Pete tweeted the other day that he hasn't lost the love for the moto droid, and that .5 is coming sometime. I guess he is super busy learning more about the Android OS and how it works on other phones as well. Not to mention "real life" stuff like his GF, job, and school and other responsibilities LOL

Admittedly, I have switched to CyanogenMod RC3 until BB .5 comes out. I get antsy when I don't update my ROMs. I'm sure once Pete gets back I will jump on BB .5

How are you liking the CyanogenMod? Much difference from BB? speed, temp, control?
I've been looking for another rom as well but can't decide which one to choose.

Pete IS working on v0.5 (I test for him, so I know this for a fact!

Glad to see the pace of development continues at a fairly brisk pace as the Droid gets somewhat overshadowed by its new brethren (Droid X and Droid 2). I have been using CM6 but look forward to what Pete has on his plate. I have read some tweets regarding adding touch to focus for the Droid camera (they have it working for some other phones). BTW - I see you are in Wilmington. Many years ago there was a great truck-stop on Delaware Memorial Turnpike called "Clemente's." They had the best burgers I have ever had. Any change they are still in business??

Yeah, you said the same thing a month or more ago, and there's still nothing, other than some vague tweets and your assertions. I truly, truly enjoy Bugless Beast, and it's the only ROM I've ever used for more than a day; however, if this mythical BB 0.5 is still months off, then Pete should let his devoted users know that.

And while I think it's great that he's apparently learned his lesson and isn't promoting this latest BB as "epic" like he did one of the earlier incarnations, I think by not letting people know that there's been no new BB in such a long time because he's not really working all that hard on it, it's causing some of the following to get the idea in their heads that it's taking so long because he's packing it with features and goodies to make it the best. ROM. ever.

In reality, it's more likely to be closer to FRG22B with Pete's usual dose of scripts and such, and if that's the case, without some kind of statement from Pete either as to what to expect or when to expect it, there's going to be some backlash. Is that fair? No. But with Pete's experience in this community, he should know that's what's going to happen, because that's what happens any time something gets a bit of buzz behind it.

I just installed Liquid

Nice, but not that much faster than BB4

Let's see what happens when/if BB5 comes out

You still have some work to do... like installing a recovery image, ROM Manager, making a backup, and THEN installing Bugless Beast (which is also available in ROM Manager).

how do I download and use this Bugless Beast ROM? I have already rooted, so now what?

Download Rom Manager from Market
Flash Clockworkmod Recovery (option in rom manager)
Then hit Backup current rom.

Now you can download and flash BB or any other rom (You can do this through Rom Manager as well). Just remember to backup before you flash any rom. If anything ever goes wrong (like you're phone keeps rebooting), pull the battery, put it back in, hold 'X' on the physical keyboard and hit the power button. You will then be in your recovery menu. Go to nandroid - restore - and select the backup u want to restore. It will set your phone up to exactly how it was when you made the backup.

Hey guys, Pete is working on curing hunger, poverty, and bringing about world peace. I checked out his Twitter feed one time and it was beyond amazing. Just hold tight for a bit longer (the same thing Pete drones have been saying for FOUR MONTHS NOW) and Pete will conquer all!

Patience guys! Getting close to being close to sorta close to almost close to release!!

You must of found something on 1.5 that makes you want to keep it dispite all the bugs. I reverted back to .4 after trying 1.5 for the speed and stability. People are saying to get a faster kernel with 1.5, why? I can run at 800mhz and be much faster than i was with a 1ghz kernel on 1.5. To me that doesnt make sense..

Yesterday I flashed my very first custom ROM and after a GREAT deal of research I selected Bugless Beast 0.4 as my leap into this world.

My needs were:

1. Very reliable/bug-free

2. Improved battery life

3. Ability for wireless wifi tether

4. At least as fast as stock Froyo

5. Fix my wifi problems I inherited with FRG01B

All of this was achieved with BB (I am still fine-tuning settings on wifi tether but it is live).

Really, I am not such a bleeding-edge tech guy that I MUST have the latest greatest newest thing and I doubt that I will be changing ROM's often. Themes mean almost nothing to me.
Function...or functionality per dollar is my prime focus.

I am not changing kernels at this time, and after I finish my first 24 hour battery test leaving BB 0.4 to do its thing, I will try some adjustments in SetCPU to obtain more battery life if possible. I may never change kernels if the phone continues to work so well as it appears now.

So far I cannot see what I could obtain from another ROM that I would need that is not provided with BB but I understand my education is still in process on this.

I run Launcer Pro and a Goto lockscreen on my (obviously) D1. The hesitations that I saw in Froyo are gone. The longish lag that plagued my phone upon startup is now reduced to a half-second of hesitation, then smooth and fast everywhere I navigate. I have not encountered a single bug or FC since I set this up.

To me I find this near-miraculous performance (no bugs! No headaches! No crashes!) and I do not know what I would even ask for in a new version of BB. My Quadrant score doubled going from 2.1 to Froyo, then increased by just under 50% more going to BB from Froyo for what that is worth.
(Hmmm, I muse to myself...is *even more* speed kind of the tech equivalent of an EVEN taller monster truck? Or an *EVEN lower* lowered Honda Civic?)

For the people who are jumping up and down about BB 0.5 what is it exactly that you want from a new version? I would be interested to know if there are real performance goals that you have or if it is more just looking for the next big thing.

Yes, I am a noob to the ROM world, so god knows I might be here jumping up and down for the next amazing ROM in a month, and sneering at lesser ROM's from the height of my huge, relatively pointless Quadrant Score.

:)

Cheers all

Since I'm the most vociferous one in this thread, allow me to clarify my position - I'm not looking for anything else out of BB - 0.4 has everything I need. I'm only negative towards Pete and his testers because he keeps saying and keeps saying 0.5 is coming (and they keep echoing it) but if you look at his Twitter or web site, all he's worked on is the X and the Galaxy S. The D1development/flashing community would be better off if Pete just admitted he's done with the D1 and let all the hopeless souls waiting for 0.5 move on and try other roms instead of waiting for a rom that realistically is never coming.

BB0.4 is based on a much older Froyo source than is currently available... I only hope for Pete to base 0.5 on a newer build and keep the excellence that is Bugless Beast. I'm not a flashing addict: I just want top functionality and after a couple of brief flirtations with other ROMs it's BB I'm sticking with.

Even if 0.5 never comes out, 0.4 has everything I need and then some.

i think pete will get bbv0.5 out at some point. i certainly won't call him or his testers a liar because it isn't out yet. it is obvious he has spent time on other devices, but can you blame him? pete is creating a name for himself and working on other devices gets him more recognition. but lets face it pete (or any of the other dev's for that matter) doesn't owe us anything. the guy works, goes to college, and tries to find time for a life as well. i look forward to 0.5 and i will continue to flash other roms until it comes out.

I can understand that. What is that old quote: "Hope too long deferred makes the heart sick" ..? I think that is it.

I guess we shall see if 0.5 rolls out here pretty soon, eh? Not that I feel a big need to go anywhere unless battery life on 0.4 does not turn out how I want.

Haven't noticed that at all. I did notice that it's a bit sensitive though and sometimes doesn't want to switch back to portrait. I have to usually do a counter clockwise rotation gesture to get it to flip back, and usually a few tries. That's hasn't been an issue to me yet though and once it's in portrait as long as I don't lean the phone left or right it stays.

I got the notification for the 22D Froyo update. With the last update I applied the patch and it was gone. Any advice for the new update?

Unrelated, but I'll ask it here. Anyone notice a dip in battery life after applying the stopota.zip patch? I felt like my battery isn't as good on the charge anymore.
