Root Revolutionary: S-OFF problem

Im just going through the process but every time i run Revolutionary it pops open for a sec then closes:( is this a scam to get my serial number or somthing ?? can anybody tell me what i should do .iv installed the htdrivers 3.0.0.007
now im at the rev stage but it keeps closing. can anybody give any tips ????

NOW I GOT IT TO STAY OPEN BY CLOSING HT SYNC. but it keeps saying wrong key..grrrrrrr

Rastaman can you tell me what advantage this gives me...i started trying to unlock it with the dos window saying buy me a beer.. it said it worked..popped in an o2 sim an its asking for the unlcok code so that never worked.. then i did the revolution thing an that gave me s off but thats it...so what would you recommend as the best way to root my desire,,can you please post a chap a link...iv been trawling this site for the past 4 days.. iv got a feeling i wont be happy till iv bricked me blower. i want the cyanogen rom installed..i did update today to 2.3 an that worked ok...as u can tell im a noob to all this but man have i done some reading in the past few days :) now i just want to be able to test new os on my phone. to maybe speed it up give me better bat life an look cool. cheers Rastaman. peace out !!!
 
S-off is not unlocking your phone. What research did you do to get to this point?

What is your ultimate goal here?

Hey u are some real helpful geezers :) usually u get told to use the search box.. believe me iv done a lot of that..
ok as u told me what u want from me ill break it down. An it goes a lil something like thissssss.
First i wanted to unlock the desire so i can use any sim, iv always had to pay for that privilege before so when i seen you could do it for free i was on it, but it never worked.
Then i looked into rooting the Desire to give me root level access If i remember the first thing you have to do before rooting is get S-OFF right ?? So i did the Revo process an it gave me S-OFF, cool. what i did not like is the pink bit at the top saying Revo"""""""", Anyway so i want to have my own boot screen as when i updated to 2.3 it removed the 3 one which was crap btw an now its just the green HTC, Real boring.
I seen one showing this blue an red x with like power waves fluxing into it an it looks pretty cool so that was the first reason to root.
then i though well why not try some diff ROMS to see how i like them as the HTC os is a little boring.
I am a little worried that i may do something wrong an screw my blower so i held back last night as i started to download all sorts of things to get the job done, so im now ready to go agin but i want a proper easy method an all the files to get it done in one go, Im sure u guys can give me a method that will be done with the least amount of wisdom an mouse clicks. Not that im lazy just Im very new to this but have been a pc wizkid, ish :) for the past 20 years. well not so much a kid im 40 :)
Anyway yea so that's it I know the Desire has been worked on so much in the dev world so i think there must be a simple way to do it. last night i ended up in a terminal window and i did not have a clue iv never used any other system bar windoze. so chaps wat ya reckon, can you help a biped out ;) cheers fellas. much appreciation !!!!!!!
 
also is it ok to use unrevoked 3 to root if i have used revolutionary to so-ff ?????
sorry that should of been an edit. i goofed.
one more thing is this the correct file to use "HTC Desire – Froyo MR – 2.6.32 kernel source code" to get me back to the original stock rom ??? you just click an run these from your desktop right.
if that is not the correct file from the HTC dev page whitch one is it ??? I wonder if there is a uk Three stock rom ?????
 
wow ok you have alot of expectations.

first off you have s-offed your device, this doesnt give you root but makes rooting possible.
you cannot used unrevoked as you flashed the DEV 2.3.3 RUU. if you had read the revolutionary guide you should flash recovery then download and flash superuser zip via recovery.

so in essence what you need to do is the following.

use this to unlock your device to all networks HTC Desire SIM-Unlock Utility - xda-developers
once that is done then you need to flash recovery.
I would recommend flashing AmonRA if you dont know what your erase size is (in the tools thread in my signature)
boot to fastboot use android flasher from xda-developers.com to flash recovery if you do not know how use fastboot commands.
once done you can boot to recovery (voldown+power) and backup the device.
Choose a rom of choice on XDA, follow the instructions for the rom and flash it
if you want to stay with the current rom but have it rooted then you can flash the superuser zip from revolutionary
 
ok for some reason the unlocker worked this time. With o2 sim no signal an voda is working. not got any other sims to test but only wanted voda as i can slap a 5iver on it an also get weekend free :) now into looking at this root thing eeek.

