Root [ROM] Bugless Beast V0.2.1 Android 2.2 FRF57

changed the pm install in the script and it's still rebooting randomly

any further fix or should i go back to the super stable BB 2.0 cause i loved ittt

Thanks. Do i have to do a nandroid backup all the time or will titanium backup suffice? How often should I do a nandroid backup?

A lot of us use both...Nandroid is an all-in-one backup of everything, saves if you make changes that put you into a boot loop or really unstable ROM that won't run.

Titanium for individual apps, when you want to restore apps on top of a new ROM, etc.

I do a nandroid backup before any significant change/experiment.

I do a scheduled titanium backup of apps nightly (auto-runs on its own).

Okay I feel like a total noob, but I have searched high and low and cannot find details anywhere. How do you use the install "switch scripts"? Or, if indeed they are supposed to be downloaded from somewhere, where might that be?

If you really want to try out this rom, try installing it how I did. When I first installed it, I was having the same issues. LauncherPro wasn't showing up as default, widgets messed up, apps not showing up....etc. This was ALL due to all my apps being restored to my sdcard instead of phone when I flashed this rom. If you use the way I did it, all apps will be on your phone by default, widgets will work, and you can move whatever apps you want to sdcard. Don't give up!

Oh... That makes sense Thanks for the reply. I'm running another rom now but at least I know what the problem was incase I go bqck to bb.

Alright just wanted to report in again on how my experience is going...everything is as snappy as ever...I changed the shutdown file to shutdown.bak and no longer accidentally reboot :)

Pete thanks again! Donation is on its way shortly

EDIT: Donation sent :)

I have this release, and i see that there are optional scripts, but how do i enable them?

Open up Terminal Emulator (Download from market if you do not have it)

type su then press enter

now enter the scripts you would like to run (i.e. rmcorpcal) and press enter after entering each one

Thats it!

Anyone try any other themes with this version of the beast and have any luck? I want something like smoked glass used to be...

Oh and I also want to add...

I backed up using nandroid from previous beast version 0.1...flashed 0.2.1...and restored data and all went smoothly :) I have done this now with four different froyos all restoring data from nandroid advanced restore

The switch scripts are already there ready to be run. All you need to do is get the file of whatever you are wanting to switch and download it to your sdcard. So if you want to change your bootanimation, download the new one, place on sdcard, open up terminal emulator, type su, enter switchboot, press enter, and now your boot animation will be swapped. That is how these switch scripts work. Hopefully this helps.

I am not pushing my luck with that just yet...lol

Man I hear ya...I'm becoming addicted to improving my droid and customizing it...I feel like every week or so there is something new that makes it better...Cannot wait to continue this on my next android device come November...

Another update...i just updated launcher pro but i had to go to the market and install it...market did not recognize i already had it but i was still able to go and install and it replaced lpbeta just fine...all is good!

1. I don't know what the heck you're talking about here. I downloaded 7zip and notepad++. I didn't extract 7zip. I right click on 7zip and there is no such open archive to choose from. I have winxp. I can, open, run as, pin to start menu.....etc.
2. What is install-recovery.sh file?

Is it normally like this w/ new ROMS, i.e. a lot of things don't work or to get them to work you have to jump through a lot of hoops? I mean I'll jump through the hoops to a point, but I'm a noob and have no idea what this all meant. If it sounds like I'm being critical, well I guess I am. Some people make it sound so easy. All you have to do is downlaod rom manger, pick your ROM and you're up and running! That would be nice.

It's nice that it is faster, but nothing works and I don't understand these instructions so I'm pretty frustrated. I see Jrommy's rom isn't getting a good review either and as far as I know these are the only two froyo roms. Is the problem usually user error, or are the ROMs generally buggy?

Another question. I have bb 2.1 now and it's only at 550Mhz. Do I need to download a kernal to get it running faster and does it matter which one I select?

