Would be nice if someone would put together a table comparing the various features of the most popular ROMs. Would be interesting to see how all the ROMs stack up against eachother.

It would be nice to see all the features in a able but for me (and from what I see in this forum) ROM selection is more subjective. More important then what themes are available, launchers, benchmarks, and general usability stuff (like Cyanogen's extended phone features) are how the ROM responds to your particular Droid. Right now I am running the leaked release of BB 1.0 and yes, I do miss all the features I had in previous ROMs (themes, built in tethering choices), but this one just runs smooth, fast and has been reliable for my needs. As far as features go, I can add just about any other feature the other ROMs offer if I do the research. I am afraid the having a readily available chart will just contribute to the feature wars, leading to more bloated and less reliable products (kind of like what happened to Nero for the PC - they threw in the kitchen sink and now the end product sucks compared to what they had 5 years ago).

Rom comparison is subjective. People have different opinions. The only way you can find the "best" is if you try it out for yourself and find one which best fits your needs. Like for me, my favorite ROM has been by far the Pete's BB. However, I am currently running Cyanogen for a more updated ROM, but when the official v1.0 comes out I already know I'm switching back. Some people love CM, others might worship UD, while people like me prefer BB.
My criteria for best Rom:
Stability
Speed
Battery Life
So basically, if your one of those people who want the feature packed, themed, crazy scripted ROM, you will be on the opposite boat of me. You might prefer some edited CM such as Jrummy's CM remixes (I am running this just for the time being, terrible battery life though).

My opinion.. The idea and work behind CM are awesome.. but until it is 100% ported to the Droid.. I'll pass. Too many bugs as of yet, which to me outweigh the extras.

There's nothing subjective about comparisons, and nobody in this topic mentioned anything about any ROM being "the best."
It'd just be nice to have some kind of reference to see what features the various ROMs have.

Someone once posted a table comparing the proposed 2.1 update (was still a lot of speculation at that point) and I believe it was BBeast, on here. I think it swayed more than a few to come over to the root side. I think it'd be a great idea, and would love it.
Maybe if someone compiled a list of the features, perhaps you can assign one person to each ROM and they could run down the list check "yes" or "no". And I know there's a lot more ROMs out there that aren't as well known that could use a publicity boost.
It's well known that each Droid is diff and diff ROMs respond diff on each. But at least everyone could compare and contrast and go from there.

If someone makes a spreadsheet with all the features they would like to know about in each ROM then I would go through and check off what ROM has it and what doesn't.
I wonder if we put one together in a Google docs spreadsheet if the devs of the ROMs would be interested in updating it when they add features.

Yep - wondering about devs "stealing" from each other since the doc is shared.
Actually having info in one place on the Roms would be knowing what is out there and which firmware version it is based off of and where to get them.
Date released and release number would be good.
I can then investigate the Roms myself.
But knowing the basics about each Rom and not getting into features would be a good start and also shy away from feature wars.
If the Developers would play nice, it would be in this forums best interest to be the "goto" place that a Rom has its own sub-forum off of the Android Forums > Android Phones > Motorola Droid > All Things Root (Droid) forum. then each ROM could have a sticky with its current info in it, sticky on upcoming releases and such and people could discuss them in detail.

Agreed. That is basic and important. Luckily, if you check out the developer's main forums that info is generally available, along with feature lists, change logs, and most importantly user comments. Again, if there is a spreadsheet with feature comparisons my fear remains that the focus switches to form, and not function. A prudent user will do the research on his/her own (and discover more in the process).

I hear ya, but CM 5.0.6.2 with the Smoked Glass-Esque theme is one of the best (if not THE best) ROMs I've run on my Droid yet (and I've run quite a few).
I have always used AdamZ SmokedGlass with his low volt kernel it has been the most stable and has run the coolest of all the ROMs I've tried. But I think he hasn't updated to ESE81 so I tried Fab's NexTheme and I love it. Very stable, runs fast and cool. The best part is obviously the theme. I really like this ROM so I most likely won't be going away from it. Unless somebody makes something really crazy
