Root [ROM][9/12/2010][GPL] xtrSENSE4.2 & 4.5[cache2cache,apps2sd,oc,jit,flash10]-HTC Sense

First things first after you install the one click eris root application you need to flash the rootme.zip and reboot your phone. After that, uninstall the eris one click root application. Next, I suggest running another nandroid backup. Then you need to do a wipe of your phone and I'm not sure about everyone else but I also wipe my Dalvik Cache as well. After that, flash the xtrROM4.2 zip file and reboot your phone. You then shouldn't have any problems what-so-ever running the ROM. I'm not sure if your phone is actually rooted unless you flash the rootme.zip, and that's probably your only problem. If that doesn't work than I have no other ideas to what could be going on.
Ok, I'll try the rootme.zip file. I had read more than once that it wasn't necessary if you allready knew you wanted to flash a custom rom, but it can't hurt to try. I did a nand backup, data wipe & dalvick wipe all before I flashed xtrsense. I'll try again. thanks.

Well, the only reason I bring it up is because that is the process I went through about two weeks ago to root my phone, and it worked just fine. I also just last night rooted my roomates phone for him and followed the same exact process and it worked as well. All I know is that it works for me that way, and hopefully it will work for you as well.

This is what I would love to know. I am running OTA 2.1, no tweaks. I love it. I love SenseUI. All of it. Only two things that I would like to see change. 1) I would love to ditch Verizon's stupid add-ons (Visual Voicemail, Amazon Store, etc) and 2) I would like it to be a bit snappier. Should I go this route? Is there a better alternative? How does this ROM compare with EvilEris since both preserve Sense?

Hi all, really need some assistance here. Google contacts will not sync. I was on 4.0.5 and it was working great, now on 4.2 as of this morning and now Google contacts won't sync. Everything else syncs just fine; Gmail and Google calendar, exchange contacts, mail & calendar. For some reason, Google contact won't sync fully (it seems some got through which is bizzare). I flashed this morning (followed all fresh install instructions of course per the XTR post), and under the Sync options screen for my google account, it shows the refreshed times for calender and mail as current (2:16 PM), but is stuck on 11:07 am for my contacts sync. When I try to sync Google contacts, it just constantly loops. Confirmed online that all my Google contacts are still there, just not sync'd to the phone.

Please, any advice?? Thanks!

If anyone else has this issue, only thing that worked for me was to do another flash.

This ROM will meet your expectations for both 1 and 2.

I've never used Evil Eris, personally, so I can't tell you how it compares. If I were you, I'd head over to XDA and read the changelogs for both ROMs so that you can compare features in both. Then read the entire threads. I know it's a lot of work, but that's the best way to answer your question.

Here's what I can say: I know that xtrSENSE is more "true" to the HTC Sense UI. Framework has done extensive customization to HTC Sense, whereas zach.xtr has merely "optimized" the stock build of HTC Sense. What's better or worse? That's a personal preference.

For those who are new too Root or who are very happy with the July OTA 2.1, I recommend xtrSENSE4.2.1. This is 99% identical to the OTA with the exception of being able to remove a lot of the stock apps, being able to overclock/underclock, control memory settings, it frees up a TON of internal space for more apps (you should be able to have over 100 apps on average with this ROM), plus you get Wireless Tether and WiFi Tether.

Also, just wanted to hit everyone on this thread with an update...

I've been running xtrSENSE4.5.1 for a few days now and have nothing but positive things to say. I have yet to encounter any lag issues whatsoever and can say that battery life is improved!

Having said that, a new version of the CFS kernel (V5) was released today. If you haven't flashed xtrSENSE4.5.1 yet and you're unfamiliar with kernels, you "may" want to hang tight for a bit just to see if newer versions of the kernel are released and if zach.xtr will be baking them into the non-Beta version of xtrSENSE4.5.1.

I don't know how to fix your particular problem, but I am connecting to my Exchange 2003 with no problems.

Did you do a full wipe install or did you upgrade over an existing install?

Jeff

I did a full wipe but if yours is working then at least I know it's not the rom. Like I said, I got it to work, eventually, on 2.1 v3 so it seems like it is just some flukey thing with my server.

KarateExplosion6,

That was perfect. I was a bit worried about asking so many questions in one post. Thank you. I had to crack open my Eris and replace a broken LCD (~$47 repair vs. >$200 replacement) so my warranty is already voided. I figure I have nothing to loose ("It's just a bit of...harmless brain alteration, that's all" Wallace & Gromit, Curse of the Were-Rabbit).

FYI -- xtrSENSE is now available in version 4.5.2. The only revision is that this version now includes the updated CFS kernel V5 with Conap's tun.ko. This apparently helps with VPN connections. Users have reported that this kernel is "smoother" than the previous V4 as well.

I now have this same problem of a crack screen...

How did you get this done and do you have any recomendations on store(s)...

Thanks!

Finally flashed 4.2 and I'm loving it. Great job again by Zach! My question has to do with OCing. 4.2 is OC'd out of the box to 710 so I don't have to run any scripts unless I want to go higher than 710, correct? I ran the gscript for set_cpu_min_19 just don't know if I need to run another gscript for the max OC. Thanks everyone

Nope, you are correct. It is set out of the box at 710/245. You ran the script to change the min to 19 so you are now running at 710/19.

