Root Rezound Root Guide

Right now I am just wanting to root so that i can use wifi tether...i see some people saying temp root is pointless but would it be ok if all i want to do is tether right now?

Wireless tether seems to be hit or miss, but many have reported it working. You can also backup/restore apps if you're rooted, so that's a plus.

I'm making this post to share some of my experiences trying to root my Rezound. I have overcome some obstacles relative to this technique that I'm sure some of those new (and maybe not so new) to rooting may encounter and as such have had to tweak it some because of those issues. As it turns out if this method will work for you it will be faster. I have quite a bit of experience with Androids as I worked for Verizon for some time and had a rooted OG Droid I just finally retired for this new bad boy but he seems to be a little temperamental when it comes to being rooted and my procedure has been a bit different but I have finally been successful and am posting this from my laptop victoriously tethered to my Rezound and it's FAAAST only on 3G too. Even for all the trouble this is well worth doing guys!

Firstly, Sync. It just doesn't work for me no matter what I do. My phone doesnt recognize Sync on my computer Sync on my computer doesn't recognize my phone as being connected. If you look on HTC's support website there isn't even an option to pick the Rezound at the time of this post so goodluck with that. My only solution is:

1. Mount as DISK DRIVE and turn USB Debugging ON

2. Run Doomlord one-click

~Possible Errors~

"adb server is out of date... killing..."

-ADB is a debugging bridge needed to make computers see your HTC phone. Sync running will cause this error and make one-click go in to an endless loop of telling you adb is out of date and killing it. It does this because the Doomlord file comes with its own ADB which tries to kill Sync's but everytime it does Sync just restarts it in the background every couple seconds. It even does this if you open Task Manager and stop ADB.exe.

~Possible Fix~

Only way I got it to stop was by right clicking the ADB.exe in Task Manager and opening location which takes to straight to HTC Sync's file. Copy that location in a text document so you can throw the ADB.exe in there later if you want and then just drag it to your desktop.
Or you could just never d/l Sync.

DON'T SCOURE GOOGLE LOOKING FOR ADB SERVER UPDATES! You'll end up d/ling all kinds of unnessecary crap needed by devs only. Current ADB is present in your files. Error is just the Doomlord ADB fighting Sync's version.

3. I have to toggle USB debugging on/off occasionally while this runs as it will freeze temporarily during rooting and not recognize my device. Only do this if it freezes.

4. Do it over and over if it doesn't work

Since I fixed the adb error Ive ran this about 8 times... had success twice. With the error I did it about 20 times. At the end of it Doomlord tries to restart your phone if it's successful sometimes. Sometimes my phone goes into an endless cycle of rebooting and I have to battery pull. Sometimes it just stays black and never turns on and I have to battery pull. Mostly it just never reboots and you toggle USB and it tries to push files and fails. One time it worked and I had Wireless Tether and Superuser running with my laptop logged on but TB didn't recognize me as having root. Later when trying to brag about rooting and having hotspot it was unrooted but my phone hadn't been turned off... go figure.

After just many many attempts I now have root; phone's has been asleep and then awoke and root was still there now finally TB recognizes root. Just keep plugging away at it if you don't get it at first it's so worth it and so fast!

Hope this helps somebody. Happy rooting and enjoy your awesome phones!

Thanks for all the hard work. So you're saying with this method when you power the phone off and power it back on it keeps the root or are you saying that when the phone's screen times out and times back on that the Root is still there?

Has anyone tried the new Super One-Click? It just dropped a day or two ago and I don't have the ability to try it at work..

Ive tried downloading the htc sync drivers from the websites, and I cant get my phone to notice its on the computer, is this a problem?

ok, so I have done this 3 or 4 times and everytime titanium backup says no root (this is the first time I have EVER tried root). I followed the steps to the letter, nothing, what could I be doing wrong?

ETA, I found another way to get temp root that is very stable, hotspot, TI works, adfree and have deleted most of verizons bloatware.

By the time you find a permanent root, ICS will arrive and you'll have hordes of users wanting to root THAT. I onlysay this because a Verizon rep told me today that when it comes out for the Razr, Bionic, Rezound, Charge, etc. it will be completely unlocked and, with the exception of HTC phones, completely Vanilla. Of course, that is probably a lie someone came up with to discourage people from returning their new phones for the Galaxy Nexus, and I don't trust Verizon reps any more than I trust Washington. Just thought I would throw that out there. But the good news... my spare battery was half price for me. Go figure.

Every time my phone turns off and usually if it goes to sleep I loose root. I keep one-click on my laptop and now almost everytime the first time it turns off my phone and reboots with no root so then i run it again and there's root...2 time process that has worked everytime. less than 5 minutes for unlimited tethered data... wish it'd stick but can't complain

got word from a buddy that still works at verizon that the rezound will be the first to get the ICS update of the pre nexus phones... most ppl i know in the industry including myself feel like the rezound is still better than the nexus galaxy... dont trade in your rezounds- if you want ICS you will get the update sooner than anyone

Well HTC & VZW are allowing Rezound users to use the htc/dev unlocker now, you just have to agree that your warranty will be voided when you use it.

You will be unlocked but will not have S-off. :)

How would vzw know you rooted though? If you unrooted...
