Yesterday I flashed my very first custom ROM and after a GREAT deal of research I selected Bugless Beast 0.4 as my leap into this world.
My needs were:
1. Very reliable/bug-free
2. Improved battery life
3. Ability for wireless wifi tether
4. At least as fast as stock Froyo
5. Fix my wifi problems I inherited with FRG01B
All of this was achieved with BB (I am still fine-tuning settings on wifi tether but it is live).
Really, I am not such a bleeding-edge tech guy that I MUST have the latest greatest newest thing and I doubt that I will be changing ROM's often. Themes mean almost nothing to me.
Function...or functionality per dollar is my prime focus.
I am not changing kernels at this time, and after I finish my first 24 hour battery test leaving BB 0.4 to do its thing, I will try some adjustments in SetCPU to obtain more battery life if possible. I may never change kernels if the phone continues to work so well as it appears now.
So far I cannot see what I could obtain from another ROM that I would need that is not provided with BB but I understand my education is still in process on this.
I run Launcer Pro and a Goto lockscreen on my (obviously) D1. The hesitations that I saw in Froyo are gone. The longish lag that plagued my phone upon startup is now reduced to a half-second of hesitation, then smooth and fast everywhere I navigate. I have not encountered a single bug or FC since I set this up.
To me I find this near-miraculous performance (no bugs! No headaches! No crashes!) and I do not know what I would even ask for in a new version of BB. My Quadrant score doubled going from 2.1 to Froyo, then increased by just under 50% more going to BB from Froyo for what that is worth.
(Hmmm, I muse to myself...is *even more* speed kind of the tech equivalent of an EVEN taller monster truck? Or an *EVEN lower* lowered Honda Civic?)
For the people who are jumping up and down about BB 0.5 what is it exactly that you want from a new version? I would be interested to know if there are real performance goals that you have or if it is more just looking for the next big thing.
Yes, I am a noob to the ROM world, so god knows I might be here jumping up and down for the next amazing ROM in a month, and sneering at lesser ROM's from the height of my huge, relatively pointless Quadrant Score.
Cheers all