just everything working nice. no force stop crap. good bat life, nice skins an themes. an slick widgets all themed an overall good experience. Also a rom that is a clone of iphone 4 just to piss my mates off :) but that will be a temp thing. iv seen, is it myui or somthing. iv also seen cyanogenmod but i dont know about that one or which is the latest ver. can you recommend one with a utube link so i can see it working ? thanks suroot ;)
iv just been looking at the cymod website an it looks very nice im a music maker an hifi head. always looking for apps for making music an nice eq an stuff..i see cymod has eq's an compressor, an filters built in . hmmm
 
Thanks for the poweramp tip now that looks like what im after..looks like eq's there.. an a whole world of stuff...nice one...iv got a copie of that an never thought to install it. i got a disk of a pal with loads of stuff on it... btw do u no of any good music making apps..like a good synth. iv got the 808/909 sample loader drummachine that when pluged into my amp sound a beast lol..honestly i never thought a phone could sound so good :) just need Ableton now for Android an im set. also im in the process of rooting..ill let yall no how it goes. gulp !!!
 
problem guys !!! when i run the rev tool to s-off i never clicked yes to run the clockworkmod thing. I just ran the rev tool agin an this time when i click yes to download an install it fails an says canotdownload fial fail fail... what sould i do..i loaded up the boot screen an ran a recovery to see what happens..it shows a drive icon is it ? then is shows a phone icon with a red triangle an a red ! . so i guess somthing has gone wrong right..can u fellas advise me what to do next ???? i no the whole procedure now to root im doing it this way xxx.youtube.com/watch?v=kvg0i8in96M so its easy to do...just im not sure i should proceed where im at at the moment... thanks guys . peace !!!
ok i got it now..i needed to mount the phones sd on connection. durr.. next step zip file..gulp
Ok so far so good. fewwwww heart was in me gob thinking im gona wreck me new blower...so im ROOTED :) SUCCSES !!!!!! It realy is simple to do following that vid... thanks to you 2 guys an thanks to the maker of that vid.. now the next part install CM.7 HMMMM
 
Now use my fastboot faq (not the adb stuff) to flash teh recovery of your choice, which you should do anyway as you dont want the recovery that comes bundled with revolutionary.


Is your device PVT4 (check hboot screen)?
 
Just because if it is PVT4 and erase size 40,000 I cannot recommend cwm 2.5.0.7.

As you are not PVT4, I can.

So yeah I recommend picking either CWM 2.5.0.7 or Amon-RA 2.0.1

You can download either of these from the ultimate tioolbox in my sig. Dont forget you need the password from the thread, towards the end.
 
anyway so im ready to go to put on CM7..can you please give a link to the whole process as your page has so much stuff on it i dont know were to start. is this where it gets hard now ??? i aint got a clue what to do...i dont even no how to remove that revo recovery thing.
Also iv ran the titanium-bp an yep im rooted..cheers guys your have inspired me to go through it all.
 
Did you download one of the recoveries I recommended?

You need to read the adb and fastboot faq, but skip the adb stuff as its irrelevant. Its only a little bit of info.

I will NOT give you a step by step. I expect you to be able to work it out from the FAQ. if you cant, you shouldn't be doing it IMHO. Sorry.
 
SU i did not want a step by step bro... just a link to one, thought u may of had one, u wrote before.. as u have a ton of stuff on your page...remember su we all have to start somewhere. im pritty tec savy just aint a linux user.
I got this far unlocked an rooted so i aint doing bad. thing is bro theres that much stuff on here an it can waist a lot of my dongle time. yep im running a dongle :( need to pay my sky bill. mofo's just as BF3 came out they cut me off..grrrrr im sure i can find a vid but that kills me credits. thats why iv been a lil needy. only got a few megs left. piggybank "O" u get the picture. but thanks anyway pal.
I aint got the recoveries yet as i dont know how to wipe the other one of yet. iv got to be carefull what i download but the good thing about android is most of the stuff is tiny :) ill keep you both posted with my adventure an ill flag a pic ov my screen what ever i get... hope i aint showing you a boot screen!
 
That's what I mean a link is the same thing. Just read the faq. Copy paste into note pad to save your credits. This stuff you need to know.

Hint. Flashing something replaces what was there previously
 
Su is my phone running clockwork mod now ?? is that the recovery program installed when i used revolutionary? been reading your faq. i just need to put the image of what ever rom i want onto a clean sd card an select it using the recovery thing i did in the root process right? but you guys recommend changing the recovery program that revolutionary installed? to is it amonra. have i got this right pal so far?
 
You have cwm 4.x but cwm 2.5.0.7 is much more stable. Use that or amonra.

No you don't put it on sd. You fastboot flash it from a pc like the faq says
