Root [ROM] Android 2.2 FroYo - Brought to you by MDW (OC & Flash 10.1!)

From what I understand, (I use SPR though, so this is just from reading), to get CW to work, you have to flash to SPR, then back to CW, then it is fine..So you are doing the right thing John...

Not for me...I had CW when I flashed the ROM, I still have CW and I never have flashed SPR since using this ROM.

I haven't got full screen, but close. Since it's still in the browser, you can pinch to zoom and it gets close...

Yeah, double tapping on the video puts you in a "full screen" mode and on some sites it seems to do a better job (based on the native resolution I'm sure). Sometimes it seems to incorporate the video controls into the size of the window that the double tap zoom resizes for.

Some people are reporting loosing CW. The explanation I have seen to fix this is to flash SPR, then CW again...Sorry if I wasn't clear. This doesn't seem to be the case for everyone, just some....

I really want to try 2.2 but it seems it needs a little work before its safe to flash. I would hate to have my phone mess up on me and not be able to boot into recovery. I wouldnt even know what to do. (that must have really sucked johnlgalt)

No, you were clear (and I saw that you were reporting 2nd hand info :)). I'm not saying it's false...just not the case for me. The only notable thing I did was to click on "Problems" on TiBu to fix the issue I was having to get TiBu working (I was getting permission errors). Installed busybox from TiBu and all was working fine and then I reflashed CW via ROM Manager.

update:

second install has gone MUCH smoother. the initial boot was much shorter and it is properly syncing my apps.

getting excited again now!

Heh - thanks to all who pointed out I should replace CWM with SPR, then re-replace SPR with CWM - I now have a kernel!!!

Muhahahah - time to go play!

It actually does bother me - I like having the option to silence the phone without having to turn the damned thing off....Besides, it has these pretty pretty lights on the front so I can silence it and still be somewhat aware of what is going on....

I've looked for an app that does this well (turn off sound, but keep vibration on), and also wanted to have a timer option, as I often forget to re-enable sound later.

I found Ring Mode Timer - great little app. Has timed and non-timed options - allows you to turn off sound but retain vibration either until you set it back, or for a timed period. Vibration on or off is a selectable option that is remembered. Worth a look...

True...I think that was a separate issue..Starting to get hard to tell though :D ...The permissions thing is indeed fixed by using TiBu, but I did not encounter that problem myself...

Glad it's working but that makes no damn sense

Why would flashing a different recovery enable you to re-flash the original recovery??? Oh well, working is working no matter how you get it done I guess :)

Worked for me as well...was unable to boot to Clockwork Recovery using power/X key. Used ROM Manager to flash SPRecovery, rebooted, then flashed back to current version of Clockwork Recovery, and boot to Recovery works fine again...

The ROM seems awesome... with one exception. Helix2 doesn't work. :(

I've been using it ever since this thread first went up this morning.

I gave this another shot and it finally works, sort of. I still get a problem where the screen won't wake up after the phone has been on standby...haptic keys light up, but screen stays dark and I have to pull the battery...

Speed ranges from great to OK, generally w/the stock kernel.

Feels like an RC that didn't make it to MR...hopefully we'll get some more robust RC leaks (or the real thing built from source from CM) soon.

Good idea - but I want sound and vibrate off, just LED notification. In class I like to have my phone on the desktop but completely unobstrusive, as I like to use the Calculator in various classes as well as some other apps - I sometimes fail to loo at the notification bar, but will always see the LEDs - without the super jumbo 12" schlong vibrator noise when the vibration goes off and it is sitting on my desk.

I did - but I fixed that one by installing Busybox.

Dunno, especially as, when ROM Manager was not getting root access, I went to fix permissions, then got an error that it could not run privileged commands, so I manually installed CWM just as a test - so I had already flashed it once after installing the ROM, so it was not the original flash to begin with.

Oh well, it's F'ing working now, so I cannot moan anymore, can I?

Zactly. If I had only known this an hour ago, there'd have been a lot less ranting by me on here.

Helix2? Have you tried LauncherPro?

Agreed. Since it is native to the leaked ROM, you really should try it, Fade. It is ten times smoother with JIT enabled on FroYo than it ever was on the other ROMs....

Beautiful Widgets has widgets for silent and vibrate and Weather Widgets has a silent widget too.

Still working too :)

Yeah, I just used the power strip widget, and the Beautiful Small Home widget, but I liked being able to use the volume rocker switch to select it without having to actually open the phone and pick the home screen where the widget is and then enable it.

Technically, I already can, since I bought Locale, but since setting up class schedules is a PITA I haven't bothered since the last time I switched ROMs....

second install went perfect.

now using the 1.2 kernel again with launcher pro and this ROM is blazing fast!

done for the night though, gonna finish the setup in the morning.

good luck all! :)