Dude, right click on the file containing the rom. It really cannot be any easier unless someone posted a download link containing the rom with changes already made:

2. What is install-recovery.sh file?
The file you are modifying that decides where to put your apps.

Is it normally like this w/ new ROMS, i.e. a lot of things don't work or to get them to work you have to jump through a lot of hoops? No. This is very easy, and everything works. PEBKAC.

All you have to do is downlaod rom manger, pick your ROM and you're up and running! That would be nice. That's pretty much what you have to do, with the exception of a few steps that should add approximately 5 minutes to your total time.

It's nice that it is faster, but nothing works and I don't understand these instructions so I'm pretty frustrated. Everything works. Again, PEBKAC.

I see Jrommy's rom isn't getting a good review either and as far as I know these are the only two froyo roms. Is the problem usually user error, or are the ROMs generally buggy? These 'reviews' are usually done by people like yourself who can't install or follow the instructions properly. Pete and JRummy are both consistently putting out amazing work. One more time, PEBKAC.

Another question. I have bb 2.1 now and it's only at 550Mhz. Do I need to download a kernal to get it running faster and does it matter which one I select? You need to get another overclocked kernel. If you want it at 1gHz, you need to d/l that particular kernel.

Bottom line, you are downloading a rom that is experimental. There will be some bugs.

I see what you did there ;-). I'm sorry. I'm not normally such a whining bitch, but I've been frustrated w/ this today. Last night I rooted. I screwed up w/ the update.zip part and it took me an hour and a half. I was tired, but could hardly sleep because I was excited about the possibilities. Seriously I wanted to get up and play w/ the droid. One thing lead to another that didn't happen and now I've had a couple beers, it's late and I'm doing all this late at night.

Thanks again for your help.

Don't know what PEBKAC means. And like I said, when I right clicked I didn't have the option to open as she suggested

"Problem exists between keyboard and chair" aka user error.

Did you install 7zip? You are literally right clicking on the file "FRF57.zip", then go to the 7-zip option, "open archive" should be the at the top of the list of options that pops up when you put your cursor over '7-zip'.

This is all for naught anyways. Just download the file that is already fixed and off you go!

I flashed that file and logged into google, downloaded titanium. I have the option now to run missing apps w/ data, however I have a feeling that's not exactly what I want. I click on run then it says, app+data, app only or data only.

Do I click the circle that says app only then run batch operation or do I have to manually unselect the boxes that say calendar 2.1-update1, email 2.1 update 1...etc or will my selecting app only take care of that?

Now that I'm so close I sure don't want to mess it up and I guess I'm not sure exactly which batch operation to run to restore only apps. I suspect that if I restore some data I might corrupt 2.2 w/ 2.1

restore missing apps with data>select which apps you want to restore>run batch operation.

Don't install calender, email, etc. as it should already be installed when you flashed the rom. I usually select app only. I don't think app + data will hurt anything. Just go through and only restore apps that you downloaded. All others like calender and email and stuff are system apps and you will have those on your phone already.

so basically anything that says 2.1 I don't check. For example, camera2.1-update 1, quick search box 2.1-update1, google search (enhanced)2.1, sync feeds 2.1, google talk 2.1, checkin service 2.1, system update 2.1 and on and on......

Only restore apps that you downloaded from the market or say like swype. All others are system apps and you dont need to restore them. Basically, if you don't know what it is, don't restore it.

Thanks. Will it also restore my Widgets and 5 launcher pro screens as well as my wallpaper or do I have to do something else to get that back?

Was restoring one by one but it force closed when I opened this page. Guess I shouldn't have screwed a round

It will restore all apps. You will have to set up your widgets again as well as set up LauncherPro again. (Where you can select number of screens in preferences). You are now at the most tedious part of flashing roms....setting up your homescreens. I usually keep it simple as I am constantly flashing diff roms. Your wallpapers should be accessible through the gallery if you put them on your sdcard.
