*Rezound ICS OTA is live Thread*

I thought the Rezound rooting seemed really daunting too, which is why I just read a ton, and gave myself plenty of time. Like I posted above, this is how I did it:

Notice I link to a bunch of different forums; I just picked out the ones I found most helpful. I been told what I did is way overkill (especially because I stayed on gb for a day for my own reasons), but that is how I felt comfortable with my limited knowledge, and it really wasn't hard. And man, once I was running chingy's ics Rom it was so worth it. So read what I did (including that guide on ac forums I link to), read Scotty's guide in this forum, figure out what is easiest to follow, then go for it. And start a thread over in the all things root section when you get started if you want a place to ask questions as you go along. :)

Overall it sure seemed better to me than waiting for the OTA.

I rooted my Rezound quite some time ago in the pursuit of battery life. Though I might just consider installing ICS. I understand "These things take time", but this is getting downright RIDICULOUS. Starting to feel like I own yet another one of those phones that promises are made for and left behind. At this rate we'll get ICS when jellybean is mainstream!

THIS is why we need an open phone market, get rid of so-called subsidies and get the prices of phones down to EARTH. I can buy a 10" tablet for $400 and you're telling me my phone is $650? There's some serious markup and BS going on. How much you want to BET VZW gets our phones for a solid $100-150 less than we pay for them? Wouldn't be surprised at ALL. Not to mention, CHOICE. If you know your Carrier is GSM or CDMA or both that's all you should need to know. With the DATA getting pushed so hard now, I wouldn't doubt if carriers are looking to 86 cellular all together and move to VOIP. Grasping at straws here obviously, but this is what's going through my mind...
 
Wow...those instructions to root are borderline Mandarin Chinese! :confused: I too rely on my phone, and can't possibly risk bricking it. Now...rooting and loading the latest leaked ICS are two different things, right?

Right, installing the leak is not the same as rooting. It is is just manually installing the stock operating system - you will not have root access to your phone by installing it.

My advice for using Scotty's advice is to NOT read it before rooting. As counter-intuitive as that sounds, the instructions only make sense when instructions are being implemented. Although I would include more detail if I were writing it, it's still not as bad as it looks.
 
I'm starting to hate the carriers and manufacturers...

Here we are STILL waiting for the official OTA for ICS to come out and BAM, by the time we get it, it's already friggin obsolete. So dumb.
 
I wouldn't call it "obsolete." More like "just within spec." Once 4.0 is rolled out, any subsequent updates *shouldn't* be that big of a deal. It's almost an entirely new platform, so the road will be paved for JellyBean. But I'm still ticked about Sense 4.0 not being "compatible."

While on the topic, can anyone running an ICS leak tell me about the paginations on the home screen and app drawer? I DESPISE the scrolling stops in the app drawer, and LOATH the spinning homescreen issue.
 
Lots of good info from so many folks in this forum. To load the leaked ICS or not to load... It really does suck when one of the top stories on Phandroid is the fact that the G Nexus will be getting Jelly Bean this month. Niiiice. If I'm not mistaken, the Rezound was released more or less at the same time, was supposed to be "ICS ready", blah, blah, blah. Instead, here we are 7 months later running GB on a phone that should have been running ICS from the drop. Rezound...the red headed stepchild.:(
 
Question about ICS - will it give us control over which apps are running as services (and better yet, which ones automatically start on phone power-up)? I can't stand it when I check my running apps and keep seeing Slacker listed on there...

You know, I don't know if the app drawer paginations are standard with the leak or not... On chingy's Rom it is an option to choose if you want it to or not. Same with the spinning home screen. Also, newt's Sense 4 Rom is pretty awesome if you want sense 4. Seriously, you all are doing yourself a disservice by not rooting.

And re: jelly bean... because of manufacturer skins and carrier testing/bloat, it is just the nature of open-source android that you will not have Google's latest release unless you buy an unlocked, GSM Nexus device.

(FWIW, I think Verizon is much more to blame for the delayed ota than HTC: I think that "accidental" page recently on HTC's website saying our official ics update was ready was their way of telling us that they've had it ready for awhile, it's vzw holding things up...)

I know a watched pot never boils, but if the ICS OTA isn't out by this weekend, I've about had it with Verizon. The latest leak was apparently bug-free and ready-to-go, don't know what the holdup is. I am hopeful that our awesome ROM developers can take us up to Jelly Bean after the ICS OTA, with its new firmware and radios, comes out. The Jelly Bean SDK is now online.
 
Yeah, this is pretty ridiculous. Everyone's talking about how great JellyBean is and we're still waiting on ICS.

If I remember correctly, you would only want to install the leak if you were rooted and S-OFF. I don't know if the newer leaks were given an earlier version number than the official OTA update coming, but I remember that being an issue for one of the earlier leaks.

Rooting is nothing compared to the S-OFF procedure. Talk about scary! I bumbled my way through the rooting steps using Scott's guide and several other ones. I've got CleanROM installed, and I've been very happy. Really, that's all you need to enjoy ICS until the official OTA update comes out. I know the leaks are getting better, but you never know what kind of bugs they still have. Plus, you'll have no problem reverting your phone back to GB with just a rooted phone and custom ROM installed, so you can install the official OTA update.
 
Damn the RUU is over 600mb! Does all of that get loaded on the phone? I am wondering how much of that is bloat. It's no wonder V is taking so long to get ICS out. With all the crap they have thrown in there's gotta be some compatibility issues.

Yeah, it's huge (partly Verizon's stuff, but mainly because Sense is enormous) -- remember it is the whole thing, not just an update like the OTA will be (that's why it will wipe your phone).

Pull the trigger last night and updated with the leaked version. WHY DID I WAIT?? Its like a new phone! My dropped 4g issues are finally gone!

So if I load up the latest leak, that has all the updates from all the previous leaks as well? Like it's the latest and greatest of everything without me having to upload all of them?

I really want ICS and it seems like this is the only way I'll get it, so screw it, let's do this.

Yeah that makes sense. I think I may pull the trigger tonight. Is there any way to get back to GB if I need to? Would a GB RUU do that and does one even exist?

So a GB RUU does exist, but you can't run it unless you are s-off. So if you install the leak without rooting/s-off, you can't go back.

I can't think of reason why you would ever want to go back (but if you come up with a reason we'll hold your hand through the s-off process over in the all things root section). :)

Correct, the latest leak has all the features and bug-fixes of the previous leaks.

Yeah, like they said, its a full version of the software, not an update. It has all the new radios and stuff from the previous leaks. Finally got to install chrome, etc....its just a joy. After 7 months of waiting, HTC's announcement that they're committed to Jellybean makes me want to punch someone in the face.
