Root Ripping/Using DEFAULT Lock Screen?

I'm using FroShedYo v10, and I'm not a big fan of the "left to right" unlock gesture. I was a big fan of the default vertical unlock gesture, and the HUD that displayed the SMS I had just received.

How would I go about retrieving that?

PS, I'm sick of the horizontal gesture suggesting I have an a IPhone....

It's all in what you like, I guess. One of the reasons I dislike the Sense-based ROMs is that I dislike the pull-down unlock screen (though after using xtrSENSE and xtrROM for a while, it wasn't all that bad.)

You could install a lockscreen replacement app, like LockBot or WidgetLocker (which is a possible fix for the messaging issue you mentioned), or you could switch back to a sense based ROM. Even if you are not a Sense launcher fan, xtrROM or Tainted Tenzo are excellent ROMs.

CELB Froyo and GSB (and perhaps others) have other options. I really like feel of the rotary unlock mechanism in GSB.

You can't use a Sense lockscreen in a vanilla ROM - it just won't work.

If you use the rotary lockscreen, you can set the pulldown to open a specific app, so you can pull down to open messaging if you wish. I use it to open gmail myself.
