Root [ROM] Bugless Beast V1.1

Ok very confused here....just switched from droidmod to BB 1.1 and I don't see where the Wifi tethering deal is. In fact this thing darned near looks like a stock image except the SU deal is in the drawer. Where's wifi tethering on this thing?

The market

The market?!? Huh? It came with Droidmod. It doesn't come with this? And I checked the market,..must be a hundred different 'wifi' apps. Which one is the right one for wifi tethering? I'm seriously beginning to think I made a pretty good misjudgement here in leaving Droidmod....the thing is warmer to the touch than it was with Droidmod and doesn't seem to have half the items Droidmod had with it.

Found a wifi tethering app, will try it out. Also, the orientation isn't changing even though it is set to change. I did a data wipe when installing this, so no it isn't a data prob issue.

I got EasyTether from the market and it seems to work just fine. As far as DroidMod...never used it. I just love the speed and stability of Pete's ROMs.

Eh think I'm done experimenting. Had a good thing with Droidmod...goin back....this one is just plain vanilla. Not impressed....not to mention the thing won't even switch when I rotate it!

No reason to get all bent out of shape. If BB doesn't float your boat there are plenty of others to choose from.

It's funny you say that, I hadn't really paid attention to home screen rotation since I lost it on the original vzw update. Then the other day after I installed BB1.1 it started working again. :)

To all the noobs on this topic...
PLEASE research a bit about boot looping, rooting, etc. Some of the issues I am seeing here by people that just registered and say that they don't know much (and maybe shouldn't be bricking, I mean rooting ;) ) can be cured by looking through the root stickies.

Boot loops are commonly caused by too high of a kernel for the phone and/or not doing a clean wipe of data and cache before the loading of the ROM.
You have to give us more information too. When did the boot loop occur? What kernel are you flashing/installing - etc...

Those freeXXmb scripts have to be applied after every reboot, so all you need to do is reboot to wipe it out.

where can you enable JIT ?

Do yourself a favor and forget about JIT until the new 2.2 Dalvik is released. From what I've read, it is JIT enabled. If you enable JIT with any of the current ROMs, you'll be disabling it within a few days. BTDT!

If orientation is your thing, CM does 360 degree. It was cool for a minute, then it started to bug so I turned it off. Petes roms are a LOT more advanced than DM. His roms are a little vanilla, but that's the idea. You customize it your way, with a VERY fast, stable foundation.

Quick question from a new guy. I used ROM Manager Premium to go to 1.1 with nextheme and everything went swell. It rebooted and I proceeded to customize everything to my liking. I then went back into ROM Manager and chose the third option for file permissions. It downloaded it, asked me if I wanted to backup and wipe data/cache. Chose to backup, but not wipe.

It installed but when it rebooted after the install, the phone just kept rebooting on its own. The Droid name would show up, followed by the eye and it would start to launch applications and stuff and then reboot again in a couple seconds. It did this over and over and I was starting to freak out. Anyways, I had to pull the battery, put it back in and boot into Clockwork and load from update.zip. It did it's thing, rebooted, but I think it still kept rebooting on it's own before it finally stopped. Is all that rebooting normal?

EDIT: Well son of a bitch. I just hooked it up to my comp to transfer some stuff over, ejected it via system tray and then turned off usb on the phone like I normally do. This time though, once I did that it started rebooting over and over again...

All that rebooting is not normal at all. I would restore to a previous backup, then start over, only this time wipe data/cache.

I'm now trying cyano the newest stable rom and I'm not really impressed with this one, either. I've got setcpu and the sucker will not go past 600mhz,no matter what I do. Go with auto detect,nope...set it to Droid, nada. I even uninstalled and then reinstalled it to no avail. It refuses to auto detect right and will not go past 600. Using either launcher seems to take forever for the apps to appear when accessing the drawer. And the rotate feature,on the helix launcher the fonts are all screwed up,and off to the right when I bring up the drawer. Rotating is slooooow! I rotate it sideways..it sits there. I shake the stupid thing,THEN it might actually rotate. Seriously, I don't get this. I keep reading that these roms are the greatest thing since sliced bread and I'm not seeing it. I wiped data/cache on both attempts. I'm giving it the ol' college try here, haven't gone back yet but I'm just not seeing any reason whatsoever to leave Droidmod. I can get setcpu to work with that. I don't have any lag whatsoever switching when rotating. The 3d drawer sucks,IMO, in cyano. Seems reluctant to move easily. Have to swipe it a few times to get it to move. I also tried to change the font color in the notication tray using Metamorph and Scagz mod which I used successfully in Droidmod...of course it don't work with Cyanogen. I don't know what else I can do to make this sucker work the way I want....I'm about done trying here.

Anyone having random reboot issues with the Bekit 1200LV?
No idea what else it is - I removed droptheme and it was after a clean wipe.
Hmmm - Nex1.0 treated me better.

I can't get it to install.

I used these instructions on rooting my droid:
How-To Root your stock 2.1 Droid

According to it, it rooted very successfully. I was able to run wifi tether and other root applications. I installed ROM Manager, and used the ROM Manager Premium to download and install Bugless Beast V1.1 (800). When it entered clockworkmod recovery to install the bugless beach 1.1, it said this:

-- Installing: SDCARD:clockworkmod/download/androidoverdrive.com/pete/ESE81/ROM/V1.1/ESE81V11.zip
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
E:Can't open /sdcard/clockworkmod/download/androidoverdrive.com/pete/ESE81/ROM/V1.1/ESE81V11.zip (bad)
Installation aborted.
ClockworkMod Recovery v1.8.1.4

I then told it to reboot the system since it had obviously failed. Things were back to normal. I was hoping the zip was bad since it downloaded via ROM Manager Premium, and I tried downloading another version (1000 instead of 800). ROM Manager Premium automatically launched clockwork recovery and gave me the exact same error.

Since I am new to rooting I have been spending several hours on this... At one point I accidently deleted all my data and spent a while redownloading a lot of stuff. :-(

Okay, so now I downloaded the original file from this forum (the file at the very very top). It got to the part where it says 'Extracting System Files'. And then acted like the ROM was successfully loaded. When the phone was rebooted, it got stuck in a loop of the droid red eye logo. I had to remove the battery. I allowed it to try to load again but it got stuck in the same loop, so once again I removed the battery and booted up to the recovery screen by holding X while I booted up. I tried choosing the 800 zip that I loaded from this thread, and it seemed to work (it barely took any time at all). When I rebooted it it was once again stuck in the loop.

So I gave up on bugless beast and reinstalled the original .zip file from the url I mentioned earlier:
How-To Root your stock 2.1 Droid

The file I am referring to is this one:
20100429h_update.zip

But it is still stuck in the loop. So I reinstalled SF Recovery (it had been overriden with clockwork because of MOD Manager Premium) and restored my earlier backup. Now I am not sure what to do. I stlil have root access but seems like I cant install any mods.

You need to turn off the sd card notification sound. This is a known issue listed in the installation instructions if I recall.

CM comes stock with 600mhz kernel. You will need to grab something faster if you want that. I'm running P31100. Bekits run hot and thirsty on my Droid. (Stock CM is Bekit600) In Spare Parts there is an option to keep home in memory. This will eliminate issues with redraw home.
