Root [ROM] Android 2.2 FroYo - Brought to you by MDW (OC & Flash 10.1!)

Now the only thing left to do is figure out why the hell I can't modify framework-res. Not having a transparent statusbar will drive me insane. (Again... overtired the first time I tried.)

Fade, I've already made changes... The framework-res.apk is very similar to 2.1 - only real differences appear to be the additions for the PIN lock. Not sure about services.jar yet though...

Hmm. I just tried editing the framework/res/drawablehdpi icons (replacing with the icons I was already using in CM5.0.7.1) and it went into infinite boot loop.

I'm going to try Metamorph (the cheating way) this morning before I start digging into the apk, but I don't expect it to work. I have a fresh backup on hand just in case.

Did you flash with SP Recovery. If you did, there's a little note about it in the OP you may have skimmed past in your excitement :)

~1400 requires 1GHz overclock.

--Also, I see that bgill55 has done all the hard work already and themed the Froyo framework. That should make porting 'DroTheme' a lot easier. Anybody have some suggestions for a name :p

Just call it Droyo for now until Pete releases his version. Damn I can't wait, I'm looking forward to getting Pete's performance scripts back. I'm not use to seeing my RAM dip down to the low 30's anymore.

I'm liking this ROM especially the new camera options but I like my froyo with extra toppings.

Metamorph worked for theming. Now I am going back to CM. So so so so so so SO SO SO lame. Launcherpro doesn't cover the entire screen, so a transparent statusbar means nothing but a black bar across the top.

I am so disappointed. :(

I've found a few problems, wondering if anyone can help me confirm them.

1. Beautiful widgets won't bring up my alarms when I click on the time, and I don't have a way to set the alarm as an option within the settings of BW.

2. I can't get any flashlight apps to work

the stock alarm app is changed. go into beautiful widgets and change what app is loaded when you press the time and change it to "clock"

this rocks...but somehow i lost my android keyboard, i restored the nandroid, got the keyboard back, but it's not with the mic...hmmmm...restoring the other backup, i will just use swype until i figure it out, lol.

ok..so woke up this morning and the ROM still acts up occasionally (freezing, lagging, etc.) and it uses an awful lot of internal memory (I think I have about 20 apps installed + flash and it's using 72 mb, normally I am using about 32) I know flash is big, but its only 12 mb.

has anybody tried birdman's version? the log says he got rid of some "bloat" could somebody who is running this elaborate more? is the ROM running more smoothly?

Is there a V2 of this ROM yet, w/the updated kernels and Flash already incorporated? I thought I'd heard there was, but haven't seen it...

Yeah, that's my thread. :)

I meant have Miami and company released a second version of the ROM on this thread...

I'm desperately seeking a 2.2 ROM that I can run, not luck so far, about to try Birdman v2 in a few seconds.

I'm getting to the point where I'm thinking about accidentally dumping my droid in the bathtub to make use of insurance to get another one.

dont do that. find a way to brick it so you can get a new one from vzw for free and not have to pay the $90 deductible. I bet if you sbf and unplugg your phone in the process you could mess it up

Have you tried the manual reboot after the ROM installs, followed by a battery pull, before you even try to sign in to your Google account?

Nope - have to admit, that's a new one. OK, putting on Birdman now, I will try that after the ROM is installed...reboot, battery pull, swing the dead cat, I'm pretty much willing to try anything at this point - I NEED MY GAL LOOKUP!!

Oops...didn't mean to shout.... ;)

Thanks, John, for the suggestion.

Thanks...Yeah, I know, there are many ways to skin a cat. :)

I actually was being somewhat facetious, I'd feel too guilty doing that. However, I'm beginning to think that maybe even the official 2.2 won't run on my Droid...if that happens I'll easily get an exchanged unit...just gotta manage at least a five-year old's level of patience. Quite the stretch for me. ;)

Good luck to ya - if you read through this thread you'll see I had all sorts of headaches myself, and I was coming fro Pete's BB 1.0, so....

lol I feel ya on the patience thing - I was a stark raving lunatic last night at times...

F-ing A, I am so pissed...

Rebooted and pulled battery after first boot up.

Signed in and set droid aside to allow it to sync apps. Checked up in it a few minutes later and it's either turned itsself off again, or is just not responding - screen and haptic keys are dark, power button doesn't do anything.

Pulled battery, power button to start up again.

I don't know which gods I have offended, what awful deed I committed in some past life to deserve this, but I'm really, really sorry, and could someone please tell my why 2.2 HATES my phone?!

Obviously, I don't give up easy, but this is getting me close to throwing in the towel.

Wait - maybe it is synchronizing and simply not able to respond at the current moment. Doubtful, but hell, let it sit there for an hour and see what happens....

Have you tried stopping it from syncing your apps? Download any app right away and that should stop it from syncing them all. Then it will just have to sync gmail and contacts ect

Or, you could factory reset. This time, instead of hitting the Droid, tap the four corners in a clockwise manner starting with the top left.

Then, mess around with Froyo for a bit, before you sign in. Also, I think if you do this delayed sign in, it doesn't sync your apps (not sure though).

I did notice that when I first installed it that it was extreamly allow and would stop responding from time to time... The synchronizing of apps would make sense... I would just try setting it to the side for a couple of hours... I will say that mine was acting funny the first time I installed it so I did a nandroid and flashed back to my jrummy backup... Decided to try it again and installed the 2.2 backup and it is working great....

Sent from my Droid using Tapatalk

Try downloading it again - seems your DL might be corrupt.

Didn't think about it that way - makes sense.

I've been using CW so much I have forgotten a lot of things myself, like the things I used to do in the early days when I was using SPRecovery - like using ADB to backup all my apps, etc.

Let's see if anyone is already working on one, if not, I'll be willing to put in some time....

Oh, an I have Acrobat, so I can make a distributable PDF for folks wanting to print / view off-line.
