Root [ROM] Android 2.2 FroYo - Brought to you by MDW (OC & Flash 10.1!)

so far running awsome . getting an average of 18.5mflops and a stunning 1502 in benchmarks on 1.2 oc. My videos that i had, now i get an unknown error and they have worked before. I do have act 1 and stock player neither work. any ideas from the mighty mighty out there! yeah and hulu does not work for me either. can only imagine what will become of bb with this

it was interesting to use but flash was choppy for me and I miss my CM features. I will wait til this hits AOSP which hopefully will be soon

Cool, glad you got it working :)

As far as the update.zip installation goes...you have to click the one that says "allow" first and then click the one that says "install...depreciated" (I don't remember the exact titles of the options...been awhile since I've used SPR)...but its a 2 step process. Make sense? If you don't click the one that says "allow" first...it WILL fail.

It worked. Thank you!!

I'm curious, does wireless tether, or barnacle work with this? I'm amazed at how stable this is! Back when we got early 2.1 releases they had all kinds of bugs in em.. Unless someone really puts out a rom that blows me away, I'm probably gonna stay with this until the next lineup of phones come out with 2.2 preinstalled. I'm up for an upgrade. But atm happy with my Droid. O.o and this also means I don't have to be searching forums for froyo anymore, we already got it!

Ok I installed flash but when I go to hulu, it's telling me I need to disable my anonymizer to access videos. This happening to anyone else?

hulu is blocked. There is a thread about getting it to work but it is hit or miss

Hey maybe you guys can help me...i went to install the OC kernel only to find that when i flashed 2.2 I seemed to have lost superuser/root. I used the original froyo dump from P3droid last night. Any help with this??? Sorry if I am being a complete moron

So I downloaded Quadrant, and ran the benchmark test....I see earlier in the thread people were getting 1400+, I've ran it a number of times and am right about 1000. Also, getting approximately 12 Mflops in Linpack.

Is this about standard?

Did you flash with SP Recovery. If you did, there's a little note about it in the OP you may have skimmed past in your excitement :)

~1400 requires 1GHz overclock.

--Also, I see that bgill55 has done all the hard work already and themed the Froyo framework. That should make porting 'DroTheme' a lot easier. Anybody have some suggestions for a name :p

I'm OC'd at 1GHz and I'm getting around 1200 on Quadrant if that gives you a certain estimate.

Benchmark at 15.8 MFLOPs

The bottom dock in LP has been customizable for, what, a week now? Can't remember exactly when...it's highly customizable, you can even choose between stock and custom icons...

Maybe I was just too tired when I downloaded it. I figure things out like a 3 year old when I'm like that. (ie: not at all.)

I'll do some more poking around today. Thanks.

Long press on the icon to change it. Being able to choose icon styles is pretty cool.

LOL yeah, I just figured that out. Last night when I did that and the menu came up, I was like "WTF, why is it trying to add shortcuts to my desktop? Did I miss the icon? " and then I just uninstalled it. I get frustrated easily when I am overtired, and this has been the week from hell.

Redflea - Thanks for that dumbsmack. I needed it. :D

Now the only thing left to do is figure out why the hell I can't modify framework-res. Not having a transparent statusbar will drive me insane. (Again... overtired the first time I tried.)

Wats up with messaging. Did they always show the contact pictures? . Or did they just have the name whileviewing the actual convo

Wow, this is amazing. I just tried installing 2.2 again and after putting in my info at my first boot up, it seems like I won't even need Titanium to restore my apps (but I might still need it for app data). After giving it my google account info, it's automatically installing all apps I had installed from the market. I couldn't tell at first, because it's not listing them in the downloads section of the market, but my apps are appearing in my app drawer without me doing a damn thing. I'm guessing ADW launcher isn't going to work on 2.2, is it? I'm not sure if Titanium backed it up with my full backup or not cuz I can't find it on the backup list anywhere so I'm guessing it's named something weird.

I would still like some help knowing if I should need to restore any system data with Titanium or not. It seems Google is restoring all the important stuff, but I'm not sure if I'll have to restore anything it misses when it's all done syncing. Thanks for all the help so far guys.

Fab, I am awaiting NexBeast on 2.2 now ;).

Edit: Seems as if I've found some incompatible apps; WiFi tether and Swype. Has anyone else experienced this yet? When I try to restore them in Titanium, it soft reboots (shows the Droid animation for like 15 secs and am back at lock screen).

Edit 2: I had to manually install the .apk for these then restore data through Titanium for some reason, anyone else seen this?

Glad it automagically installed all your apps. What I did was then use Titanium Backup to restore the data for the apps only batch (not the apps + system - I don't want to try to restore system data from a 2.1 ROM onto a 2.2 ROM - never know what kind of stupidity is going to occur.

Also, I was able to restore my Blackthemed Swype from Titanium (app and data) flawlessly.

WiFi Tether will not install b/c, well, this ROM has no WiFi tethering capabilities - yet.

Thanks on the call for the widget player on Hulu whoever caught it! Works great, nice and smooth.
First, what is the point of the widget? Fast access from a desktop? Also, how long before Hulu finds out and blocks our access?

