Root ROM chat - What ROM(s) are you using?

No problem, it was still worth checking out the new update. Crazy amount of customization options there! Unfortunately, I need teh ability to update PRL and profile, as Sprints network vision is ongoing here and a refresh can do wonders for my data speeds

I'm gonna try out liquid smooth now. Just saw they updated recently as well
 
Love liquid so far.

Haven't run into any bugs. No camera quick tile, but that's an inconvenience rather than a bug
 
So I'm running Mahdi 2.5 great rom and I flashed Trinity after I flashed that I no longer had root access on Mahdi but if I flash Franco I do is that a bug in the kernel or the fact it doesn't support root

Neither. Just an unfortunate glitch that occurs sometimes. Flashing a root zip will fix that up real quick.
 
I flash the kernel over and over and it deletes root even when flashing a different kernel and I flasha root zip and it caused a bootloop which kinda confused me so I think the kernel isn't compatible with the ROM bummer really so I just switch to elemental
 
I've been running stock since I got the N5 a little over a month ago and then I finally couldn't resist and flashed Dirty Unicorns 3/22 version. It's Very stable and has a ton of useful features and setting. Pretty much everything I could ask in a ROM... It's just flat out AWESOME! I'm running ElementalX with it and a couple xposed modules as well. Battery life and performance is great!
 
Been using Cataclysm and Franco kernel like a few others, plus Xposed for a couple more tweaks, but sometimes it cancels out existing features from Cata - kinda annoying.

I would try PA again if they had the per-app settings still, and I'm not sure if PACman for the N5 is gonna be the same as it was for my N4, Sensation and DHD - slow.

Probably gonna try DU out next :D

edit: realised that I've stopped hearing about people using CM since moving to the N4. Is that just because it's become too basic, or are the other ROms (DU, PA, Cata, Carbon etc) just better?

edit2: anyone got recommendations for kernels?
 
Using multirom I run stock on one with some x-posed mods and liquid smooth on the other (I like having omniswitch and using less x-posed mods with it). Running elementalx kernel with both. I like that kernel because it has s2w and the power key toggle set in aroma so it does not have to be done after each reboot like I was having to do with Uber kernel. Also so far it has had very good battery life.

For me, CM has kind of morphed into it's own thing, CM OS rather than Android, which isn't necessarily bad. However, I like something that feels like pure Android, just with more features than stock. DU and Cataclysm give you that. Others do too, but, honestly, I'm so happy with DU I've stopped trying out other ROMs on my Nexus 5.

My preference for kernel is Franco, but again, it performed so well for me with DU, I stopped trying kernels too. :rolleyes: So take my recommendations with a dash of salt. ;)

They turned off a lot of people when they went corporate.

Also, they're now incompatible with AOSP based kernels, so that's enough to turn me off entirely ;)

I always suggest Franco kernel, but I believe a few around here use faux as well :thumbup:
 
As far as I know, Xposed works with DU and DU users use it, but the Dev's don't support it. I never have used Xposed myself as I can get pretty much what I want out of the ROM and I like keeping things simple.

I haven't tried Franco yet... Been pretty content with ElementalX so far... But plan on trying it eventually.
Xposed works fine with DU, although with all the settings and features available on DU you probably won't need xposed. I like GEL as my launcher so the only xposed module I now use is the xposed GEL setting, since for some reason Google left the setting menu out.
 
I have quite a big list of xposed modules. Still on stock with Franco r38, lux with n5 plugin. Here's my module list to make everyone aware of the great features available through xposed:

Paranoid!!!!! It works pretty good. I love it. Just minor problems that aren't really affecting me lol😸😸😸😸
 
Looking for a new daily driver. I'd like it to have the theme chooser, as well as an option for long press back to kill and battery charging led

I'm getting bored with PA. They haven't put out an update the past several weeks, and no long press to kill is really annoying with the chrome bugs I'm having. Additionally, no battery charge LED.

Flashed cm yesterday (ew - that's how desperate I am to find one :eek: ) and keep getting lag when waking the device as well as calls going straight to voicemail. Battery life seems to be pretty good though.

Liquid seems to be having issues with the new toolchain, and haven't put out a build in nearly a month.

Not sure if DU has the theme chooser - I'll have to check it out again

Do has added theme chooser. They also have back button to kill and battery led.

The new testbuild (yesterday I think) Josh said was mostly for people who use theme chooser. Not sure what he did, still on the latest stable here.
 
CM is horribly slow on the Nexus 5 to be honest. I'm using Mahdi, it's the most complete and smooth custom ROM I've tried so far. It has a theme chooser too. Couple it with ElementalX kernel, and you get one beast of a phone.

I actually gave Mahdi a flash before Brian posted and I like it. I have the DU test build downloaded on the device as well, so I'll test that out today.

I gotta go with my man Franco though for the kernel ;)
 
I see that Flyme OS (designed for Meizu devices) has been ported to the N5.
The ROM is based on CM11, but is totally different from any other AOSP based ROMs.
I guess Flyme OS has its own set of applications and functions developed by Meizu so it's quite different and the UI looks pretty cool.

I might flash it just to check it out, since it's so different. Requires a gapps package and I guess you have to reflash SuperSU through recovery again but looks interesting!
 
After trying out a few ROMs for the 4.4.4 update, I ended up staying with Purity ROM. It's one of those "mostly stock with a few extras" which is what I like - before Purity I was using Cataclysm but that wasn't being updated anymore.

I've been using Code Blue Kernel with it, and I haven't done any comparison tests but I like the battery life I'm getting.

Cataclysm was a beast. I wish the dev was still active. :(
