I was working on finding the recovery partition by dd'ing all the partitions in /dev when my cat knocked my phone off the desk mid-dd spilling the battery out. I rebooted and now I have no service.

When you're logged in as root you have to be careful with "cat", which can wreak just as much havoc as "rm" or "mv" if you're not paying attention! :D

Honestly, though -- sorry to hear that. Though I'm enjoying my current ROM, I was hoping to see what OpenVitality was all about.

Wasnt cat, was using dd. was in the process of dumping some of the bml partitions when the phone took a dive. >< Must have corrupted something in the cellular programming

I'll have to go to a retailer tomorrow. If they cant reflash it, then I'll probably get a refund and repurchase the phone.

It was a joke. You said your cat messed things up, remember? I was playing on the two meanings (feline and unix command).

O.o so much code and information I'm just lost lol I need to learn this stuff asap

Would having the stock ROM provide you with the source code for stock GPS? I know you've been looking for either a Vitality stock ROM or a Vitality stock Nandroid backup; I don't have either of those but someone who says they work at Cricket (member name Momojams) seems to be willing to provide them:

I'm learning how to make an image of a stock ROM so that I can direct Momojams on how to get us one. I haven't been successful making one with my device, however. (Details are documented on the thread I've linked to.)

Unfortunately not, the only reason i asked for this was for the benefit of users who wished to sell their phones, return it for repair, or to test for flash/ rooting errors. In my case I wanted to see if this solved my GPS issue. The code is certainly in there but I have no idea where it is located, it would at the very least, if it is at all possible, require decompiling.

This is the code that im looking for but this is for another model with a similar problem.

A stock rom (corrected nandroid backup) (rooted with some bloatware) removed is located here.

By applying this it solved other GPS related issues and sensor issues experienced with my original rom. Unfortunately I didnt test to see if these problems existed when I pulled it out of the box.

Returning it to factory including recovery would be better though so i will be eagar to try the factory restore images and recovery once its ready.

I have tried to get a few users to test GPS under certain conditions to determine if its firmware/ root related or hardware but i havent had much response, I dont exactly have a box of rooted/ unrooted vitalities lying around o)

Opensource code for this and other samsung models can be found here.
Samsung Open Source Release Center

Samsung use the GPSD Daemon - I would hope they dont try and port this.

Remember, that's a Nandroid backup, not the stock ROM. To my knowledge, nobody has made the stock ROM for the Vitality available yet -- unless the one Shabbypenguin linked to in the OpenVitality thread yesterday is one:

It seems you have to register for the forum digitalspecialists.net and then jump through a few more hoops before you'll be able to access the Cricket.7z file there. Once you get the file, download the Odin3_v1.87.zip file they're also listing and use it to install the Cricket file to restore your phone.

I can't verify this works since I haven't used it yet, but Shabbypenguin states that we can use it to restore our Vitality phones.

Back in business. I swapped it out for a new phone today at corporate.
Now to find a way to pull the stock recovery partition before I install cwm. ;)

Soooo ummmm... I know everyone's posting for an update, but I'm just wanting to know, or get an Update Status. Admire fans are pretty paranoid in getting work promised and in the end just bailing last min ..(not regarding you Req, kinda like Unforgiven...) any who....

Just wondering how he's doing with this? Or if there's anyone that's willing to pick up where he left off? Preciate if anyone knows anything and decides to share.. God bless and have an awesome day!

Man this rom needs hella work. Even though they found a fix for mms it still had lots of problems. Had this for over 2 weeks and sadly i will be returning to monster. This are the issues i had. 1)Camera doesnt work, obiously 2) video kept freezing consistenly 3) u cant watch youtube on hd 4) every so awhile that passed and tried to make a call it would restart for no reason, major issue. 5) many apps wont work and cant listen to live games or watch video plays. 6) and finally the roaming indicator, that really didnt bother me unlike the above i just mentioned Yea i know theres fast burst and nemus but fast burst but it takes it so fast that it comes out blurry and nemus isnt really a regular camera but thats wat i was using. To me its 90% finished

Ive been using this rom for about a month now and I love it. It needs a bit of work but its very usable, and the gps works for me.

any word on data issue. signal strength -96 dBm 0 asu / for data to be 100% we need to have -96 dBm 96 asu......i wish i knew how to fix it, but i dont..please any developers help us pleeeeeeeeeeeeease..
