Root [Rom][5-26-12]Broken Out Spectrum 3.0 w/ Blitzkrieg Kernel

Thanks for reminding me, I updated my signature! Been a while... The EvenLess is a smaller footprint variant of MT's Broken Out, there is an EvenLess for every version of Broken Out, I starts a minimal and an EvenLess version because I wanted not just a tiny Rom, but also a customized one.

a little background explanation:
I moved to the Spectrum from the Original HTC Evo, with only 512MB of ROM, so I constantly had to trim things out to make sure there was enough room to be able to install apps. Because of that when I first purchased the Spectrum and rooted, and installed Broken Out, I started picking out the included apps that I don't want or don't need.

EvenLess is Broken Out, minus almost every file not necessary to run the phone. I have another page devoted to what I've tried removing, and any side effects of doing so. I have posted on my download site a zip of what I removed from BrokenOut (and added to it) for each Broken Out version, to make it "EvenLess"

It is mostly file removal (not just apps), but there are somethings I added in, like a different launcher, different web browser (until we get Chrome with ICS, I don't like the stock one and the one I include is a smaller .apk), I remove most of the extra audio files on the phone (the next version I will remove some more I have found to be useless), remove the keyboard support for languages other than english. Also I removed live wallpapers and several apps and files that are leftovers from Google testing and are not actually called as part of the current OS, ever (some are only used in Android versions <1.6, but are still included in the package given to the phone manufacturers, who never remove them either).

At first I also removed all the bluetooth files, because I don't use it and they add up to a significant amount of space if you hunt down every bluetooth related setting file. But I put it all back in as I figured that would alienate too many users and you cannot add bluetooth or a substitute back in using the market!

The main idea is to give you the maximum amount of System space available for you to add what you want to make it your phone. My current version, based off Broken Out v3.0 has a zip file size of 161.1MB. For a comparison, Broken Out v1.0 was 220.9MB zipped and Broken Out v3.0 is sitting at 214.7MB. My original Goal was to try and hit 150MB or less. (I can, if I remove Bluetooth and all audio files). after installing BO EvenLess v3.0 I have 755MB of free System space and 1.61GB of free user space.

I have not created a unique Rom, nor given this Rom variant an official thread, because I do not feel it classifies as a different Rom, more of a "fork" than anything else. (not that anyone else will ever see it, but I actually install a monster 823.8MB version of EvenLess on my phone including every single app I want on my phone, including the paid apps I have purchased and use, because I am too lazy to reinstall all 132 of them! I then use titanium backup to restore the settings by doing data only restores in batches. There was a time when I had over 250 apps installed, but then I bought a Nook Tablet and I keep most of them on the Nook instead as they look better on the bigger screen)

Bah, I have to get up in 3 hours... I'll type some more later...

If you have more questions, feel free to start a thread to ask them, I don't want to fill up MT's Rom thread with posts about EvenLess. I check the forums 0-5 times a day, but not less than once per 3 days :) Depends on if I get to get out of the house, and if my wife drives where ever we are going...

WHOA long answer man (no complaints) in fact i thank ya for the detailed answer. Just got the spectrum couple weeks ago so checked on what i could do with it because i used to have a droid x and it rocked with the roms and support only no unlocked bootloader(U suk moto) unfortunetly there is only 2 roms for this device as i know of even though this is one of the most powerful devices(not including the galaxy s3 which is coming out soon.

anyway thanks for the answer :D:D:D:D:D

btw why a nook tablet .. u probably know this but the asus transformer just came out with the quad core processor .. i didnt buy it yet but i heard it is a beast although some of the reviews said that it was iffy

oh and last thing, i dont want to fill this thread. should i somehow make a careless mistake and flash the v4 nandroid to get back on stock or use any kind of nandroid(because ive been reading that non-touch cwm dosnt handle nandroids correctly) onto say my spectrum.. what would happen should i do it and would it lead to a unrecoverable brick or just wont work?

thanks and last question for today;)

I'd love it if you released your version of BO. That is if mt is ok with it

Hey MT!!!

What are the advantages of upgrading to this from 2.0?

In my experience so far, speed. My phone is more responsive than it has ever been. It also has some better UI elements that I find very pleasing. As always, the hotter it gets outside, and it is damned hot out here, the more likely I am to get reboots (this also happened on my Incredible and Droid X) but otherwise I have noticed no overheating or reboots.

