Returning the gnex: Rezound or Razr?

Signal is bad on the Gnex currently, but I think it just needs a update. My dads charge is getting a way better signal than the gnex, in some cases..If I were bring the gnex back I would go with the rezound..

Rezound..i came from sprint and the evo 3d to verizon and rented the razr while waiting for the gnex. I hated the razr compared to my evo, and the rezound should be that much better. Love the gnex tho. I have great voice coverage in my area so I dont have a problem with the nexus, but i get better 4g speeds on the nexus compared to the razr, but your results may vary.

anyone wonder why the rezound lags so much, despite the dual core 1.5ghz processor?

all the ones i've played with lag, some not so much, some really bad.

i know it has sense skin, but it's got some serious hardware under the hood too.

Definitely the Rezound. I switched from the RAZR to the Gnex and I can tell you, the RAZR looks, feels, and performs like a last-generation phone. I feel a little bad for the people who bought into its hype (although from sales reports, not too many did.)

You seem to have got a bum Razr, since the Razr is faster than the Rezound. I have tested the heck out of both devices. None the less, both are good devices.

As far as the Rezound lag, turn off live wallpapers and it is much better. Also notice it better performing with Launcher Pro.

Added: The Gnex could get fixed with a software update. If not, the Razr and Rezound both have much better radio reception and will get ICS.

All depends on your preference for any of the devices.

Rezound wins hands down over the Razr. I tried both for a week.. radio on the razr ********.. worse than the Nexus. The rezounds was better than the nexus. I love my nexus but if I didn't I'd go with the rezound.

Locked bootloader and no permanent root yet are things to consider though if you're gonna switch to the rezound. Other than that the only downside is the thickness/design but it's not horrible.

no way on earth I'd pick the Rezound over either the Razr or the GNex! I've owned all 3 and have to say I'd roll in this order.

GNex
Razr

And that's it! I wouldn't even entertain the Rezound again. I'd much sooner change carriers and get a Galaxy S2 instead. I was a huge HTC fan....however, crappy battery life, long in the tooth Sense, and shotty build quality pushed me away. And after owning the Rezound I would have to say it felt like a Big Incredible, and in my use I noticed a lot of lag. Razr to me felt like a speed demon next to it. Like someone said, its all about having your own opinion.

I'm getting Gnex this week. Hopefully it doesn't disappoints me. But if it does, my other option would be Razr. The only thing Rezound got better seems like camera to me. I'm not fan of resource hogging Sense and poor battery life in most HTC phones.

I would say the Rezound. I read reviews on the Verizon site as well as other sites and was very impressed with the reviews of the Rezound. Most everyone loved the phone and there didn't seem to be very many complaints at all. I talked to a Verizon rep yesterday and asked them why the Razr had been so highly promoted over the Rezound (and for that matter the Nexus as well) and this was their response "every now and then you stumble across a "ninja" phone, one that just kind of sneaks up and proves itself to be far superior to others in the same market, and I really think that the Rezound is one of those!" and this is from a Verizon rep that is supposed to be promoting the Razr!! Still trying to decide on the Rezound or Nexus but I think after research and reviews it will be the Rezound.

I can't speak for the radio performance on 4G, but on 3G the Razr has the best reception I have ever seen on a cell phone. But I will probably get a Rezound anyways...720p is the way to go.

One thing I will point out I have discovered over the years is that I have seen 2 different (same model) phones get better or worse reception on wifi and 3G for no apparent reason. It may be little detailed differences attributed to the build, but no doubt I have seen it.

Sam, you ditching the Nexus?

I've been on the phone with Verizon this morning and suggested an option I haven't tried yet for poor home reception. Settings/more/mobile networks/system select/home. And put the phone on CDMA. Will give it a shot. I live in a donut hole where I'm in 4g extended but my Droid X never reported more than 1% loss of signal in battery check. Last nite after about 12 hours I had 18% loss of signal on the Nexus. Thankfully we have an extended return period. Maybe patience will pay off.

BTW, I did play with the Rezound at a Verizon B&M yesterday and like it. Definitely better signal numbers than my Gnex. Noticed no lag in Sense but the phone wasn't filled up with a buncha widgets and such. But this is a possibility. Or simply wait.

Razr radio is far better than the Nexus and on par, or a tad better than the Rezound. I have tested several of the devices to confirm. Did I read your wording incorrectly?

Radio reception is a key for me, so always test this out with devices. Also, most people do not use custom roms as a litmus for a device. The Razr is easily rooted and stays rooted, unlike the Rezound (for now).

The reception on the gnex is terrible. I had hope for a radio update, but I recently learned the gnex is using the same radio as the Charge. Users of the Charge attest to poor reception throughout the life of their phone.

I love everything about the phone besides its radio, which is a make or break issue. This phone is broken -- there's no two ways about it.

The question posed in the title is for everyone: hypothetically, or if you have returned the phone, which would you replace it with: the Rezound or Razr?

I actually get way better signal on my Charge then I do my GNex I'm hoping there'll be an update soon.

agreed again. i hated motoblurr on my bionic, and i've tried the camera on the razr too, which sucks equally as much as the bionic's.

the razr's screen is a disappointment for me as well. it's too dark, and too low of a pixel density.

moto released the razrmax phone in china at the same time, and will release it here soon too (first quarter 2012). the specs blow away the razr and will most likely leave razr customers feeling screwed like the bionic customers. does moto even have a PR dept?

The razrmaxx only has a higher mp camera and a better screen, I wouldn't call that blowing away the razr. Moto is just flooding the market with devices because they make minor upgrades and release something "new" a month later. Nobody is going to pay full retail if they upgraded already to get that minor increase. I mean look at the razr. All it is is a thinner bionic with a better screen.

Rezound without question. Reception is (duh) important but for me a non-removable battery is a deal-breaker. In fact, I'd stay with my Droid X if the Razr was my only alternative.

BTW, unless you live in a really bad coverage area or spend a lot of time therein, I'd consider swapping your Nexus out and see if the problem is the design as opposed to a bad model. I've had really good success with my Nexus, even in relatively lousy coverage areas (both call and data reception). Something to consider.