If you use the about:config trick to make it sem like you're coming from a desktop, they are gonna have to work overtime to filter real desktops from emulated ones, so it may be a while before they can block this trick.

Ah, sweet Hulu on my phone, Verizon is surely going to regret that unlimited data plan for as long as that hole in Hulu's security exists!

Don't say that - AT&T is already jumping on the "Users don't need unlimited data plans" bandwagon- you'll jinx us!

After moving to this rom at work this evening using only my droid with no computer I think after all that work I'm sticking with this....

That is until Pete comes up with something :)

+5

I thought I was the only one desperate enough to download it on my phone (even worse, using 3G instead of wifi!) And now I have this image of all of us, Droids in hand sitting like little baby birds in a nest with our mouths opening wide to encourage Pete to regurgitate a 2.2 BB. Hmm....that is actually less disgusting in my head than it looks when written down.

*ChirpChirp CHIRP!!!!*

haha.. i even told my wife over the phone that i couldnt wait to get home and flash everything over but damn, i needed it :)

Don't we all - we're addicts and we know it :p

Not sure you got this answered. Settings>Sound> Change Vibrate to Only when not in silent mode. Check the Silent Mode box (silence all sounds except media and alarms) and rocker switch now has Silent.

Thanks - now it does vibrate at all times without silence, which is how I like it anyway, but I cannot manually select vibrate with silence. Hmmm. I still liked the old method better, where I could select both from the rocker. Still, this is a fantabulous workaround for me, again, thanks!

Thanks. I did not use the market fix tool in TB.

Oddly enough, I uninstalled one app and reinstalled it, to see if it would show itself in the downloads, when suddenly, all my apps appeared in the market (sync was on).

Mine showed while they were installing - it was trying to install so many apps that I even saw a download paused message on some of those that were in the queue.

If they weren't showing when you were having them reinstalled, it was probably simply b/c it didn't have the memory at the time to actually show them, as it was trying to asses what was being downloaded, at the same time as downloading said apps and installing them.

I have seen this in previous ROMs as well - if your DL list is huge (mine has 150+) sometimes absolutely nothing shows, especially if the phone is multi-tasking hard. However, if I just leave the download page up, sometimes (up to 5 minu8tes later once) all of a sudden they show up.

Can I install 2.2 without a computer. I'm rooted and have a rom manager.

You'll have to be able to get the files on your phone, but yes, since they are .ZIP archives, the phone can handle extraction an such. Using a file manager like eStrongs or Astro, it should be a piece of cake. Getting the file onto your computer may prove to be the hardest part, but the MDW links can be used in your phone (not sure if the Media Fire links can, though.)

Has anyone noticed some lagging in chrome? I believe it might be flash ads using up processor space in the background.

I haven't gotten Chrome to work in 2.2...

Could everyone please post their CPU speed and Linpack Score?

Me: 900 MHZ, 14.283 MFLOPS

Working on it.

Ok guys, I have to apologize.

I installed this within about 10 minutes of Fab posting the link, and I had both the Titanium problem and the CW Recovery problem and figured out the fixes myself because they hadn't been reported yet. I apologize for not thinking ahead and letting the rest of the community know about this problems and the fixes for them.

Incidentally, I found that a faster fix for the CW Recovery problem is to flash an OLD version of CW Recovery, then re-flash the current one, you don't even have to reboot and it works very well.

Sorry for not letting everyone know. I was a noob such a short time ago, I take it for advantage that if I figure it out, everyone else will.

No worries, m8. I found it fastest to just flash SPR then flash CWM back - both were already downloaded to my phone to it took all of 30 seconds total.

Is there an overclocked kernel with wireless tethering?

The native USB tethering works fine, but I thought the hotspot wireless tethering was also part of the native Froyo.

Biggest joy for me with Froyo is the "update all" feature in the app market.

Negative - WiFi is not native to FroYo from what I can see. Yet.

Good question. However, someone has one it cause there is now a black mod for FroYo from BGill over at Android Forums....

I feel as though it used to be just the name in the actual message. It seems too cluttered.

Yes, the old ROMs did not have pics on default in the message threads themselves.

And I cannot see how to disable that either. So, finally, something don't like about FroYo....

yes you can, i was on the road when this rom came out yesterday morning and i installed everything while cruising interstate.

you will only be using rom manager to run the nandroid. If you aren't familiar with browsing your sd card with a file manager also renaming/moving files along with knowing how to boot into recovery, wiping data and cache i do not suggest it.

I've found a few problems, wondering if anyone can help me confirm them.

1. Beautiful widgets won't bring up my alarms when I click on the time, and I don't have a way to set the alarm as an option within the settings of BW.

2. I can't get any flashlight apps to work

hey guys, love this rom, but I have one issue.

every few times that I hit the home button from an app it pauses for a second, takes me to a blank home screen, and then a few seconds later all my apps and stuff are back. Just wondering if I'm the only one.

Are you using a task killer? If so, be sure to exclude LauncherPro, otherwise the task killer will kill it and a new process will have to be spawned when you hit the home button.

If not using a task killer, then I've got nothing...

This happens to me too with LauncherPro. I don't even have a task killer. It also happened with helix on 2.1 for me. I've never found a fix.
