop. It worked so I have a little experience with oden and tethering.

Thanks
Robert

Do NOT attempt to use any of the above instructions on your Galaxy S, as they are for the Galaxy S2, International, GT-i9100, model and will not work on your phone. Since there are a number of U.S. Galaxy S phones, you will need to post your model number so that you can be directed to the correct forum to help you further.

we are all good. heirloomkayak has a thread going in the galaxy s forum already. thanx for posting the warning. much appreciated.

Thanks ironass.

I've not been around much (very poorly 4yr old son) so you probably saved a galaxy S and me grief by me not replying.

I've had no luck in connecting the phone to my PC. I've cleaned the port out, using electrical contact cleaner, but still no luck.

I see my only option as being to replace the micro USB port! However after looking around ebay I'm unsure which part would be best. The two options I see are this flex cable and this charging port part.

Does anyone know which would be best?

Cheers dyno. Im going to try it myself!!!! The part I need to remove 'looks easy' (roughly 10mins in).

Hopefully it wont go pear shaped :D