Good morning all,

I rooted my wife's ERIS this morning and I have a couple of questions.

I used the 1 touch rooting method, made a Nand backup and flashed the 4.2 ROM.

I did not do a data/cache wipe prior to the install. (I know, I know, but I wanted to see what would happen:))

When phone rebooted (after a loooong boot) I was surprised to find that EVERYTHING was the same, apps, data, settings, wallpapers etc. and everything seems to working fine! I didn't have to do a thing and her phone is EXACTLY like it was!

The only differences I can see are SU, wireless tether, 73mb available phone memory and conformation, under about phone, that I am running this custom ROM! (there are probably other things, I will look deeper when she gets home).

I was anticipating a lengthy set-up process to get her phone back up and running and I am amazed things worked so smoothly, quickly and easily! (Kudos to this great community).

Now my questions; I ran a Quadrant and it got a score of 288. Is this normal or do I need to do something to OC the processor? I have read that the ROM OC to 710 without doing anything, is that correct?

Also, are there any of the custom scripts you would recommend running?

TIA

Yeah, nothing will change if you don't wipe anything, but don't cry when your phone starts crashing, etc. The wipes are recommended to avoid issues... My strong suggestion is to download the Donate version of Titanium Backup. Batch backup all of your applications, boot to Recovery, do the wipes, and re-flash xtrSENSE. Then batch restore your apps and set the phone up.

Is it a bitch? Yes. But, you'll know for sure that you've avoided any potential hazards.

And you ran a 288 in Quadrant... so what? I just ran it and got a 216.

These benchmark scores don't mean anything on the Eris. Trust me. Use a Froyo ROM, you'll see high benchmarks but laggy performance. My phone is so much faster than the day I bought it--that's what counts.

Dude, I wasn't bragging (my rooted D1 gets 1500+ scores) I just wondered if this was in the range I should expect.

Thanks for answering none of my questions.

Oh, and I will wipe if problems crop up. Thanks.

Is the Live Wallpaper gscript to turn live wallpapers on or off? I've never tried running live wallpapers but I'm intrigued to see what they're all about.

I understand that the main difference between XTRSense 4.2.x and 4.5.x is the zanfur kernel vs. the CFS kernel but what does that mean, really? What is the difference between the two kernels and which is better, and why?

I think the jury's still out on which is better. They basically allocate resources a little differently, so each might be better for different users, or there might be no measurable difference at all. Once there's a consensus about which is better, I think he'll stick with just one kernel.

The Zanfur kernel is the original HTC kernel for the Eris with the Overclock patch applied. The CFS kernel is the latest kernel for the Android operating system. So, the first one is probably a little bit more fine tuned for the Eris hardware where the second one is just a generic kernel with some different schedulers defined.

Right now it seems like the Zanfur is running better for me. I think I will try the CFS kernel again to see how it behaves.

If you don't mind my asking, what about CFS wasn't working for you? Was it causing force closes, or closing your Home app, or did it just not give the best performance to the apps you were actually using most?

My phone was starting to get sluggish at times. It would speed back up after a bit. Since I have been running the Zanfur kernel it has not been sluggish at all. I am not really sure why that is, but since the kernel was the only thing different between 4.5 and 4.2 I am assuming it was the kernel. I might give 4.5 a try again, but right now I am pretty happy with 4.2.

For those who would like to Beta Test the forthcoming version (with the ONLY Collin_ph Battery Tweak for a 2.1-base ROM)...

the new beta is up!

Quick change log is

* Fixed Issues with Wired Tether on 4.2 and 4.5 that some where having
* changed the /system/sd as the mount point for SD Card ext so NAND backup/restors work without issues or tweaking
* offer with zanfur kernel with links to the BFS and CFS options
* built in performance/battery management simillar to collins_ph [Script] Collin_ph Battery Tweak - xda-developers
* added additional notifications and ringtones (the space in /system/ is not used so why not?)
* tried to use new wired tether 1.4 but recieved FC and have not had time to understand why so probably not this release
* added zanfurs facebook contact photo hack as a GScript WORKING FIX: facebook contact info in 3rd-party apps (including pics) ROOT REQUIRED - xda-developers
* added sqlite3 to /system/xbin/
* new bootanimation GScript so you can show off synaptyc's work :)
* found some cool ways to notify the user when scrits are run and incorperated into the battery tweak
* updated to new 4.5.1 Google maps

The power management battery tweak is disabled by default but there is a gscript to enable plus you can run "battconf" from terminal on the phone or adb shell to configure... The battery tweak runs a script every 60 (or less if you are on power) to poll the capacity of the battery, and as the battery goes down the cpu max freq is progressively lowered. It also changes the CPU write chracteristics (all of which I do not yet fully understand) but following is the list. You can see all the details in the /system/bin/batter_tweak file.

I take no real credit on this and just ported the concept to the HTC framework and HTC kernel (with the zanfur OC patch). This took a lot of work but the concept is not mine and all Collin_ph.

So basically you all are the first users with non ASOP 2.2 setup trying it out and once a few folks post that it works for them I will see if I can strip out my work for others to use on HTC framework ROMs and post on the official thread...