Personally, the launcher and stuff don't matter to me as I always install Go Launcher anyway, but the current one is clean and quick, from the half hour or so I used it just to see what was up. :)

Two things here,
First the "new" transformer is a watered down version of the prime, if you buy one watch out for the model number. They are selling a chapter model to compete better with the kindle fire. That is why done of the reviews are so so... Everyone was expecting something better than the prime.

Second, it is the cheapest dualcore available of some level of quality (I got one on Craig's list, a guy bought it for his mother for Christmas, then she did not need/want it) and picked it up for $175. Rooted and loving it, just wish it had a version of clockwork (as far as I know they have not been able to unlock it, out gave up and use the SD boot method and don't care) out made my HTC Evo 4G look like a Fisher price toy with the performance of it. (jelly defense and Jenga would run so show on my Evo it would freeze up and need a battery pull, the nook plows through both like Roger Clemens pitching to teenagers)

I live in tx and i have the cpu master pro widget my temp hit 128 and i never had a reboot(yet) have had 2 issues tho,1 adobe flash player isnt working and 2 sometimes my internet stops(4g) but a reboot usually fixes it(love how fast it loads)

Had some weirdness happen after flashing to 3.0. I reinstalled IncrediControl to work with the Kernel in the BO and the only thing it would show me was SVS. I was not able to control the CPU. After installing the Popcorn kernel vers 2.0 I got CPU back as well as SVS. Is there a reason to go back to the Blitz kernel and what should I use to control the CPU?

MT included "NO FRILL CPU CONTROL" in the apps on version 3.0...
easy to use. seems to hold settings better than Antutu...
check it out...hope this helps.

I have not had any reboots nor screen freezing, sitting at 90% after almost 4 hours off the charger with decent use. Here is my set up

Wiped data
Flashed rom
Use and download apps as I need them

I do not restore data from anything, rom toolbox, titanium backup, etc. I do not use jd or any other scheduling app etc. Daily use I average 18-20 hours battery at 1.8GHz with 2+ hours screen on time and 1-2 hours phone use.

MT - agree with you. This is my experience as well. The 3.0 rom seems to be the most stable yet. Maybe some of the issues that others might be having come from the fact that the did not "WIPE DATA!" as your instructions indicated. After flashing, I wiped dalvik as well for good measure. This ROM is a beast. It says that you added some user control for voltage - not sure where that is ... will keep looking. Thanks for your work on this - donation sent.

Well crap! I saw that and thought that that was the version I had installed before then uninstalled and didn't download and install because the other app more people recommended....Should I go back to the Blitz kernel or stay on popcorn? I think I will go back to NO FRILL and stay with that.

I didn't see this in the release notes for 3.0, but is bluetooth working now? Pairing would crash in 2.0 so I rolled back to 1.3 w/OTAblock and the phone is very stable and peppy. I'd like to roll up to 3.0 but bluetooth is pretty important for me. TIA.

Download incediControl to undervolt more.

But how much more??? My IncrediControl is at 192 for the lowest and then 1836 for the high. To make sure not to kill my phone, I clicked one click lower on SVS just to make sure not to cause issues. What has everyone determined to be the best low and high SVS on their phones??

I would love that while my phone is just sitting there quiet, that it would just hit the lowest setting and stay there till I wake it up

Recommend you go to version 3.0 with blitz and the no-frills CPU app - it is as near to perfect, stable cpu control as you can get...and in the past versions, changing CPU control with other apps - caused the phone to reboot sometimes for me - and then, the new settings would not "hold"...hope this helps.

It seems to work perfectly for me now in 3.0 - where in 2.0 it was bad to non-existent...got my fingers crossed it stays working....

so far so awesome. i am getting much better battery life. no reboots or screen freezing. also went back to Launcher Pro. did not wipe data. i think it comes down to what apps you have installed and if it will crash. i had issues back on BOv2 with zram always rebooting. disabled it, never crashed again. but not i have it enabled with zero issues.

Have 3 flashed, installed popcorn kernel, is there a place where I can get and reflash the Blitz kernel?

Hmmmm....are you sure? V3.0 replaces the kernel during install to Blitzkrieg on mine - go to Settings --> About Phone --> Software Information..

Under Kernel version - what does it say?

You would be correct. I flashed V3 and then installed popcorn 2.0 after flashing

KV is 2.6.35.14PopcornKernel-v2.0

I'll also say this, I did notice the partial screen sleep mode before going to popcorn and now on popcorn I don't have that issue.....
