Review of Nexus Vs. iPhone 4s

What do you guys think of this review this guy did?

Galaxy Nexus and Android 4.0 vs. iPhone 4S

The only think an iphone has over a nexus, superior build quality (The Best) and the camera...

Other wise the 4.6 beats out that teeny tiny 3.5...

GPU in the iPhone 4S is more than twice as fast, also greater storage on the iPhone 4S even if you have to pay extra for it.

oC wise, the iPhone 4S A5 powered chip is the most powerful of all the three phones. The iPhone 4S has a 800MHz dual-core Cortex-A9 based processor, while the Galaxy S2 has a 1.2GHz Exynos 4210 processor. The Galaxy Nexus has a 1.2GHz OMAP4460 SoC. The A5 inside the iPhone 4S packs a PowerVR SGX543MP2 GPU, which is the fastest powerful mobile GPU on the planet right now. While the ARM Mali-400MP GPU is not as fast as the PowerVR GPU inside the A5, it still is the fastest mobile GPU to be found inside an Android phone.

while your right, I am pretty sure ICS doesnt potentially need a faster one than the 4s. The reason for the 4s having that is based around IOS

correct me if I am wrong

No, iOS doesn't "require" a superior GPU. And ICS could certainly benefit from it. The reason the 4S has a faster GPU is because Apple chose a faster GPU for it. They have a huge number of 3D games available so they wanted to equip it with serious horsepower.

Google chose this CPU/GPU combination. We don't know all the details as to why, but it wasn't because ICS doesn't "require" it. It's because that's what they chose.

I think the screen size factor is incorrect. Most People THINK they don't want a bigger screen, until they get one. And the iPhone wins because more people buy it, and it has a refined OS that has hardly changed in 4 years? Hmm.

ah, ok seems strange then. Unless they predicted apple would release a slower version but were wrong.

or maybe samsung held back a bit so people are more interested in the S3 ?

I will be getting the prime - I hope it doesnt disappoint !

It's not really strange. It may be that they had supply problems for the Exynos, or there were rumors it wasn't functioning correctly with 4G LTE. Nobody knows, but the OMAP4460 is a very potent processor with a very good GPU.

we android users want the best tho !!! we have a bad enough time trying to prove what android is capable of doing.

as the 4s is clocked at 800mhz and I have read the OMAP4460 will actually be clocked at 1.2 - would this not beat the 4s in benchmarks ?

In some benchmarks, it will. In some, it won't. It depends on what you're testing - the GPU of the iPhone is more powerful, the CPU is less powerful. A graphically intensive benchmark will favor the iPhone, a number-crunching benchmark will favor the Nexus.

Benchmarks don't mean much, though. How your phone operates on a day-to-day basis is what is important. I'd say all of the videos of the Nexus have shown it to be a screamer of a phone.

I am not making a decision until I can test them side-by-side. I thought about the 4S, but it is just so small. I am not sure if 4.65" is too big for a phone, but the 4S is the same size as my OG (roughly). I want it a little bigger unfortunately (keep sexual puns out).

Cool, thanks

Galaxy SII is 1.5GHZ not 1.2

I think my big toe knows more about Android and ios than the author of this article. I get aggravated when reading tech articles that are obviously people talking out of their butts. Kinda like the Engadget guy who did the hands on video, seemed like that was the first time he had ever picked up an Android phone.

I really want to know what the 4.6 feels like in my hand with it being quite a bit larger than the average phone.
Pick up a Droid X. It's not much larger than that. It fits the bigger screen in by having less bezel and having the buttons as part of the screen.

It's still a good 10mm taller, though, and will be balanced differently. Much differently than the DX, actually, since the DX weight/hump is on the top, and the GNex has its weight/hump on the bottom.

I will be interested to see how it sits in the hand once I get one.

I wonder how the article in OP did review on Nexus when it's still not released yet. Looks like they are just stating their opinion from Nexus spec.

IMO, iPhone4S is very good and easy to use phone with good camera. But its build quality is somewhat questionable. It looks and feels good for sure, but when it's dropped it shatters so badly. So it's no wonder most folks put iPhone4 in thick case. If Nexus is like SGS2 in build quality, it should be more drop proof than iPhone4S I think.

As for camera, I'm not bothered by some bad shots on Nexus demo video. Things like that happen in demo when used roughly by people. I saw even iPhone4 takes crappy shots many times. I will look for Nexus camera tests done carefully and thoroughly once it's released. So far samples look pretty good.

for most this doesn't matter but to me it does....

4S has better international capability. We don't know if the LTE version of the G Nex will also be international....like the RAZR is. At least VZW has confirmed that after 60 days of good service they'll unlock the international SIM in the 4S so it can be used with sim cards overseas. ....which has my eye

Here's my concise review....

iPhone: Pioneered app drawer for today's Android devices, including Nexus.

:-)

I don't really get too much into hardware because for me it's all about the end product.... If its smooth, fast, and reliable then I don't really care if the clock speed is faster or slower than the next guy's/gal's. IMHO it seems people are comparing apples and oranges (pun?), when talking solely about clock speeds on 2 different platforms. Even bench testing may not be all that accurate when crossing platforms. There is a lot more to a piece of hardware than just a processor as well....

Yessir!

The end product is all ANYONE should care about. Unfortunately, people get too caught up in the numbers and don't see the forest for the trees, to use the cliche...
