I don't understand why you can't just flash alpha4 first.. never heard of having to flash alphas in some sort of sequence?! Am I losing my mind? (Don't answer that last question! ) :p

And furthermore, I don't see that in requisite0 's first post..

True, the backup works. Have you tried to restore a non cm 7.2 tho? Doesn't work. the new one is ext4. I've tried...

I was looking through the source from github and i noticed the model was set to sph-m820 (The galaxy on boost) and then i looked in the model and its the same? does anyone know why?

Sorry guys, been working on debugging data all day today since I only had a couple hours to borrow a phone with service. Good news is, I did get data and MMS working on CM7.2 (hackishly). Bad news is, it's gonna take me a little while to reverse engineer everything I did in to the source tree (copying proprietary files, writing a better install script, along with helper scripts for detecting filesystem and carrier settings from the previous ROM, and installing the proper kernel, recovery, and necessary APN settings, etc) for building the next alpha. Once I get that out there, I'm going to focus on figuring out the camera issue, and then officially deem this beta quality software. From there I'll be focusing more on the kernel side of things (overclocking, getting rid of that damned 'android' boot logo, etc)

So stay tuned, I suppose. Not going to be posting much for the next day or so, writing scripts, pulling files from the nandroid I made of the phone I had for data testing, etc. Don't take my silence as a lack of progress, I'm just going to be extremely busy.

Holy crap man nice job!

Good to hear you are making progress requisite0... I believe I am definitely going to go a test drive on your next alpha release since you gave helped with APN stuff for the ntelos carrier ..just hope it fixes mms for us as well..

I have been bored after finishing my work with everything. I am starting to have some compiling problems with my ubuntu machine. But, if you need some help, shoot me a message on skype, and i'll help ya out with the rom and kernel.

Ha I went the way of the open and now I just use groove IP and textfree. Forget paying my bill this month. Can't use my phone at work and at home I have wifi. I should port my Pinter number to Google voice thoggh so I use the same number for both.

First and foremost, I would like to send a humongous thank you to all the devs involved in this project, dating all the way back to the beginning. I followed all major threads on this project and its nice to see how much it has grown. So, again, thank all involved, especially requisite0, who in my opinion has put in way more than the past devs, and never asked for a dime.

Second, I would like to stress the point that I am well aware that the more senior members of most forums dislike when n00bs post repetitive questions without reading the whole thread or checking other sources. Like a moderator pointed out in this thread, its not required to look elsewhere, but it certainly helps. With that said, rest assured that I have been kept well informed about this whole project, and have had many questions answered as I read through as well as new questions arise.

And last, like I said, I did have some questions that came up as I went through that I felt were left out. For example, as I read through I tried to build my own walkthrough of the install process as the OP didn't have one that was idiot proof. As I went on, steps were added and subtracted until I came to a final three step process, not counting flashing the new CWM: flash A2, flash A4, then GApps, with rebooting after each step. When I got to the end, it dawned on me that only two or three times did someone mention that the Admire is also available on the NTelos network, which I have, and those that did mention it never said whether it was working any better or worse than the MetroPOS version (typo was intentional, lol).

In short, I have two major issues. 1) If someone would be patient enough, a detailed walkthrough of the Alpha rom (up to this point) process would be amazing as I would love to see the progress, too. I know there are bugs and stuff, but I am pretty tech savvy so I can follow instructions as long as they are accurate. And 2) Basically I just wanted to know if it really made much of a difference between Metro and NTelos versions of the phone. I know progress is happening, and I am patient enough to wait, but I love CM and can't wait for it to come out, and I want to make sure I can get my fix as well :D

Like I said, thanks to all involved, keep up the good work. I can't wait to see if requisite0 can get ICS on here, as well, in either CM9 format or stock ICS. I have ICS on my Evo and have been long awaiting CM9

PS: requisite0 - Do you have a Twitter that I can follow? If you have no relevant updates on there, then don't worry, I just like to follow Android devs to see whats up these days :)

Yeah, I haven't much put thought into any sort of documentation and the like because I'm viewing all of this as just alpha software. I'm just playing with toys essentially at this point, to learn more about Android and the CM build system, get myself acquainted with the source, etc. I'm about at a point where I feel like I can put together something that could coherently be called a beta soon, and it'll actually be worth putting in the effort to outline things. I just haven't viewed everything as stable enough to be worth the effort yet. You also gotta remember I'm consuming a lot of beer and herb while I do this, so expecting me to have the attention span for tweeting isn't going to do either of us any favors. I've tried to work a little more transparently via Github (probably the closest thing to tweeting you'll see me get), but I've made so many changes to CM7 inside and outside of the device profile trying to figure out the data issue over the past few days that I honestly didn't keep up with it, and everything is starting to get messy again, so I'm taking time out to clean up (and resync, and apply a few pending Gerrits, er, coderspeak...) my build system and do things 'the right way' now that I'm more familiar with all of this.

tl;dr: Last alpha coming soon, once data is confirmed working, next update will be with camera fixed, and I'll finally consider this beta, and attempt to make it more user friendly.

Excellent news, I look forward to the finished product. At this point I would rather wait on it to be more stable than to toy with an experimental mod. Usually I don't mind experiments but this phone only has one major dev (you) and not much to fall back on.

Is it safe to assume that since the MetroPCS and NTelos networks are both CDMA that the software will work the same or do you think there might be service errors in the coding?

I'm taking into account multiple carriers, and part of the new installation script I'm writing will backup and restore APN settings during install.

Since I'm not paying my bill this month, I have been running this for a bit now. It has been working great! Good job man. I don't even see a need for overclocking since my phone hasn't lagged on anything yet.

My roommate has an Admire that I keep up to date for him. He has been running Admired Beast for a few months now, and I am looking to update it as he has been noticing some lag and random reboots after a few months of heavy use. Would this ROM be good enough as a daily driver? Also, he has no service on his phone, but rather uses WiFi to send/receive calls and texts via Google Voice and GrooveIP...so data and mms is not an issue, as I see it is in most other CM7 ROMs. Would you recommend this ROM or another one, and if so, which?

I, personally, have not flashed this rom yet as it is still an experimental alpha. However, I believe enough is working that you could use it as a daily, but there might be bugs. I'm going to wait until its a little more stable.

I use Alpha4 daily with Google Voice and GrooVe IP. Only things not working are data/mms and camera.

ahhh...well that answered my question then. its not quite ready for daily use for him then. he doesnt need data or mms, just wifi with GV and GrooveIP, but he does use his camera often! so if the camera is not working then i guess i will just update him to monster v4.

I use it daily, it is working very well. True with the camera though, I use mine alot too but I have been able to deal with it. This has worked better than the beast and the monster for me. Neither one of those had any improvement I noticed and I had alot of issues. But alot of people like them. I'd go with the newest monster version, mY second favorite
