Root [ROM] CyanogenMod 7 Huawei M835

Damn, and I was really looking forward to this too lol. Status7 had me trying to find my own workaround for about an hour -_-

Anyway looking forward to the repackage, love your work pg :)

EDIT: Will you specify when the rom has been repackaged? The only internet I have is tethered at metro's 1x so I don't want to take forever to download the same one and have it not work :P

As with me, I tried to edit the build.prop in the package and that didn't work...

EDIT: I found a solution, this is from a post from the Ideos Dev Team Blog:

1. Open the zip file and go to /META-INF/com/google/android/updater-script
2. Delete the "assert" line
3. Save it and save the Zip file
4. Install in CWM like you normally would :)

EDIT 2: Just tried it, WiFi STILL doesn't work, on the Settings screen, it gives me a "Wi-Fi = Error" Message

k I will try to address both issues today, and yes I will post up a update when its ready ;)

what the smurf?
stuck on i guess splash screen with those 3bluish dudes-or are they bombs?

(could it be that my phone's jacked up somuch that it dont take m835 roms?.)

While I was working with the updater script file I installed CyanogenMod6 Huawei Ascend on the M835. It worked perfectly on M835 except the screen size of coarse.

I like the boot animation better on CyanogenMod6 and am wondering if it will work on CyanogenMod7 if I swap them out.

PLayfullGod do you use winzip to recompile your Mods after your finished working with them?

Any bootanimation will work long as you adjust the res to 320x480.

And I dont use winzip at all, not that it recompiles anything anyhow lol. I build from source and compile. When needed, or b4 I got dta2sd integrated into the src, I repackage with HTC kitchen.

Well I guess that shows how much I know about Cooking in the Kitchen!:o

Ok so I installed the 09132011 build. My WiFi still does not work. Clockwork wiped the cache and formated it but in the about phone it still says build number GRJ90-09122011. is that an oversight? I'll try re installing again.

Thanks PlayfulGod

nah the date is correct, all I did was add the wifi module from the stock rom and repackage it.

I am gonna try to compile a .32 kernel for the M835, since that is what the wifi module is looking for and not finding since the ascend still uses a .29 kernel. I may just use the M835's stock kernel, but you all will loose overclocking then ;)

If this issue isnt resolved by Friday I am having a M835 loaned to me ;)

Awesome, works perfectly (except for the WiFi thing of course).
I'm trying to remember which file from the CWM backup you're supposed to restore for contacts and such...it would be data.img right?

When recovering the data.img file, I got all of my apps and text messages...settings, just about everything...except the worst thing to do manually, the contacts.

I've read about certain data recoveries just not working cross-roms, is anyone else having issues with this particular one?

I always have my contacts sync n backed up with my google account. That way I have access to them regardless of which android device I am on. ;)

Wow PG you are the best, I know you from your great on CM7 on the Optimus forum, so imagine my surprise when I find that you are also working on an M835 ROM. I also have this phone as a backup, I will install it later to see if all is working, thanks.

working on the ascend 2 too ;)

A quick guide for those who love this rom as much as I do :)

Contacts: If you're like me and don't have your contacts synced, or don't want to wait for them to resync since there's no wifi yet, it's a simple fix.

1: Before flashing, go to import/export contacts in the settings menu in the
contacts app.
2: Choose export to sd card, it should create a .vcf file. Keep this file safe.
3: After flashing, use the same process except choose import from sd card,
and choose the vcf file. You're done!

Also, you can go to gmail and import that .vcf from the contacts tab.

Keyboard: The Android keyboard is extremely large on this rom, blocking even the input box, blocking your view of what you wrote! You can download swype from the website, but it just force closes.

1: Download Blackmarket Alpha online and install the .apk on your
phone. What this app does is make every app on the market, even
the paid ones, completely free!
2: Download the paid version of SlideIt. It's basically swype, but it
comes in a trial form and the paid one (which you just installed!)
3: Make SlideIt your default keyboard as any other keyboard app.

PG: I tried taking swypes .apk file that came with the M835 originally, but it won't install. Whenever the new build (maybe?) comes out with the wifi fix (crosses fingers), is there any way to fix the size of the keyboard and/or have it come preloaded with the orignal swype app from the stock rom?

Does this build have multi-touch enabled? My stock M835 wont allow multi-touch. Is that just blocked or is it impossible on the huawei?

Dont know if the M835 is capable of multitouch, if it is, will need the kernel src for the m835 so it can be recompiled. My guess is MT just wont work on the M835 tho.

boot times get faster after the first couple boots but for some reason we are having trouble with the wifi on 7.2 because my dirtyport of cm7.1 everything works wifi/data etc but pg is doin his job just busy

Hi to all, new guy here, wanted to thank PlayfulGod for the awesome work on the CM7 build for the Huawei M835. So far I've been happy with it and haven't even tried the WiFi yet, but I'm not too concerned with that right now so I won't ask like other already have, when it's going to be fixed.

I do have a question though, maybe it's silly or maybe it's strange, idk I'm just new to the world of Android and my M835 is my first try in this scene. I hope I'm posting in the right thread. Here goes, I was wondering, what would be the best way for me to have CM7 while also having like 2 or 3 MetroApps that are key for me(Ex. Metro Navigator, Metrobackup, Metro Appstore). Any pointers or help, I would greatly appreciate.

Edit: If a mod cares to delete my post, ...

Why? Its a good question, so ill edit in an anwser and save space...

If you want metro apps, root your phone via gingerbreak and download a good root explorer ( I use a paid app called "root explorer")

Go to /cust/us/app/ and copy any apparently you want to SD.
After flash use a root explorer (or on cm7 the file manager) and move the. Apks to /system/app.
Run "fix permissions " in either cwm or rommanager.
Done.

this is a metro phone, so flashing metroff will prolly fix the data/mms issue ;)

boot times is mainly determined by the hardware and is ability to load everything, so I dont think I can make it any faster lol

Data fix was easy. Just reboot into cwm recovery, go to backup n restore, advanced restore, and restore data. All contacts, accounts, and APN settings restored. I can access the market again, yay, lol. Just lettin you know. Im workin on the wifi, let you know if I find any workaround for that too. Thanks guys

I'm also going to work on the Wi-Fi myself, I just installed a Linux OS and I'm attempting a method to see if I can get Wi-Fi to work
