Root [ROM][ALPHA][5.1.1] Dirty Unicorns 4/29/2015

I'm getting an "invalid firmware metadata" message in the last kernel message... Is there something conflicting in B07 firmware if the ROM was built from B05?
 
Yeah there's several of those invalid firmware metadatalooking for peripheral-loader.c(pil get errors) its something PhenomX4 will have to answer I'm not sure what his kernel is based on these days ... Looks like there may be a conflict with SELinux... You guys say its saying permissive but in the log it says enforcing... So that too is above my pay grade. See the attached another potential SELinux issue.

... I'll try and restore my B05 tomorrow and then flash 5.1.1 again to see what happens.

No problem man, sorry I wasn't much help...seems like we came up with more questions than answers lol.
 
Hey guys I'm a newb with this stuff installing custom roms and whatnot. I have a rooted 4.1.2 B01. Will this rom work easily for my phone? I'm downloading it right now. Once it is downloaded, do I just move it to the root folder and then on the reboot window, choose the "apply update from external storage" option? How does this custom rom installation work? I didn't see any instructions on here... sorry for my ignorance, newb..

Step 1. Root (which you have)
Step 2. Custom recovery which can be found in this forum. This can be easily done by flashify or other similar market tool. (Or fastboot)
Step 3. Create a nandroid backup of your current ROM. (In case something goes wrong)
Step 4. Download ROM and GApps package and place on the root of your SD card.
Step 5. Wipe data/cache/dalvik cache
Step 6. Select to install from SD card first the ROM then GApps.
Step 7. Reboot and profit. [emoji106] [emoji16]

Did I miss anything folks?

Okay, thanks! I tried this earlier but could not find the Dalvik cache option. I'll try again when I get some time off, not sure when that'll be unfortunately.

You need to wipe system as well whenever upgrading OSs.

... So
In custom recovery
*mounts and storage
/format system
/format data
/format cache

*advanced
/wipe dalvik

Also I always do:
*Wipe data/factory reset
*Wipe cache partition

^^all in recovery

-follow the rest of what Starkraving has posted-

PS: all (*) are indicative of options found on the first screen of your custom recovery.

Doesn't phenoms updater script format system on install?

I do not have any of those as an option on the first screen in recovery mode xD only options include
-reboot system now
-apply update from ADB
-wipe data/factory reset
-wipe cache partition
-apply update from external
storage
-apply update from cache
-md5 check

Sounds like you're on stock recovery.
Being that you are rooted you should go to the Google play store and download an app called [Root]Rashr- flash tool, that will flash a custom recovery for you.

You'll need one of these recoveries:
-TWRP-

OR
-CWM-
https://basketbuild.com/filedl/devs?dev=phenomx4&dl=phenomx4/N800/CWM-v6.0.5.1-N800-12-27-14.zip
*Just chose one, I personally like CWM because I feel it's more stable, but TWRP is more user friendly with it's touch interface*

So, to backtrack just a moment, after you download the [Root]Rashr- flash tool app from the play store you're going to need to extract the recovery.img from one of the above Zip files you just downloaded.

You will be able to chose flash recovery img in [Root]Rashr-flash tool. You'll need the recovery.img that you extracted from the recovery zip file.
Now that I look at Rashr, it'll just be easier if you put the recovery.img file at the root of your internal SD and you can cancel or say no to the first two windows that pop up in the app and just go to the second option in the app (Recovery from storage) then just find where you put the recovery.img

I would flash twrp. to me I have less problems that's just my opion:)
