Help RMA Refunded?

To those who have gotten an RMA replacement from Google, how did it work monetarily? What I assumed is that the original charge stayed on there, and that a hold was placed on my account when the new one was shipped.

After requesting an RMA (have yet to receive the email from the RMA department), the original price has been completely wiped from my bank account. There's not even a purchase and refund notated. Just nothing.

How on earth does this work? What happens if I cancel the RMA? Free phone?

I just don't get why they would completely wipe the charge when I have the item.
