Didn't work for me. Running BB 0.4 and the instructions below seemed to work just fine. Verified that the build.prop file was changed, but after reboots the update is still pending. Any way to delete it? Any other ideas? I don't really want to accept and reboot to the ! as has been suggested because the last time I did that (from rooted 2.2 stock thru ClockWorkMod) I lost root, so I switched to BB 0.4. Really don't want to go thru the process again, but this update nag is getting annoying. Interrupts my clock at night!

Hopefully, you have Root Explorer (and if you don't, I highly recommend it because it's so worth the couple of bucks). Here are the instructions to prevent to the FRG22D OTA update (which I was getting yesterday myself):

1. In Root Explorer, go to /system/
2. Tap Mount R/W at the top, then long-press on build.prop and scroll down to Open in Text Editor
3. Once the file is open as a text file, scroll down until you see the line that says: "ro.build.fingerprint=verizon/voles/sholes/sholes:2.2/FRG01B/45394:user/release-keys" and change it to read as follows:
ro.build.fingerprint=verizon/voles/sholes/sholes:2.2/FRG22D/50454:user/release-keys
4. Tap the back key and say "Yes" when it asks you to save (it will automatically back up the original file for you)
5. Tap Mount R/O at the top
6. Reboot

You will no longer get the OTA update notifications, because Verizon will believe you already have it.

Honesly, I'm baffled -- my update notifications stopped immediately after I made those changes to the build.prop file.

Thanks. Maybe someone will suggest something. If not, I guess I'll switch to Cyanogen 6 or something. Can't lose root; I need to keep the softkeys off at night. };-)

I've noticed that battery life is becoming worse over time as I use BBv.4. Nothing has changed since I originally loaded it over a month ago. Anyone else seeing this? Any fix?

Could just be your battery dying, as they have a limited number of charges over their lifetime. I was having similar issues in July, bought two additional batteries from Amazon for less than $5 a piece, and since then, I've doubled my previous battery life. I would also bear in mind that if you have a lot of widgets that gather data from online sources and you're in an area with an iffy 3G connection, that'll sap A TON of battery.

And to those questioning what I'll say if/when BB 0.5 is released, I'll happily eat my words and admit that I was wrong, and Pete can expect a healthy donation from me for my wrong-headedness. Please don't misunderstand my disbelief that a new BB is actually coming for a dislike for Pete or BB - Pete's ROMs are the only ones that I've run for any length of time since rooting my phone, and I'm awaiting BB 0.5 as anxiously as anyone. Unlike most of you, though, I see BB as more of an inconvenience for Pete since moving on to (arguably) bigger and better things - between the DInc, DX, and Galaxy S variants, why waste time on a phone that he's already accomplished so much on? Pete seems like the kind of guy who likes new challenges, and I just don't see how much he can improve BB, which, if my theory holds, would make it the lowest-priority of his current projects and would almost certainly account for the delay. He was releasing new BB's on an almost-daily basis in May/June, and we haven't seen anything since late June.

Thanks for the clarification. I think this post is quite reasonable and I can see why you might feel that way.

I guess we shall see.

Thanks again

Cheers

:)

From Pete via twitter just now...

The stock FRG22D will be fixed and uploaded tomorrow after my Trig Exam, gotta study :( Thanks for letting me know.

Okay...so why wouldn't you post that in the FRG22D Deodexed thread, where it belongs, because it's a stock/vanilla ROM, as opposed to a Bugless Beast ROM?

Because I'm hoping that means he is going to use it in the BB5. Might be applicable.

Even if Pete uses it in BB 0.5, that wouldn't make it applicable. It's a different ROM, and it has its own thread in this subforum. Until Pete takes FRG22D and adds in all the tweaks and goodies, it's just a stock ROM, not BB.

I've noticed this also! I've had it longer than a month though and notice the same thing... :(

My battery is about 10 months old... How old was your battery?

I only have Power Control Widget... That's it.

GPS - Turned Off
Wifi - Turned Off
Bluetooth - Turned Off
Sync - Turned On
Screen - Auto

I got my Droid in December and replaced the batteries in late July/early August...it's not so much the age of the battery as how many charge cycles you've put it through. I was in an area with piss-poor reception for work from January though August and often had to charge my phone twice a day, so I ran it through a bunch of the charge cycles in a fairly short amount of time.

gotcha.

easiest thing right now is to buy one or two batteries from Amazon.com...

I am still on the original battery I got on Launch Day and it lasts 12-16 hours of moderate-heavy use. Have a spare in the fridge but no need to use it yet. I guess every battery is different and responds to the same load in different ways.

can you good folks tell me how to add additional home screens to my bb 0.4 ? been running it since it came out, but have not figured out how to add them yet.

also, im getting some refresh delay lately. when im using an app and i go back to my home screen, there is a pause then my home screen populates with my icons and widgets. what do you think this could be ? i dont remember it doing this before recently. a setting to prevent this maybe ?

you need a launcher such as launcher pro or adw launcher to gain additional home screens. search the market for these. some dalay is to be expected with the stock launcher. a new one will help you:).

LauncherPro offers a free version that will give you that functionality.

It will likely fix your delay/lag situation.

You may try pulling your battery for a bit and putting it back in and then letting the phone run for a while and see if it clears up too.

I run 5 screens on bb 0.4 with LauncherPro currently.

I did all of the above and it fixed the lag and delay. I really like the options available with LauncherPro.
