I really love the built in animations and the way he replaced android green with blue everywhere, but if I don't see some improvement in the next 3 days then it'll be back to deck for me.

Seriously why won't set cpu let me set over 1ghz?
 
Stock htc kernels have whats called "perflock" which locks it down. Setcpu can try to "crack" it but i've never been successful with that.

If flashing a custom kernel doesn't mess things up roll with it, if it does nand back and try out an earlier PRI. I had issues with the 1.90_003 PRI, I downgraded to the 1.77 PRI and it solved my issues. I'm on the latest, whatever that number it is, and It runs great for my phone.

Just remember if you try it, flash the corresponding NV as well. Only flash one per recovery session, and what ever you do don't pull the battery while it does it's thang. These are along the same lines as radios and could seriously bork things if you do. ;)
